It found great success and became the longest-running rom-com in Jump history?
I think the main point is the popular oneshot of Nisekoi still has some big changes in its story and MC whent it become an ongoing.

So, you can't say Ao no Hako won't have big changes because the oneshot is popular.

I imagine that starting tomorrow, we will find out what will happen to Act age.
It will go on hiatus, or it will be canceled. Seeing the mangaplus ID or some official announcement of the shuesha, we will have an answer.

That’s part of it. But what happened is that the drastic changes from the oneshot is what disappointed many people because the harem element is what—in those people’s eyes— reduced the oneshot’s original concept and was pointless in the end.

Ao no Hako sure was a nice read, would love to see what else the author has in mind for it if it gets serialized, as long as he keeps it wholesome

The last page makes me think it could be a whole bunch of different romances of various friends and such, like Hatsukoi limited, or Sensei why are you here!? if it was heartwarming instead of pervy. We seee series like that in other magazines occasionally.

It would at least be a different sort of romance series for WSJ, which have all been slight variations on the same formula since To Love Ru.

I still think that One Piece will be #2 since it usually sells 1,500,000 at least and both series are pretty close in numbers but if Kingdom's backlog keeps selling well week after week until the end of the year then yeah goodbye #2.
They aren't that close, actually; Kingdom already has quite a big lead (about 1mln on known but OP is missing weeks due to not charting, but still going to be around 600k minimum assuming OP's backlog was consistent with its june average), and it also has another volume coming up in september. Unless its backlog just collapses in the coming weeks, Kingdom ending up #2 is extremely likely (unless OP somehow manages to squeeze a 4th volume out).

Really?

I though the other girls implied that the manga would be Harem in the future.

Unless you want to count romance series where a character happens to play a sport (Blue Flag, Your Lie in April) or the reverse (can't actually think of any examples right now but I know I've read some) the closest I can think of is Chihayafuru which is ongoing and started in December 2007 (has 44 volumes and 70+ episodes of anime). That's in a Josei magazine though so it's not really comparable.
Baby Steps? I think it ran in WSM(?) and from what I hear it’s a sports series with a big romance element. I haven’t watched it yet but I REALLY want to.

Speaking of, I’ll read Ao no Hako later today.I have work to do. I’m glad the reception seems to be very positive here!

Regarding the inmediate future of Jump, what I want to see the most is the situation with the covers. Until issue 42 we won't be able to see that.

I mean, Kimetsu, Neverland and Haikyuu got many covers. We couldn't see anything of the new situation because breaks and we already knew MHA was getting the anniversary cover.

The situation is like that for the veteran manga:
-One Piece: It receives a lot of covers (since is the franchise manga of Jump)
-My Hero Academia: Surprisingly it doesn't receive many covers, just 2-3 per year (I assume the main reason is Horikoshi's health)
-Black Clover: Same situation as MHA, just 1-2 covers per year (Tabata health and Black Clover is less important than MHA)
-Dr.Stone: In 2018 and 2019 Dr.Stone was one of the manga with most covers. I think it was the manga with most covers in 2019 tied with Neverland (4 or 5 covers if I remember well). In 2020 it got overshadowed by the ended trio of Haikyuu/Neverland/Kimetsu in number of covers though. Dr.Stone has the advantage of writer + artist in this situation, and Boichi is a monster
-Jujutsu Kaisen: The big question for me. Unlike Neverland/Dr.Stone in their two first years, Jujutsu for some reason hasn't received many covers, just 2 per year. This 2020 it got its anniversary cover really late. I expect it getting a cover in issues 42-45 because anime, but still Jujutsu hasn't had the same promotion as other manga in the same situation.
-We Never Learn: Last cover: February 2019
-Chainsawman: Last cover: November 2019

Worst case scenario we are entering in a situation with 25 One Piece covers and 20 Dr.Stone covers in 2021 (I'm exagerating but still). The main questions for me are going to be:
-Will My Hero Academia have an increase of Jump covers?
-Will Jujutsu Kaisen finally going to be promoted in terms of Jump covers?
-Will any of the newbie (Mashle, UU, etc) start receiving covers?
-Will Yozakura Family get a 1st anniversary cover?

PD: Also, for 2021 we should be getting both One Piece chapter 1000 and volume 100 so expect tons of promotion in that sense.

I saw a few tweets mentioning it last night on JPN Twitter, but it's still baffling to me. Most of this has to be from resellers, right?

I don't think act age suffers from resellers, indeed it's out of stock because many ppl went to buy it.

I would at least be ok with it if Matsuki wasn't still getting royalties (small as they are)...

Is it possible for Jump to legally change that agreement? If anything, the revenue should go to Usazaki.

This was to be expected, no matter how baffling, simply because of the sheer exposure it received as a consequence.
See the google trends data for the past week:

I imagine they migh be worried that all the volumes might get pulled otherwise or in order to show Jump that they don't want it to end if they fire the writer.

Baby Steps is not a good example of mixing sports and romance, like not at all. I know, when talking about good romance in sports series, Baby Steps comes to mind. But, that is not because romance plays a bigger role in the series than others. Not at all, it is because the author's take on romance is good, or rather refreshing for a shounen series. Romance is neither the driving force nor the focus of Baby Steps. If anything you would be hard pressed to find a series more focused on sports than Baby Steps.

Baby Steps is not something you can read just for romance, if you're not interested in sports series. On the other hand, Ao no Hako seems like a sports themed romance series. You can enjoy it even if you're not interested in the sports aspect of it. Personally, I find the art of Ao no Hako very appealing, but I am no longer interested in shonen romances. I guess it could be a nice replacement for We Never Learn?
