Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Speaking of which, do we know how the Act-age duo worked together?

We've got stuff like Samurai 8 where the artist is really just doing the final draft, or To Love Ru where the artist does a lot of writing too, or Medaka Box where their roles are very separate.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

How Takeshi ended? Was it given closure or just end on certain chapter?
Takeshi I think was immediately cancelled, but Shimabukuro was allowed to return a few years later to give it one final volume as a proper ending.

Okay everyone, what will be the future of Act-age ? According to your opinion, is it going to continue with a new story writer ? Do Shueisha must end AA ?

If they axe AA, when ? Because I honestly can't imagine AA getting stopped in the next couple of weeks.
Im betting on a silent absence on the next issue, then we will never hear about it again
I dont think it should go on for the sake of going on, a manga is a product of its writer and artist, there is no point getting another writer for it, might aswell make a new series.

End it. As great of a series it is, it'll always be associated with this incident even if someone else continues it. End the series and give the incredible artist another chance with another series.

This is extremely upsetting. I literally JUST became a die hard fan of the series, and now the author is a pedo. I like the series too much to just throw away the love I have for the series.

It also helps that the series has a co-creator (yes, consider the artist just as much of a creator when it comes to comics, due to creating the entire look and aesthetic.).

Outside of the Victim, I feel really bad for Shiro, for having all of the work of this series ruined.

As much as I love this series, If it’s not cancelled, I’m going to have a tough time supporting it going forward. I fully expect it to get axed now though

On top of the victims I feel bad for Usazaki, the staff/crew of the stage play, anyone working on a potential anime or drama if they had been greenlit and anyone else who just lost their job because this dude couldn't control his urges.
I hope he gets actual punishment and not just a small fine (not sure what the usual punishment is for this) and when he gets out Shueisha doesn't welcome him back.

Usazaki is so young, too. Wasn't she like 18 when they scouted her?

Chainsaw man is the best manga in jump

Edit: That was poor timing. Didn't know what was going on. Ignore this

Good Grief.

I went out for a while (and a visit from relatives) and this happens?!

I may not read act-age, but Usazaki is such a talented artist, I do hope they support her by giving her a brand new opportunity on a new work. Also, Jump has become grown into a giant global property and brand in the last two decades, I think they should prepare themselves going under more scrutiny than ever before. Might even trigger Japan’s own #metoo movement if they don’t deal with it accordingly.

Regarding current situation of Jump. With the loss of many titles, the WESTERN fanbase has passed from a situation where they followed +10 manga of the roster to a situation where they follow only 4-5 manga (One Piece, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Dr.Stone and Chainsawman; and there I've read of a lot of people who have dropped Black Clover and/or MHA) (Jujutsu Kaisen is starting to get some following in west but is starting to get it these last months. Thanks to anime people are discovering that Jujutsu is one of the best manga of roster).

Regarding newbies, only Mashle and maybe Ayakashi have some sort of minor following. We are in a situation a lot of western people won't know what is Yozakura or Undead Unluck.

Also, regarding anime, right now the only manga with no anime that could get it in the future would be Chainsawman.

Tbh for me this feels like the worst roster Jump has had since probably the 70s. Is a very delicated situation. At short-term Jump needs Jujutsu Kaisen anime creating a big hit, but at mid-term they need new hits urgently.

As bad as Watsuki’s situation was, I think Matsuki’s situation is much worse.

Hell, I’d say Shimabakuro was cancelled for much less.

I can’t see Act-Age ever continuing in the magazine. RIP to future volumes. RIP to the future and inevitable anime series. RIP to the future stage play. RIP to the potential live action film. This was a series that was clearly going to be huge, but now it’s done. I think any future Act-Age was going to have us over now.

I also can’t see Matsuki not getting jail time for this. So even if Shueisha wasn’t going drop him for the crime, I doubt they’d be willing to put the series on hiatus and wait for however long it takes for Matsuki to serve his time and start the series up again. And just hope that he won’t commit a crime again.

On top of that, Shiro is young and has a career of her own. She can’t just sit around waiting for him to continue working. If the series goes of a 5 year hiatus, she might have a new hit series of her own by then.

The only saving grace is MAYBE Shiro knows exactly how the rest of the series is suppose to play out from here, and could continue without Matsuki. However, from what I’m hearing they apparently hated each other, so I doubt that. And, as awful as a person he turned out being, Matsuki is still a phenomenal writer, and I doubt Act-Age could simply just continue without him.

Sadly, we witnessed one of Jump’s future pillars die in a matter of hours

That’s the optimistic view. For all of Matsuki’s doucheness, I think Usazaki will readily admit that he’s a great writer. If she managed to put that aside when she reads his manuscripts, I think at this point, she might have a pretty good idea of Matsuki’s writing style.

But yeah, AA is probably over right now.

I'm speechless.. just w.t.f. why would he do this.. was he drunk?
Do you think being drunk makes raping a child somehow acceptable?

Regardless, this is immensely shocking, disgusting, and disappointing. Hope Jump can find something as similarly fresh and unconventional to rise in its place.

I think it's less about it being acceptable and more the fact that going around on your bike, sexually assaulting middle schoolers in the middle of the street doesn't sound like something anybody in full use of their mental faculties would ever do, no matter how skeevy. Like, this isn't just bad behavior, this is also insane behavior.
