Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Yeah, Abara in pop style.
As a die hard Nihei fan who has Blame as the greatest manga of all time, it delights me to have one of my favourite new and upcoming mangaka referencing Nihei works. That said, I am not really fond of Abara tho. It is Nihei art at his best, but the plot is fucking incomprehensible even comparing to his other works.
Now, I definitely see Abara influence, especially during the fight scene. CSM also does have the playfulness and "kino" of FLCL as well (the OG one, not whatever the fuck Adult Swim made).
Great, now we can use "bastard child of FLCL and Abara" to describe CSM.

wasn't JJK at 2.5 mil with 7 volumes plus vol 0. CSM might have a bigger presence than JJK for now LOL

and Novel too. I can’t believe CSM is technically bigger than JJK at the time. Not even in my wildest dream. lol

Did you remember JJK also has a Novel?

JJK was done 2.5m in circulation as a whole series at volume 7.

CSM is the type of series that has potential to grow super fast if word gets around.
With no anime announced as of yet, CSM will probably have a higher pre-anime peak than JK.
If it doesn't end by then, that is.

I mean, it's already frequently trending on Twitter. Word of mouth is helping it, and there are lots of passioniate fans. It could definitely use a major push, though.

I could see someone like Sion Sono taking a crack at a film adaptation. Style and content seen really suited to his current sensibilities. He's just as nuts as Fujimoto and isn't a stranger to adapting manga.

The question is whether chainsaw man will last?
After all there is a possibility he is in the final arc of the series.

Watch it become the 4th best-selling running series in Jump after One Piece, My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen. It's wild that it could possibly sell more than Black Clover and Dr. Stone this month already.

Did you remember JJK also has a Novel?

JJK was done 2.5m in circulation as a whole series at volume 7.
A reminder that it was by volume 7, but Jujutsu Kaisen had volume 0 so this accounted for 8 volumes. Chainsaw Man is ahead of Jujutsu Kaisen in growth.

To be honest, I can see it hitting 200,000 second week with upcoming volumes, earlier than Jujutsu Kaisen did. Maybe at volume 9 or 10.

Seems very likely that Ao no Hako will definitely get serialized with the reception it’s getting
It is nice one short with very good art but there is very little sport in it

I definitely hope someone picks up the one-shot first. Even though I just skimmed it, I could tell this could be quite a gem. I just need the translation to pass full judgment

Cuz it probably would be mainly romance series (probably harem) and sport would be plot device to push romance.

I agree. I don't think I've ever seen a one-shot get as much praise. The twitter comments are pretty much flooded with people praising it. There are quite a few comments saying that they never comment on any manga before, but felt like they had to tell the mangaka how much they enjoyed the one-shot. There were comments saying how much they were reminded of their own youth. Then there were a few comments stating how they didn't buy a physical copy of Jump in years and decided to buy one because of that one shot, or how they read Jump for the first time in a long while because of the one-shot. I couldn't find a single comment criticizing it, though I didn't look through all of them.

Does anyone here know of any one-shots in Jump that had a similar reception?

Question for everyone.

In terms of character designs, which WSJ mangaka is your favorite?

Out of the ones currently running? If so, then call me biased, but I pick Horikoshi. Dude can make immediately appealing character designs like it's a goddamn factory, IMO. It's quite telling how most of HeroAca's characters have some significant fanbase.

I'm hoping for this too. Having skimmed it, I'd like someone to translate it. I'll make a MangaDex page for it. IMO it'd be great if it somewhat followed the route of Baby Steps.
