Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I mean, who cares?

It's canned. Let people think whatever they want. They're just beating a dead horse.
True. Just think it’s a bit annoying personally when I see that kinda new spread within other anime communities I’m apart of and friends who’re a little less informed than ppl in here.

I was thinking, that if it had released after or before KnY's ending, its chances of survive would have increased just a little bit? (of course there are many factors that led this to be canceled) I just feel the manga had a ton of exposure and therefore more scrutiny.

I feel like after this batch we are basically guaranteed a Stone cover, of the series that got a bunch of covers its one of the only ones thats left and has only gotten 1 cover this year. Maybe #42 and then JJK #43 to be a bit closer to the anime. Might as well through in a Chainsaw cover, been a hot minute since we got one of those.

Why tho? If anything if it released before KnY's end, it would have been grossly overshadowed and ignored.

Exposure is exactly why people want to serialize in WSJ. The failure to capitalize on the exposure is the fault of the creator.
Many other Mangaka would kill to have gotten that kind of exposure.

Right, they missed that opportunity and there was some bad luck, dunno I was just trying to dig more in the coffin's hole.

I mean, who cares?

It's canned. Let people think whatever they want. They're just beating a dead horse. The only thing that really matters is that Japan didn't like it, and nothing anyone says will change that fact.
I think that for now, people like us who are more used to the system the magazine has should normalize this behavior from other readers. Not trying to be elitist or anything like that, but it's pretty clear there are people with a better understanding and way more research done that expects when a series can end, and even if they feel sad or not about it, they don't try to find crazy justifications as to why that series has ended. This is also a problem that doesn't only come from readers not researching, but of them still most likely not being used to how Jump actually works, since this pace of cancelations and new U19 members is actually (or at least should be) the usual.

Even with MANGA Plus being more than 1 year old already and having made lots of series accessible for readers, it's still pretty clear a more casual readership strongly believes the magazine cancels series quickly, and they're not actually to blame for that. Even if I'm basing all of this in hypothesis and not actual research, I'm pretty sure most of these readers started following new series from Samurai 8 batch onwards, which included Double Taisei, Beast Children and Tokyo Shinobi Squad. And I think these three lasting almost 30 chapters was not a really appropriate experience for western readers of how the magazine actually works since that was really exceptional. And because of that, I don't find that crazy people complain about the magazine canceling stuff quickly with less than 20 chapters as we have had lately. Of course, it's not that the magazine is being quick, but that this new readership has no reference at all, and that reference they have has had such long runs they find these situations crazy.

Of course, this could all be solved by putting them to research and showing them how series were previously axed with the same speed these new ones are being ended, but how do you even do that? How do you pull a consistently growing audience to look for all the numbers, information, and data users like us are aware of?

With all of this my whole point sums up in just letting these people be until they get used to what Jump actually is. As of now, they'll complain, feel sad, and try to justify all of this with whatever dumb excuse they come up with. Caring about every single one seems a lot of a pain to me, so it's better they live the experience themselves and end up learning slowly, get even more references, gather more data by themselves, join communities, and in a few years have a less chaotic community. Of course, this implies letting lots of misinformation spread around social media and websites, but it will depend on that same readership level of maturity and criticism to actually research that information or ask in other places so they get sourced stuff, and reduce as much as possible that level of misinformation. I don't think the solution to this is to complain or criticize the behavior but to try to correct it in proper discussions or letting that people have their interest in this content grow.

I mean, they'll probably forget about the series in 2 weeks and we have a 3 new series batch incoming, so let's just focus on that I guess.

In essence, let the people that want to learn how Jump actually works be curious enough to learn and research, like (I assume) we all did at once point, and let the people that don't want to remain... ignorant, for lack of a better term. Either way, they'll defintiely get used to it.

I hope this is what you're saying. I just wanted to be concise.

It indeed is, I just tend to write way more than I should, lol. But yes, I'm pretty sure the existence of people with less knowledge that complains for the sake of it is not an exclusive treat of western readership. I don't know, there was this guy who bought around 50 copies or so of Time Paradox, and back then some guy also bought an insane amount of ne0;lation Volume 1. I'm pretty sure both felt sad and complained too. But that's what it is.

There's even people trying to get a #FuckShueisha hashtag trending on Twitter. I can't even call this pathetic anymore. It's just sad.

Like why this series of all series, even? I understand if it's their absolute first serial from chapter 1, but they've been exposed to other media. They should know what is a technically workable series, and TPGW just isn't that. It's definitely not the quick cancel of the last five years that should be causing any backlash, if any at all. Maybe that's just my opinion on it.

If people ACTUALLY care about the manga at all, at least learn a little about how sales work. TPGW sales would get you axed in under 5 volumes in WSS, much less WSJ, and if they had known that, it could have at least softened the blow for them, if nothing else.

If people truly wanted to learn about how this magazine works, they have no excuse with the internet and forums like this at their fingertips.
Heck, I fucking learned about it using a dial up connection until 2011 (yes, I had dial up until then. Try having Indian parents who didn't understand the need for the internet). I used to be active on sites like LiveJournal and browsing this forum before I joined here.

Part of the problem will always be clickbait accounts/personalities.
Accounts trying to do their best to get attention even if it means acting ignorant and posting stuff that easily captures the attention of gullible casual readers who do not know or understand how the industry and WSJ works. Because clicks and hits for attention over facts, amiright?

They are lazy people who wants everything served in their plates. Also it's tiresome and so hard to expain something without being labeled as hater/fanboy and you do it in the most peaceful way as possible.

For a lot of ppl this was probably their first hyped axed series. And this is the first series that’s been THIS hyped since Jump rebranded in the West.

It also had huge shoutouts from 3 big aniyoutubers with 1Mil+ subscribers. So it had a way bigger fanbase than your typical axed series

See, I understand that argument, but at the same time, that makes it even worse to me. That makes it sound less like "I have read and genuinely enjoyed this series", and more along the lines of "well, X person I watch/like said it was good and is going to be the next big thing, may as well take their word for it".

In short, I don't necessarily think it has a bigger fanbase, I just think more casual people had heard about it from personalities instead of forming their own opinion on the material.

Yes. The current culture right now is to get behind the "popular" thing. So if a popular influencer (more apt term than personality in my eyes because these guys are just as cringe as influencers) tells them that this series is good, this person's audience is going to eat that up as a fact.

Happy 1 year anniversary Yozakura Family 🎉
Dang for me, it really doesn't feel like Yozakura started a year ago lol. Hope the series continues to grow!

I wonder what old Jump series would have garnered a TPGW western following if M+ were to exist back then.

In my opinion it would probably be mangas like Hungry Joker, Iron Knight, Red Sprite or Ibitsu no Amalgam, to mention a few from the past decade.
