Don’t get me wrong. Regardless of how good the live action may be, I don’t think it’ll ever be as good as the manga, or even the anime, unless it has a budget of $300 Million per episode.
But there’s a huge crowd of ppl out there who aren’t into “nerd stuff” like comics/manga, and anime/cartoons, because they write it off as being childish and for geeks; but will be fully on board if said series gets a live action film or tv series.
I have relatives and peers who will look at me weirded out when they see me reading a Batman comic book, saying “you still read that stuff........”. But will be hyped when they see who the next A List actor to play Batman will be.
I doubt the live action series will get a lot of westerners picking up manga volumes. But if it’s really good and gets the same level of hype other Netflix originals get, One Piece will probably gain a huge fanbase from ppl who would never pick up the manga or watch the anime.
And it could probably attract that large amount of ppl who are anime fans, but are hesitant to jump into One Piece because of its length. The live action series presents a fresh start to the franchise that they can be a part of with everyone else, and ween them into the manga and anime
