Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Spreading anime relies on the presence of an anime, SxF has none, and news relies on people spreading news about series they read, SxF is still niche and has few if any readers even among the more mainstream casual people carrying weight and clout. Even a search on youtube brings up 0 prominent youtubers generating any Spy x Family exclusive video with any meaningful number of views, Even prominent sites like ANN and other ani-manga news sites has few if any articles on SxF, and the one non manga/anime site it got mentioned on has little if any reception or noteworthiness, look how little reception the tweet even received. It is hard to see how Spy x Family is popular outside of hardcore jump circles when it has little to no presence thus far in time.

And for places to read SxF, again mangaplus is a new and niche site (low page views), many people still dont know about it or read manga there (why are most screenshots from people on twitter, still non official versions of mainstream mangas, or rehosted ones from manga aggregate sites, and not the mangaplus one?).

New people getting into manga and anime, wouldn't come anywhere close to SxF as theres no one speaking of this manga to bring it up to them, no one is adding it to listing articles (example "So you liked [insert anime] on Netflix, here's 10 other Japanese series you should check out").

I don't think it is logical to assume SxF is more than a middling niche series outside of jpn at this point in time as the data available really suggests otherwise and could be argued to be less popular than AssClass was in 2012.
1. That polygon tweet is a poor example for your argument especially when scrolling down their feed, you can see that their average number of likes for tweets are usually less than 100. Very few of their tweets have over 500 or 1k. So the 160 likes for SxF might well be the average number of likes for a share from that website which isn't bad at all.

2. You said doing a basic youtube search brings up 0 prominent youtubers generating any SxF with any meaningful number of views. A basic search shows a bunch of verified Youtube accounts talking about the series. One literally posted a video 3 days ago.
Views matter? Sure. But I'm not debating that SxF is the most popular title out there. I'm debating that it has a far wider reach right now as opposed to AC from 2013 thereby giving it a higher probability of being read by more number of people.

3. Mangaplus is new. Sure. But it was proven that taking down of multiple big scan websites like MS brought in a huge amount of readers into M+. Those are all potential readers for SxF. Also, while positions and views on M+ doesn't mean a thing, it's not like SxF is 30th in the list. It's clearly one of the most read series there.
Also, a good number of people still use unofficial sources because its convenient and what they are used to especially because a lot of these places have tiny communities built up around those comment sections.

4. This one is an extension to point number 2 above. No one's adding it to listing? All you need to do is youtube Spy x Family and you'll see at least 2 videos on the first page where they talk about top manga that are yet to be animated or most wanted anime in 2020 etc etc. One video with 4k likes, another with 13k likes. All it takes it one website click and 12 words at most to search.

5. SxF is a niche series. So was AC. But you've provided zero evidence.
Plus, I'm not saying SxF is the most popular manga out there right now. AC was also not super popular outside Japan either. I'm merely saying that right now, the exposure SxF gets is significantly more than AC simply going by the fact that there are just way more services and options to consume manga with manga/anime being more mainstream now than in 2013. Going by that alone, it has a higher probability to be more popular than AC.

Really hyped for this one. I already quite liked Parasol Alliance and the concept very much appeals to me. Also, this guy's art is great.

"Spending time together, living together, almost as if they were siblings."
Lol, Fujimoto truly lives off our tears and despair. XD

As for the TOC, happy to see Mashle and UU in Top5, have a feeling that BoneC and TPG will be often last place in the coming weeks which is a nice break for AB. Starting to believe Mitama can do the impossible and dodge the axe again. And again. And again. And in 50 years it will be the last series running in Jump in all pages before aliens invade our planet and eat our brains and livers.

Shame about no Baba in the girls together, Chris is cute, but Baba is babalicious. ^^

Out of all the Duos in Jump, is there any duo who were friends before making a Jump manga together? Usually I hear that the editors at Jump pair the artist and writer together. But I can’t think of a story where the writer and artist approached Jump together.

Thank my God, for the end of Kimetsu and TPN, so Yabuki did not sensualize Nezuko and Emma.
Agreed.

Oddly the Valentines one earlier this year was tame.

It's hard to gauge a manga's popularity outside of Japan.
It obviously doesn't mean much, but I tried to compare the tweets announcing new popular manga being published in France.

Jujutsu Kaisen (Ki-oon / currently 39.3k followers), June 28 2019 - 141 RTs / 235 Likes
Demon Slayer New Edition (Panini / currently 16.3k followers), July 24 2019 - 291 RTs / 414 Likes
Act-Age (Ki-oon / currently 39.3k followers), October 11 2019 - 379 RTs / 663 Likes
The Quintessential Quintuplets (Pika / currently 65.9k followers), October 16 2019 - 505 RTs / 816 Likes
Chainsaw Man (Kazé / currently 93.9k followers), December 2 2019 - 296 RTs / 751 Likes
Spy x Family (Kurokawa / currently 50.5k followers), June 10 2020 - 584 RTs / 1,150 Likes

More RTs/Likes don't lead to better sales though : right now, in terms of sales, I'd say DS > JJK > Chainsaw Man > TQQ > Act-Age
Does make one wonder what happened there, fans had some campaigning for SxF or French word of mouth really spreading the SxF love? (is it being simulpublished online there, i guess france has no option on mangaplus or vizjump???)

JJK must have really generated tons of positivity upon releases considering it started from the botoom, but is a great seller there?

Those characters are hardly sexualized. They are just in bikini.

Yabuki could do much much much much much worse with every one of those characters. lol

For JJK, it probably all comes down to marketing. Ki-oon pushed it a lot as "the next big thing" and wanted a MHA level of success out of it (they are the publisher of MHA, and managed to grow thanks to getting that title, they are an otherwise extremely young publishing company).

Both Chainsaw Man and SxF had tweets teasing the announcement beforehand. I don't know if it influences their number of likes one way or another, but it's something to remember.

Anything Shonen Jump is big by default as it usually gets picked up by what is by far the most popular French scan team. That is the case for JJK, CM AA and Demon Slayer I believe. They did not pick up SxF however and it was done by a small team that was way behind and that dropped it when it was announced for a release. Thus, only 11 chapters have been translated into French. There is no mangaplus-like for France only a handful of manga have simulpub (AoT is the main one, Samurai 8 too used to)
I really think there is a great word of mouth for SxF thanks to Youtubers and the English community.
Obviously, we'll have to see if it translates into sales, but I'm hopeful.

1. The point I was making with that polygon was that the series is barely mentioned on most sites and when it is it just has poor reception.. Compare the SxF polygon tweet to their most recent manga tweet on beastars [manga only], over 350+ impressions in far less time: 1

2. Oh my mistake for being unclear, I was sure I mentioned "Spy x Family exclusive video" in my post [Even a search on youtube brings up 0 prominent youtubers generating any Spy x Family exclusive video with any meaningful number of views] sorry for being unclear, there. I will say I didn't notice the chibireviews one as that was from 10 months ago and I only looked for any recent videos. Thank you for putting it on my radar. Another from a few days ago from someone else, is under 50-100K views so I missed it as its just 12K views and no one would say a 2hour live reading of someone holding a the volume reading it is indicative of popularity, but I digress, I will say, based on my original wrong I was wrong here. Sorry for that.

3. Agreed. Great points. Advertising/pushing SxF there and other places could get more people reading.

5. Well agreed, but I'm not expecting it to see popularity until its anime comes, v1 has already released, and its generated little interest. Perhaps France will be the land that leads its rise to popularity in the West as America and Canada overlook it until an anime happens.

Ohhh a basket one shot with a girl and boy as main characters, that's a different take on Jump, the author has a good art and Sensei Sukidesu was interesting, Jump could give it a shot, also when was the last time a author from Shonen Magazine author changed to Shonen Jump?

coulda made their thighs E X T R A T H I C C
Disappointed in the waste with Fuuko, all that ammo and Yabuki made her look childish like Chika from World Trigger

I literally was thinking where was fuuko and why chika was back in jump
Maybe next time, if Ayakashi Triangle and Undead Unluck survive. Then she may have more prominence and Yabuki can get more room. xD

Not trying to read too much into it but i find interesting that Aino for example is quite proeminent in the poster while Shoko and Lemon are far behind and smaller despite being from series much better received.

This next group cover will be a interesting one, with 12 newbies you have to expect series like Yozakura, Undead and Mashle being more proeminent instead of just mixed with everything else, would be nice to see editors being more clear about the current status of the newbies

Being a newb and all I started reading all this thread from the beginning, and I arrived to the part where there was a big discussion about the fact that the lead CP for the first chapter of UxU was portraying the main character groping the busty heroine. Many dropped after the first chapter because of the lewd and presumably sexist humour. So i was wondering what do you think about that 25 chapters later, given that the author has proven that the story he wants to tell doesn't stop at that and it also gained a safe spot in the ToC and a good following even on this thread.

Well, Aino is the only part I enjoy of Ghostwriter. I even feel pretty sad for her in the last chapter (which only increases my dislike for the MC).

I'm not surprised Lemon is relegated regardless Mashle's popularity.
