BTW was released in about 30 theatres which obviously mean it won't make much especially when it is also available for streaming the same day but it still did good
*5 *4207 *17112 *130 *31 ****** BURN THE WITCH
15 *4483 *17305 *130 *31 ****** BURN THE WITCH
17 *2659 *17222 *130 *31 ****** BURN THE WITCH

it sold 11k tickets in its first 3 days , Gintama was released in 127 theatres and probably many more screens

oh okay,,, i always see that if you get limited release (indie movie, low budget) that doing great numbers got you wider-wider release going on..
but, its got straight to streaming service too, so pre sales numbers might not surpassed expectation too, right??

Total weekend: ¥4.6 billion ($43.9 million)
Its Historic, bruh.
what king of product/brand that KNY are. Manga, light novel, anime tv, song, now movie..
what next?? merch, Live action (will KNY able to crush the curse too???)

No, it was determined from the beginning that it will available to streaming, the money they got from licensing it probably that what they would have got from theater only release.

Every company determine how to maximise their profit, some anime movie go for limited release and no streaming just to sell BD(like Kara no kyoukai) and some goes with limited release and also streaming (Kabaneri and Burn the Witch) and the rest have wide releases since they have enough fans to support it.

Right now KnY's volume is #1 is Amazon Japan's bestseller, and a pack of volume 1-19 is #3, I expected KnY to get a boost in sales, even get all the top 10 spots of Oricon again maybe? But it's just weird that volume 1 would be the best seller like I would have guessed people would start buying the volume where the movie finished..?

I find it interesting and worth pointing out that the generation that this movie/franchise targets is the same generation of the Yokai Watch mania, that got the franchise to have the biggest animated film opening in Japan back in 2014... The franchise got a huge explosion in popularity (even surpassing Pokemon, some people thought Pokemon would die and Yo-Kai watch would take its place, hindsight is a lovely thing isn't it?) and now it's more like Yo-kai what? The new movie didn't even get 10% of what the first one did 7 years ago.

Why am I making these comparisons? Am I calling Kimetsu no Yaiba a fad like Yo-Kai watch ended up being? Nope, but it's certainly interesting that it's the same target generation, kids who were six to twelve 7 years ago are now teenager/young adults... But KnY appeals to a way broader audience, like 12-30ish years old instead of Yo-kai's range that was probably 4-12ish.

The decline of Yo-Kai watch is pretty easy to understand, these kids simply grew and Yo-kai couldn't get new "watchers" (pun intended haha), kinda like some YouTubers complain that the youtube algorithm wants them to fail when the reality is that their audiences grew and don't care about that content anymore, but the same is not true for Kimetsu no Yaiba as its fanbase is probably old enough to love and cherish the story for the rest of their lives (or at least for some years).

Also, I think if they play their cards right they could make the ending or a prologue of Kimetsu no Yaiba a movie and break even more records.

Probably from people who didn't know about the series. I know there are people who only watched the anime and waited for the movie to come and then buy the volumes, and there's that group but it's weird to be spoiled in this movie and then start over again by buying vol1 lol.

I don’t think Kimetsu and Yo-Kai Watch is comparable.

While Kimetsu No Yaiba’s “target” demographic probably falls under that generation of children, Kimetsu likely has a way wider variety in age groups within its fan base.

Yo-Kai Watch had a ton of 8-13 fans, but I highly doubt many people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s were going out of their way to get into the Yo-Kai watch fandom.
While Kimetsu No Yaiba majority fan base is probably teens and young adults, there is also likely a large fan base of late 20s, and ppl in their 30s watching the series

Not the same demographic at all, Kimetsu is PG12 movie and its average ticket price is 1350 yen and have been doing very strong on late screening with noon screening being week all pointing out that it have a very large 20-30 old viewers, now look at Yokai Watch, its average ticket price was 1090 yen and its late screening were non existent.

Also when TV Asahi had best anime song contest, this is how Gurenge did among each demographic.
I think he’s saying that the kids that liked Yokai Watch 6-7 years ago, are grown up now and are the demographic of ppl seeing the Demon Slayer Movie. He’s not saying that Demon Slayer and Yokai Watch Target the same demographic

More data, seems it will have a new record for the biggest Monday ever, beating Saturday and Sunday of other major films.

It's not gonna beat its own saturday and sunday or get anywhere near that for the matter, it doesn't even have as many seats available as the tickets it sold yesterday/saturday (restrictions are back on during weekdays and well, it's monday). It does seem like it could be the biggest monday ever potentially though but wait and see.

Also I feel tracking the movie every day might be going a bit too far for this thread lol.

@pamuchi
It will totally beat monday's records, but it won't beat it's own Saturday or Sunday records, KnY Monday's record is expected to beat every other movie's Saturday's or Sunday's. (Also worth nothing that this is with max 50% capacity in movie theaters, since movie theaters are max 50% on weekdays).

Yeah sorry @yadayada but.. I mean haha it's historical and it's a jump property so technically we are on topic haha. I mean I'm not the biggest KnY fan by any stretch of imagination but this is a big deal that may never be repeated (until the inevitable KnY movie next year).

Let's see how if this thing has legs.. Part of me wants it not to have them haha not gonna lie. Sorry KnY fans but the Schadenfreude is too strong within me for this particular property, I might have to eat my own words when I actually get to read/watch it.

From this forum I got that the previous record owner Yo-kai watch had a 4.8x multiplier (which was kind of low) but I actually think maybe KnY will be similar or even lower? Like just how many people are KnY fans? I think that maybe just maybe the vast majority of fans couldn't wait and went to the movie theaters in mass and maybe the next weeks are gonna see like an 70% decrease or something, but meh.. who am I kidding KnY will probably have a good multiplier.

Yeah I read it wrong and it said it's on track to beat most Saturday/Sunday of other films. But still it could have the biggest Monday.

Nah I agree that this should be talked about because it absolutely is a historical moment, I just meant that tracking every monday, tuesday etc. may be going a bit too far on this particular thread :P

Hell, it's so big that even Shinkai is impressed...

When friggin’ Shinkai is floored by Kimetsu outpacing his own movie (and might just overtake his magnum opus)......

On a side note, I have to wonder if this means Shinkai might be interested in looking into ufotable’s staff.... I mean, he probably doesn’t need them, but hiring the talented staff at ufotable to join his studio isn’t a bad idea either.

One last thing, if anyone can grab which cuts Yutapon did in this movie, I’d appreciate them.

Yutapon wasn't in the movie.

Really? I heard the rumours a while ago that he himself implied he would be taking part in the movie.
