Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

That's absolutely the right call, and I'm glad the statement didn't forget Shiro. I hope the "we'll support her" isnt just empty words.

How would you guys feel if this blew up to near-Kimetsu sales (sounds unlikely, I know, but you never know)?
More sucks, because it would rise more victims.

What lol. That's not unlikely but straight up impossible. Even if it got it that much attention (it wouldn't, but let's just assume it does), the volumes will never be reprinted anymore so after this short burst it'll be over.

Anyways, this was the expected outcome but it's still really sad. It was one of the best series in WSJ. Sucks that the author had to be like this. Goodbye Act-Age, hope shiro will find success in her next work.

Some bookstores already said they wont restock Act age volumes anymore. They will only sell the ones that are available. So you only have the online option. (hopefully it will stay there for a while, unless Shueshia orders them to take it out).

Yeah, that makes sense. So that means AA won’t sell more than its print that’s already circulated. (Which is how much, btw?)

Hmm.... that’s certainly interesting. But are Japanese keen on ordering their mangas online? From the looks of things, I think they still prefer buying in-store.

Shiro would probably be one of the first artists jump would contact if someone who's just a writer brings in a series. But i hope she gets enough rest and recovers completely before she gets back to work

That won't happen. There will be no more reprint. That's WHY it is exploding right now, those are the last AA volumes ever.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

I guess that means either Yozakura or AB have a much greater chance of living longer than before as now a new spot opened up in Jump.

Wops my mistake, I was referring to the digital version. About buying manga online if I'm not mistaken, they are sent directly from the bookstores. So there wouldnt be any difference. If you see it's out of stock, it's over for this case.

That can't happen because that would require reprints and there's no way Shueisha will give Act age a reprint (not right now and I don't think in the future).

Hopefully the artist comes back to Jump, bit realistically speaking we all know it's hard for any artist to have a popular serialization in WSJ twice, but best of wishes to her.

Also.. I doubt it would happen but... What if this week's issue gets sold out, like what if they reprint it would they still include the last chapter of Act age or omit it from the reprint?

(And yeah in case you are wondering there have been cases where magazines get reprinted, I can't specifically talk about any Wsj issue but I remember Jump SQ's 1st issue got reprinted once iirc).

I’ve seen reports that even Amazon won’t be restocking. So the series future sales are pretty much dead

Even if they did reprint it, aren't the issues already in stores by now?

Definitely the saddest cancellation I've known. It was a fantastic series in its prime about to reach mainstream popularity, I'll always remember it for that and once Shiro Usazaki has processed all of this and decides her path I hope to see her artwork on the cover of Jump again.

It's likely now that Mitama Security, Act-Age (still so strange to type this), Bone Collection, and Time Paradox Ghostwriter will all end this round since there probably isn't enough time to retroactively continue publishing manga when the final chapters have been written/drawn. Assuming we'll go back to 19 series, by #42 the magazine will look like:

Established (7/19):
  • One Piece
  • My Hero Academia
  • Jujutsu Kaisen
  • Dr. STONE
  • Black Clover
  • Chainsaw Man (Likely ending 2021)
  • We Never Learn (Ending 2020)
Safe/Rising (9/19):
  • Mashle
  • Undead Unluck
'Unsafe' (12/19):
  • Mission: Yozakura Family
  • Moriking
  • Agravity Boys
Newcomers (19/19):
  • Ayakashi Triangle
  • Magu-chan: God of Destruction
  • Hard-boiled Cop and Dolphin
  • Me & Roboco
  • Honomieru Boy
  • Kokousei Kazoku
  • Bokura wa Ketsumei

Basically everything below Undead Unluck is free, and with We Never Learn ending in 2020 and Chainsaw Man likely to end in the first half of 2021 at the rate it's going, that would leave an insane 12 spots in the magazine, and if you want to exclude the bottom five that's still 7 'Safe/Rising' series.

Either this will be the best or worst time for new manga to get serialised. I remember there being times when there was maybe 2 spots left for grabs in the magazine, so this is wild. 2020 will likely already have the most new series in a year and if anything doesn't stick early on I imagine they'll just keep on adding more until hits start to appear.

Thanks for the clarification. So, back to my question: how many copies in print does AA have out there that we know of?

What a crazy time. Maybe more veterans should create limited series like Burn the Witch to help Jump readership for the time being

@ItsSamu

Back when Naruto ended in 2014 we all speculated the same, then in 2016 too, Iirc Bleach, Nisekoi, AssClass, Kochikame all ended... And that very same year Kimetsu starterted...

So what I'm trying to say is Jump will recover, sure it will never reach Dragon Ball levels again and I think when One Piece ends... Well I don't know what's gonna happen when its main series ends haha but we have seen Jump lose lots of super popular manga in the last couple of years and "recovering". (Sure the circulation numbers go lower and lower but that happens pretty much with every manga magazine )

Tsutsui tweeted about the issue. I can see more mangakas supporting her.

"Regarding act-age, the victims, Shiro Usazaki, the editorial department and the people involved in the Stage Play, as a fan it's really hard to speak feeling such anger, regret, and sadness. I’m keenly aware that at any given time we should act with a certain degree of pride in front of others".

Don't know how exactly accurate the translation we managed to get is, but I think it gives a hint at how Tsutsui is feeling. Really happy to see they're worried and prepared to give their support to fellow partners in the magazine.

I'd put Yozakura Family in Safe/Rising tier. Its numbers are good and it will have stuff for its 1st anniversary.

That said, counting the upcoming batch, Jump would have started 16 series this 2020. Record lies in 1994 with 18 series. A record that can easily be overcome if Jump gets a new serialization batch of 3 series in october or november.
