Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I'd like to see Fire Force at the end in the Top 10, but I feel Jujutsu could take its place,
I'm very curious what boost sales Jujutsu will have, considering backlogs sales are really good.

(btw Chainsawman Backlog is impressive without any advertising, anime.. / cool to see every Haikyu volumes in the top / every Act age volume sold above 10k this week)

Oh shit, MASHLE's gonna make the Oricon ranking! It's second volume, too! Now it's becoming a real hit.

Massive OOF for Bone Collection though. Yozakura seems to be growing quite nicely, but I'll wait to see how Week 2 fares. Things seem to be extremely frontloaded.

TPGW as a whole is an interesting case where people for some godly reason ignore everything about the story and only talk about potential or premise and im just baffled by it.

even this week chapter where the author very clearly says "FUCK IT" self insert, breaks the 4th wall, starts shitposting...there are still people cheering it and calling it a great chapter

personally i never got the argument "just be patient it gets better" because even if it does (which almost never happens) how does this magically turns the old poor chapters into something above criticism?

there's also the possibility of it being a prime example "baby's first manga"
basically the medium have received a lot of new fans thanks to KnY, and those newcomers tends to be more vocal and more optimistic than older fans who're more jaded and cynical

Really happy for Mashle, hopefully it will be able to pull 50,000 first week soon. They are still being conservative with Yozakura, despite a very obvious growth. I guess they'll set Mashle as their bar for newbies from now on.

Ok guys question. Do you expect any possible Chainsawman anime announcement in Jump Festa?

If this happen, I'm not expecting any more anime coming until 2023 at least, unless they somehow give Mashle a really early anime announcement, or unless we get surprised with a Yozakura anime announcement.

Or maybe there are some people who genuinely liked it from the beginning.

Seems fairly likely. For newer series I agree but we could always get sequels for incomplete anime or more older series that never got adaptations being adapted. Could also get some more Jump+ anime if you want to count that.

He's saying that people who have read less manga have lower expectations.
They may have liked it, but them enthusiastically liking it could imply they like it because they don't have anything else to compare it with so it seems cool and fresh.
That's why "entry level" media is considered a thing.
It's a reason why people only think Donnie Darko is a masterpiece at age 15 (despite my intense nostalgic attachment to it, it comes across as extremely infantile now).
The more experience you have with entertainment (and life in general), the more your tastes will expand and you'll likely become far more critical as a result of having personally experienced series doing things that works for you, and ones that don't.

Well this is the first year where every WSJ manga is available weekly legally (and the legal option is the most convenient too), so there's probably a lot of people who've never or rarely ever followed a new jump manga from ch 1 before.

There were tons of people in here, as well as tones of notable ppl in the anime/manga community who are well versed in reading tons of manga(including cancelled Jump series) who praised TPGW though.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an argument that TPGW was this deeply written and intelligent series. People just genuinely liked it.

Also some of TPGW problems only really become problems when they drag for multiple chapters. For Exp. Teppei May be unlikable from chapter 1 to some ppl. But that’s not always necessarily a bad thing if that’s intentional and there’s plans to develop him in the next couple chapters. TPGW just didn’t do that

Yeah, I recommend reading the most recent chapter just to see how over the top the mangakas pseudo-intellectual ragequit was.
I at least give him props for going off the deep end rather than have the time traveler being a lazy twist like it being him or Aoki's parent.
It's a pretty funny "fuck you" to both the readers and editorial board.

I know that, but people can genuinely like things even if said thing is not a masterpiece, is entry-level, if the person who likes it have read 1 or 1000 mangas before reading it or whatever. You can like something even acknowledging all criticisms as valid, it's not a problem.

I liked the series a lot more than it probably sounds, however I don't think the writer is as clever as he thinks he is. I found it more enjoyable as this pseudo intellectual trainwreck than what it was passing itself off as.

op says he's baffled that when people praise the title they ignore mentioning the story, implying they knew it's flawed but choose to ignore it
I replied about why that happens

If you genuinely like story then this doesn't apply to you

you can like whatever manga you like, art is subjective

in the case of newcomer it's basically this, I'm not gatekeeping or shitting on people's taste, I'm trying to rationalize why people can be less critical in situations when they should be

Oh absolutely, people can like whatever. I agree with you entirely.
Like how I mentioned I even still love Donnie Darko despite acknowledging it's a movie for undeveloped teenagers. It's still fun for me and brings me back to a different place in my life and mind.
I'm more focusing on a very real issue of people inexperienced with art trying to pass themselves off as experts. People who have like just started reading manga and are going to be shocked next week when Bone Collection ends thinking it was just on par with One Piece because they never bothered to look at how it's doing in the magazine, or to recognize the clear issues in this series that prevents it from being a long runner (even if I do actually enjoy Bone Collection)
I'm not a gatekeeper, I'm not talking about people genuinely liking things. I'm talking about fraudulent people being willfully intellectually dishonest.

I think the main argument was "Give it time, it'll get better" which is what a lot of people here have a problem with.
That logic cannot work for a series in WSJ which is on a short leash.
Case in point, this series. WSJ right now NEEDS new series because of all the mainstays that ended but they are still going to cancel this from the looks of it. That probably tells you everything about this series' general reception in Japan.

If you enjoyed it, good on you.

Note - This same logic is what Kishimoto used. S8 didn't do too well either.

God, this looks even more retarded than what it sounded like in spoiler.

the writer is as clever as he thinks he is
Thank for encapsulate my opinion about TPG in one sentence. This is the reason why I drop this at 3 chapters and only look at its with morbid curiosity.

IMO, in order to survive, you kind of need to hook an audience with something. That hook doesn’t have to be good, but it just has to work. I do think a series can start off bad/mediocre and get better over time (That’s the prevailing opinion of Black Clover after all, and I’m hoping for the same with Ayakashi) but first the series has to actually hook people (Japanese readers) long enough to get them buy the volumes.

Ghostwriter failed to do that, despite starting in the very same issue that Kimetsu ended in. So it had a bigger potential audience than what Jump usually gets.
