been telling people magazine pocket has gems we'll never get translated, I've been enjoying the web app over the main mag from both jump and magazine. The most recent 100YQ chp just set up the next arc and Nagatoro's story got way more entertaining after the president and sister's debut. Monster #8 from jump+ I'd take over everything except MHA, starting to love that one. I've heard Jigo good too just haven't started. Just hope they wake up for a free simlapub app soon or even collab with manga+
90% magazine pocket and jump+ are edgy shit like Ijimeru Yabai Yatsu.
Despite being stale and predictable, main mags have the benefit of quality control.

Ijimeru Yabai Yatsu is an odd example to pick out, it's a stealth gag manga that's making fun of all the edgy crap and showing how silly it all is. It's actually a lot of fun and very worth reading.
This first chapter was both hilarious and intense. Very unique premise and it definitely have a lot of potential. It can still go downhill but I will say I do have my eye on this. Shonen magazine seems to be on a role rn; RAGF is having a big boost in sales, cuckoo fiancé breaking records, shangri la most likely going to sell 100k+ first volume, and Tokyo revengers/Eden zero most like being smash hits next year (blue lock getting an anime next year would be overkill). I’m sure kodansha are relieved about this since some of there most successful series like AOT and NNT have/are ending this year. What’s even more crazy is that I think shonen magazine’s 2020 series have been more successful than jump’s 2020 series (just an assumption you can fact check me if I’m wrong).
Went it with little expectations and came away very interested, I like the spin on the genre with it not being a medievil style world but just literally the middle ages. Seeing Makito pull off various magic looking tricks could be cool. Not exactly the type of series I want to have a harem (I like a good harem but prefer them more vanilla) so we'll see but so far Shonen Mag seems to be killing it with veteran returns this year between this and Cuckoo.

While I do agree that pocket does have it’s heartwarming romance manga and intriguing thrillers, the site is no where near as quality as shonen magazine. Series like the incredible written and gut wrenching to your eternity and Tokyo revengers with its great amount of heart and uniqueness alone blows any magazine pocket manga out of the water. That’s not even me mentioning the amazing sports manga (based on me reading baby steps, daiya no ace, ahiru no sora, days, and blue lock) and romcoms that are binge worthy and actually are insanely funny (especially kanojo mo kanojo). The only genre I feel shonen magazine falls flat on it’s face in is non yankee battle manga as most of the time they are just ok or worse.
While magazine pocket has some good series it’s mostly filled with trashy borderline h, corny horror manga, and generic isekai manga. While jump plus and ura Sunday do have there trash series, there seems to be more control on manga quality and it doesn’t seem like there just letting any random person just put manga on the app.

WSM/Kodansha releasing their equivalent to manga+ would be the dream. I want to read titles like Shangri-La & this one (he was assistant for Jigokuraku)
Let's call it a full groove once their battle shonens become hits which I think is a good possibility of happening if their anime gets a talented studio & staff akin to FF.
I dunno about all that. WSJ has 3 young (2019 and onwards) series that are growing (Yozakura, Mashle and UU) while WSM really only has Cuckoos. We don’t know how shangri La or This new witches manga will sell for a while
Recently, I've been doing my own personal opinion excel sheet on what I think the current state of some manga magazines are. I recently just finished one for Weekly Shonen Magazine, with some tweaks. I mainly took sales and general status of the series (does it have an anime, how long has it been running, etc) into account here. Feel free to disagree! I tend to be very conservative with my rankings here.
Some explanations:
Magazine's pillars don't really sell much more than it's mainstays, I find. What makes these three pillars to me is that they sell very well, have/had anime adaptations, and can generally be considered a franchise. I expect Rent-A-Girlfriend to really get a solid sales boost that will turn it into somewhat of a respectable successor to Quints.
The mainstays sell relatively well, when compared to the rest of the magazine. With the exception of Seitokai, all of them seem to sell about 90-105k, which is honestly really impressive, considering how many there are. Some might be declining, but others continue to increase. Seitokai has the benefit of an ongoing anime movie project in the works.
Stable series are just that. They don't sell as much as the mainstays, but they're still selling decently, especially when compared to Hitman. Hitman's seems to barely be selling well enough and for long enough to avoid being cancelled, but the numbers aren't exactly great.
I only have Shangri-La Frontier in Uncertain territory because V1 sales numbers haven't been released yet. Though it seems that the magazine has a big hit in the making with this one! Kanojo mo Kanojo I only have in Up and Comers because I'd like to see if Volume 2 can improve upon Volume 1's sales.
Overall, out of the four Weekly Shonen manga magazines, Weekly Shonen Magazine is in the healthiest position at the moment. It may have lost it's strongest pillars and some stable series this year, but it makes up for it by having plenty of series that sell pretty well, in addition to having the best luck with scoring new hits (Cuckoo's Fiancee is skyrocketing in popularity, Kanojo mo Kanojo had a pretty good start IMO, and Shangri-La is primed to make a ton of waves when it's first volume releases.)
I hope that’s not the case but the amount of successful series shonen magazine have been getting and with Eden zero, TMR, and blue lock
getting anime soon and I know for sure that at least one of them will be a breakout hit I think it is becoming more and more of a possibility. Granted jump still have JJK but I see that reaching MHA levels of manga sales rather than demon slayer. Jump really needs to step up there game with there new manga because the only manga I see becoming a signboard work is Mashle while Shonen magazine have plenty of potential candidates for being major hits 2021, 2022, and even 2023 depending on how long some adaptations take.

Mashle and Undead Unluck are growing, but not nearly as fast as Cuckoo's Fiance. And while Yozakura is growing to the point where I don't really see it dying, I still can't help but shake the feeling that Yozakura has been really lucky all this time (sorry, Reborn).
Meanwhile, we have evidence that Shangri-La is a hit in the making, as I recall someone from the magazine saying that readership fo the magazine itself increased due to Shangri-La, which is a very good sign for it. We dunno how much the volumes will sell, but it's very likely that it won't flop. The new manga about witches just started, thouh, so we won't have any info on how that might be doing for a good month or two.

The difference between cuckoo and those 3 series are that cuckoo is basically already a hit while the 3 series are not. They are selling well enough to stay in jump but that’s about it. While mashle sales are growing they are decent at best especially for jump standards. If mashle was made 5 years ago when a lot of signboard works were still running it would probably have been axed by now and if it was running 10 years ago it would be axed U19 without any regret. Cuckoo however would definitely survive any era of shonen magazine except for maybe 1966-1972 or 1995-2001. Might not had been considered a success but could probably survive a good 3 years if sales were stable. Also seeing the hype around shangri la the manga will probably beat mashle’s total sales in the first week.
Magazine and Jump are in different states right now.
Magazine has a full lineup of hit series right now, but none are particularly huge hits.
Jump meanwhile has a very small lineup of hits right now but I think all of them except WNL are bigger than anything from Magazine now that Sins and Quintuplets are gone? Sure Jump's a bigger place in general but usually Magazine has at least a couple proper big hits. I guess we still need to see how Eden's Zero and Tokyo Revengers' anime help them grow though.
It is certainly interesting to see Magazine and maybe even Sunday (with Frieren) both have a new hit that's bigger than any of Jump's newbie despite Jump having so many.
I mean, I somehow get it, but this comparison is a bit lacking; Jump still has its big long-running hit going on with One Piece and WSM doesn't really have any big hits, nothing that sells that much. Where are the big hits like Kindaichi, Shoot or GTO that WSM had during that time in the 90s now that are supposed to rival Jump?
