Honestly I'm not sure how hard the choice is. For the most part the series I've read at least from Jump+ seem written for the platform rather than "oh well I couldn't make it in WSJ might as well dump it here". You have stuff like Spy or Astra that are biweekly and their length varying per chapter.

Using Astra again or something like Hina Change you get stories meant to be short (I think 5 and 4 volumes respectively) that Jump doesn't really run.

Stuff like eldlive in full colour, Vertical World in vertical format, dricam in both, etc. Even Kaiju playing with colour to emphasize certain moments. Jigokuraku is the only Jump+ series I can think of that I could see having been published as is in WSJ (and even that I'd say it was too mature until CSM came out so standards may have changed in that period between them starting)

Although, I do see why it would be a good thing if Blue Box gets serialized in the latter. Jump+ has been on a successful streak lately, having two potential flagship series all in the span of a year and a half (roughly), with a third potentially on the way next year. If that happens, Jump+ will finally be able to establish itself as a big name platform for mangakas to be attracted to, and hopefully carry the same prestige the main magazine does.

On the other side of the coin, those very same flagship series may not necessarily reach the same heights they could have in the main magazine. But that remains to be seen in the next two or three years when these series (hopefully) get their animes. By then, we’ll have a much better idea of Jump+’s future.

It's funny you mention Astra since we know it was actually intended for WSJ but got rejected, so went in Jump+ instead. Shinohara mentioned he changed the series to fit Jump+ better though, the WSJ version would've had a lot more characters and a lot more planets too.

I think it is possible more of the series I listed were in a similar situation (which is why I said "Jigokuraku is the only Jump+ series I can think of that I could see having been published as is in WSJ" although my point was more I don't think they take a series rejected from WSJ and just plop it on Jump+. I think in cases like that they do alter to better fit the platform (or just submit to Jump+ in the first place anyway)

Mangaplus has IDs for chapters in the URL. Usually they put up the IDs for the next 3-4 issues of Weekly Shounen Jump at a time. For example this week, the One Piece chapter has the ID 7479 at the end of the URL. The next 3 IDs 7480-7482 will be filled with the next three chapters of One Piece. The ID 7483 is the current chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen.

However if a manga has less than 4 IDs, it means it will be absent in at least one of the next 4 issues. So it will either go on break or it will end in less than 4 chapters. Since new manga pretty much never go on break, it's usually always cancellation.

Here's the Mangaplus IDs for the next month:

As you can see, every single manga has enough ID spots for 4 chapters in total (this weeks chapters included), except for Mitama Security and Bone Collection. So this means, Mitama Security only has one chapter left next week and Bone Collection has two chapters left after the one that released today.


Usually it's pretty easy to tell whether a series will get cancelled or be on break. For example when an established series is missing an ID, it's usually because of a break, unless the manga is known to be in its final arc. If it's a new series that isn't doing well, it's pretty much always an axe.


This has so far been very consistent and users on the Mangahelpers forums have been using this trick since at least last year to find out earlier whether a series will end or not. Afaik, it has been 100% accurate so far. I didn't really find out about them until Guardian of the Witch ended. But it ended exactly in the issue where the last ID was filled. I also looked up an old post from last year where The Last Saiyuki ended in the exact issue where its last ID was filled.

Maybe it's not so related, but when was the last time a Jump manga is canceled with 23 chapters? I remember that Double Arts was canceled with the same amount. Yes, Double arts.

The only time it hasn't completely lined up (as far as I can remember) is TPN got an extra ID (or maybe a couple extra). Never seen a series get less than the rest and not go on break/end.

I don't think November is possible. Only way that can happen is if volume averages are around 800k. Realistically, it'll pass BC in a year's time.

Well, in two months Jujutsu Kaisen went from 4.5 million to 6.5 million and it still has another volume to release this year. Black Clover should add just another million with it's next volume so we can assume Jujutsu Kaisen should surpass Black Clover's circulation numbers in 5 months or less if we assume the anime gives it a good boost.

Thank you for your work! If I’m going to be completely honest, I was mainly still hoping it would be a forum secret because I fear if word gets out then Shueisha will take notice and change things up so that we won’t have this information anymore.

I always found the info on the IDs to be some seriously cool stuff since it takes some work and knowledge to do but if you know how to do it, you’re rewarded with a glimpse at the near future of Jump newbies.

Yep, 10 million in 4-6 months seems likely if the boost is strong from the anime.

My original estimation was not including any anime boost.

Its hard to not see Jujutsu getting a sizable boost from the anime, but even then November seems a bit fast to surpass BC in circulation, either way it's an inevitability at this point.

Thanks for your work btw. I'm always looking forward to the new Manga Plus IDs now, because I find the concept interesting and it's pretty cool to be one of the first to know that a series will probably end soon.

Yeah, I tried to explain it in a similar way to Raf, so people would understand the concept. Though as mentioned above, I won't talk about it on reddit again, so word doesn't spread and Shueisha notices.

But thanks for calling me competent I guess. I remember that we used to have a huge argument over 2 years ago, when I was still new here, where I had a very stubborn and stupid thought process. Though I guess the argument eventually helped me realize how wrong my thought process was, which is why I still remember it. So thanks for that as well. If I ever expected someone to call me competent here, you would've probably been the last one I would've expected to say that, just because of that one argument we had.

I think you exaggerate about exorcist manga, I haven't seen that many this year. In fact bone collection was the only one of its kind that debuted at Jump this year.

there's also Ayakashi, AT and Bones comes after last year we had CSM, Higuma, Saiyuki, Mitama
not to mention SnS duo and Neverland duo both returned with oneshots about ghosts, so you can understand why people are complaining about it it

The point is that all that you are buying with respect to the story will only be shown after 30 or 40 chapters. But there was no time, and I don't see it as the fault of the author and the publisher, after all, many good manga were canceled out of nowhere.
