Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Now every newbie that isn't Ayakashi Triangle won't have chance of charting! Great! Way to make a Oricon obsolete. Don't even know if I'm excited to see Jujutsu Kaisen's backlog numbers anymore.
Everytime there is a wall of anything on oricon, I just skip it.
If this "everything breaks oricon" trend continues I think it just becomes obsolete for most series.

Red Hood is promising. I want it to be serialized.
Are there translations for the other GFC, Blade Kid maybe, since it was #2? From the raw it seemed promising as well.

I don't think a series putting all volumes up there with a boost is anything new. It wasn't as noticeable before because we had access to the top 100.

That's exactly the issue at hand lol. It's not about a series putting all their volumes up there, it's about Oricon becoming useless because you have 2 series taking up over 80% of a top 50 chart and this will block a lot of series out of it. And that's for the paid one, the free one only goes up to the 30th place which is much worse.

If Jujutsu Kaisen's boost manages to increase even more, even an instant success like Ayakashi Triangle might not have a chance of showing up in the top 50. They have to bring back the top 100.

The fact that S4 didn’t get a noticeable boost speaks to Mukai’s lack of abilities to direct the series. You could argue it’s a normal drop-off, but I don’t really think so. I think the drop-off was compounded moreso by the dip in quality after Mukai took over. The only thing I could be grateful for is, MHA’s production is still several levels above most studios and even more so compared to traditional Jump studios (Toei, Pierrot come to mind) as well as always delivering on the big moments.

I just really hope S6 brings back the early seasons’ level of quality. They CANNOT screw that up.
Or has there simply been no drop, no screwed up and the series has already peaked beyond which it will not go?

I really feel the choice to release S1 so soon leading to a shortened season, really hurt MHA’s ceiling. If they had waited until 2017, they could’ve gone 2 cours where people would have gotten the amazing Todoroki vs Midoriya match for their first season and end it on ch. 59.

To be honest, IMO, I did not see S4 providing any boosts solely because of the events at that point in the series were just meh. At this point, I just expect new seasons to help with stabilization of the sales. I don't foresee any growth.

If they get S6 just RIGHT, it’s entirely possible we could see a second wave of boost for the series. But I don’t have much faith in the guy at the top.

I really just think that we've hit a peak, regardless of quality. I really don't think that the quality of either the production or the manga itself is the major cause for high sales. But, who knows, really? Maybe this 5th season will boose HeroAca's numbers to new heights that we didn't think were possible, maybe it won't. I hope for the former, but I'm prepared for the latter.

I will say that I'd prefer if the creative team of the anime prioritized the show overmaking one-off, canon-in-name-only movies.

That's why I said there needs to be a backlog Oricon. Just use a * to mark the 50 different series normal Oricon which would have been usually hold by a backlog and then have a link to said backlog ranking. They will not do that though, because waste of money because at some point in the future neither series will hug all top50 spots anymore.

But really they are two very popular arc .....

Again, but what do you mean? Was the fourth season badly done? And who says it?

But why this spasmodic need to increase sales when the series is already selling a lot?

Really, I don't understand the meaning of it.

Here's the problem with that... when will that happen?

Kimetsu has been hogging the Top 50 spots in Oricon for over a year now. And it's just now getting a MAJOR boost because the movie came out. With the way things have been going, if Ufotable is quick enough with the anime content, it could very well be sitting there for years on end. Japan is still eating everything with KnY's name on it. Which is bad for sales data already, but then you realize that if another big anime airs in that timeframe, then Oricon becomes borderline useless. We're seeing this now. Many, many series tend to hit Oricon for a week or two before dropping off, and now it seems even unlikely for that to happen unless they get a long first week.

Jujutsu Kaisen is two-cour. It's going to be running for six months, and who knows how long the backlogs will last. Chainsaw Man's definitely going to get an anime too at some point, and it'll probably boost sales tremendously considering how popular the manga is already.

Just noticed volume 29 of MHA is not set to release this year, I thought they would do November since there is definitely enough chapters, but not even December is a weird thing.

As for the sales and the anime of MHA it simply hit it peak. I honestly expected more from the series but almost everything between the 100th chapter and the current arc have been not good to put it kindly.

While unlikely for a series that ran a long time, new boosts are always possible.

It’s entirely possible for MHA to have a really hyped season to cause word of mouth to spread. For ppl to go “If you haven’t been keeping up with the series lately, or haven’t started at all, you HAVE to watch the new season!!!”, which could cause ppl to pick up backlogs. Ppl that dropped it, and ppl who haven’t read it alike

It’s not the most likely thing to happen. But MHA’s best shot at a new boost is with the season that adapts the current arc(season 6 probably).

Wait, what? Did they cancel the release? I haven’t seen it, even though I’m sure I saw it being released in November somewhere around here.

Same. I just hope the OG staff come back for that season. Unless someone better comes along. I hear Hitomi Odashima’s good, and someone to keep an eye on. All I do remember is that there was a female director on the episode that covered the training segment at the camp in S3, and I remember the glowing reviews for her.

Its not here and the new patch is in a week and no volume cover yet.

I definitely agree that Season 4 has a big drop in quality compared to other seasons. The one Negative to long runners is that if they run too long the same staff doesn’t stay forever. Unlike the original mangaka, the director’s and animators likely don’t want to spend 10-15 years working on a single series. So when the series start and gets a fantastic, or notable director, that director isn’t likely to stay more than maybe a season or 2

As far as I know, Nagasaki left the tv series so he could focus on the movie projects from here on. Same goes for Umakoshi, with occasional involvement in some episodes. Speaking of long-runners, Mukai rather happily admitted that he’s a fan of long-runners, and thinks MHA should’ve been one. Ugh. Just thinking about that gives me the willies in my stomach. With that kind of “old-school” thinking, it’s no surprise you get the feeling the direction of S4 being very conservative.

You're thinking of Rie Matsumoto I think, still surprised that episode even happened. That being said I don't think she'll do more for the franchise, her last few projects have been really cool music videos, and the rumor has been for years that she'll do a movie but who knows at this point. Point being I think she's probably done with franchise tv anime.
