A spokon with Shimabukuro's love for exaggeration can get weird really fast. I already imagine sentient balls, devil referees, light speed shots and training arcs with mountains attached to the players back.

I mean something more realistic. Exaggerated faces & comedy is inevitable for any series from Shimabu. It's his specialty lol

Maybe Shimabu could do something similar to Blue Lock on magazine, now that’s a spokon with exaggeration that makes it work lol

One author that would surprise me could be Iwashiro, tho I guess he’s in a middle ground given Psyren was a moderate success in between two other axed series, so maybe he Could had an extra shot?

The moment I read "MHA template" I rush to the read the chapter (I forgot today drops a new chapter).

Kinda the last few pages indeed reminded me of UA ceremony entrance arc. Well, I know where this is going...lol.

Ugh... I wish there were more chapters, cause I really wanna see where everything’s going. The exam element does feel very HeroAca (which I like), but I’m more curious to see where this all goes from here. Especially concerning Shinomiya. I like to think the author knows what he/she is doing.

At this point, I’m really gonna pause here and wait for more chapters before I get too attached. Besides, I wanna take the week to read the newer manga in Jump’s lineup.

The problem is that these examination introduction arcs are always the exact same. The hero flunks the first part but then he aces some sort of practical test. Looking at the last page makes it obvious what it's going to happen because the same thing always happens.

I haven't read the series yet but MHA is not the first series to have an entrance exam/test thing.
So, it isn't really a MHA template.
The MHA template is the context of the main character and his situation.

As rocomotion says, the series sets a literal exact same situation that we saw in MHA's Chapter 3 in the manga. Whether the same events happen or not, that's up to the author, but the whole scenario is a carboncopy: a selection in which the MC gets poor results, and now a test in which they have to fight against huge bad kaijuus and defeat them, like the physical exam Deku had in the UA entrance exam against those giant robots, while hinting the MC will have to use his powers to save the earlier presented girl. Anyway, we'll see what happens. Hoping this doesn't happen, would be kinda disappointing.

I'm putting more weight on how these elements are executed, tbh. Yeah, the series has an entrance exam. So did HeroAca and Demon Slayer. I’m more looking forward to how 8Kaiju differentiates itself. But what Raf said is true, the similarity is really uncanny.

Dunno about fastest, but the Death Note one-shot was released in Jump #36/2003 on August 8th 2003, and then the Death Note series started in Jump #1/2004 on December 1st 2003. That seems pretty fast to me.

Honestly, what did people expect from Kaiju no.8? A completely original series without any tropes? And complaining about that now doesn't really make sense, since the manga wasn't even original in the first place. The premise isn't new when you think about it.
loser protagonist gets superpowers and pursues his dream once again
The story is just well executed and so was chapter 3 imo, so I don't really see a problem with the upcoming "template". Nowadays it's all about execution, since it's hard to come up with all new ideas with so many stories out there. And I think Kaiju does a good job so far.

Speaking of Jump+, the manga currently at #1 is a new series called Gaming Ojou-sama, which looks like a really over the top e-sports manga.

Jump+ is getting all the genres people here keep ask for.

I think a lot of the discussion Gaming Girl has been getting also revolves around the fact that it's using actual video game characters and moves in the battles. Half the comments revolve around people asking if the author got Capcom's permission lol

Shit, now I wanna read this now. Using Hi Score Girl and Destroy All Humankind as references, I find that I enjoy manga that make accurate use of video games and their history.

Jump+ will slowly overtake Jump, with Anya leading the revolution. xD In all honesty, though, I feel like Jump is still a bit strict. it's good that they're expanding, but still.

Yeah, I got HeroAca vibes from the first chapter Also the main character turning into a Kaiju mysteriously fely very Attack on Titan to me. I feel as if not a lot of manga authors do tropes well, and if enough popular manga don't execute a trope properly, people will begin to hate the trope itself. Like how everyone always hates love triangles and people suddenly moving away in romance manga.

Clones/spiritual clones while they sound cool on the surface just wouldn't work.

Still...I forever wish for a Shonen Jump take on KEIJIO!!!!!!

still dont know why this kodansha series is still here, but anyway.

FLOWERS LIVES!!!!! GIMME.

Guess I'll finally get and read Shaman King.

Takei art from Karakuridoji Ultimo was always incredible and I loved that manga so very much that I've always wanted to see their other work

It actually bothers me a bit that they're treating Flowers as a sequel but Super Star as a spinoff when Flowers already ended years ago and Super Star is the current sequel of Flowers and the original, they will also publish the two almost together, which makes even more confusing for who don't know these details

About the poll:

Jump Plus is kind of weird since on one hand it has quite a lot of series on there, a few of which are popular in Western circles outside of here. So it should wwarrant it's own thread. On the other hand, we don't really talk about the lesser known Jump+ series much on this site, if at all, and it would be nice to have something to chew on during off weeks like this one. The only reason Kaiju #8 was on our radar was because it made rather big waves in Japan

I kind of want to split the difference. Maybe we can lightly discuss Jump+ series here and then any spoilerish or in-depth discussion should go on the forum. Or we can select certain Jump+ series to discuss here (perhaps everything that's on MangaPlus) while the rest must be discussed in the Jump Plus thread. Then again, nobody here really talks about the lesser known Jump+ stuff.
