Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Good for UU, the award really seems to be having effect, it and Mashle seem to officially be the biggest hits of 2020 thus far

Hello to everyone, i generally just lurk around, but i would like to know the opinion of the people of this forum, about this:

I personally think this guy saw the last volume covers of Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw man before starting the petition . Also don't other shonen magazines/manga crossed the line more than Jump (in terms of nudity) ?

Yeah I don’t know why they only go for jump. Chainsawman and yuuna are nick jr shows compared to Domestic na kanojo and infection.

Does Magazine have anything directly aimed at kids though? Jump has/d a number of manga that can air fine in kid's slots (One Piece, My Hero Academia, Naruto, Black Clover etc). Now they have have Roboco too. I don't think Magazine has any series that I'd consider suitable for kids. They had SDS in a kid's block but it was heavily censored for example. That's probably why. Just because they're both Shonen doesn't mean they have the same demographics.

Argument could have held more water if Jump+ series were also inlcuded.

All the series you mentioned would have to be censored in a kids block too, i don't know if in Canada the TV is more "free" with these things but here in Brazil Naruto was quite censored, even punches in the face being cut and i think kunais reaching humans too, blood ofc was removed. So many things in OP would be 'problematic" for a kids block, specially all the fanservice, hot girls with big boobs everywhere, Nami would be a outrage for mothers and etc.

My Hero Academia is far from being "fine" for a kids block, characters like Midnight, Mineta, Yaoyorozu, Camie and many others would bring a lot of problems, not to mention all the violence, mature themes and blood that has in the series. Black Clover would be the one with less censorship but would still have one or two things being cut.

You can argue that WSM is a bit more to the "mature" side but it still the same demographic as WSJ, teenage boys, and excluding some few very specific series, everything that WSM publishes could be on WSJ too.

I could see Ahiru no Sora be in a kids slot tbh, I think their sport manga's are probably not that bad to go into a kids slot. But yeah, Magazine has way more manga's meant for older audience. I don't read it, but from what I heard I don't think Domestic na Kanojo would ever be in a magazine like Jump.

That’s because shonen jump is aimed at both middle and high school students (13-19) while shonen magazine is strictly aimed at highschool students (16-19). The only shonen magazine series that I feel don’t go with the shonen magazine demographic is dnk and infection (if we are counting digital than literally every thing that is not spin off, sequel, battle, or wholesome slice of life manga). Even if we count digital than shonen magazine pocket is way more mature than shonen jump plus. At least with shonen jump plus around half of the series can appeal to teenagers. With magazine pocket ,however; only a handful are aimed at teams. What makes it even worse is that they use the same label as WSM. Even that doesn’t change the fact that this magazine gets away with borderline ****** while jump gets heat for posting partial nudity.

Pretty sure any of you read more than the title of that news. The thing isn't about "this had sex" "this doesn't had sex" but difference the "echi" parts (woman in a bikini or naked) from touching woman without they consent. Why is this?? Because there is a pretty big cultural thing in Japan that touching woman isn't a bad thing, like he say that when he was little saw boys touching girl and didn't realized it was a bad thing.

I mean...WSM has serialized stuff like Violence Jack..which is way more fucked up than anything Jump has really published..I've heard that WSM always had an older readership than the target demo.

I'm pretty sure the whole Act-Age fiasco says otherwise.

So getting back on topic, Cop and Dolphin's first rank is next week, what's everyone's guesses on how well (or not well) it'll do? Also now that we've got a new batch upcoming, how about some thoughts on the previous batch so far? my ranking and thoughts

1) Magu-chan - there are other series right now with a similar "normal kid gets crazy strong pet" but this one stands out the most to me because it's style of comedy is very different, it has a relaxing slice of life feel to it compared to Moriking and Roboco both being nonstop crazy gags and constant tsukkomi routines

2) Ayakashi Triangle - despite the generic setting and characters this is growing on me a lot, it's never going to be one of my favourites but it's a great low-stress series to have between the intense battle shounen so I like having it around

3) Me & Roboco - gags are very hit or miss so far but they come so fast that the misses are gone quickly, I don't particularly dislike it but I don't really care about it either

4) Cop and Dolphin - this one just doesn't stick with me at all whether with the characters or gags or plots, but I didn't like Beelzebub or Hungry Marie either so maybe Tamura's style in general just isn't my thing

I was talking about Japan. All those shows air in the evenings rather than late nights where most the anime we watch airs.

Feel like Cop and Dolphin will get a decently high ranking first and then drop down. As for my thoughts on the latest batch, my ranking would be Ayakashi>Roboco>Magu>Cop and Dolphin, but honestly other than Ayakashi I don't really care for them that much. Ayakashi isn't the best thing ever or anything, but it's a pretty well executed simple story and I dig it. Roboco and Magu are funny sometimes but not enough for me to really like them. Cop and Dolphin just isn't focused enough, I do like the dolphin though, he's generally fun.

While I do like the SoL element in Magu-chan, I just wish the author had a more polished art style. If it did, it would be in my weekly read. This is mainly because I don’t think the art style fully captures the SoL atmosphere. As it is right now, I read it on and off. AT is fine for ecchi lovers, but it’s so thin on plot so it’s definitely not my cup of tea.

I love me some unpolished artwork, so that's not really an issue for me. Magu's art really does give the series it's character.
Also as an ecchi guy, AT doesn't have enough of it so it's kinda thin on all aspects for me.

Mine would be
1. Magu
2. Cop and Dolphin
3. Ayakashi
4. Roboco

I dont have a problem with Magu-chan's artstyle, even it isnt the best the story is so engaging and fun that I dont mind it, as a matter of fact it gives the story its own identity, plus I'm confident that if the series sticks Kamiki's art will improve

My ranking would be Ayakashi, Magu-chan, and then I don't read the other two.

Honestly I already dropped Roboco and Magu and I'm pretty close on both Ayakashi and Cop and Dolphin. I guess I'd rank them
1. C&D
2. Ayakashi
3. Magu
4. Roboco.

Roboco isn't for me and I knew that from the start. Magu I tried sticking with a bit due to the popularity here but I just found it boring. Ayakashi and C&D are mostly just kinda there reads for me. Don't really dislike but don't really look forward to reading them. If they don't get axed I'll probably get bored and drop them both too.
