Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

Not sure when that was added since it was not initially there when the december list was first published (still not on s-manga either), but fair enough. My bad.

Viz translated the Build King one-shot, so they should add it to the vault if they plan to pick up the series.

So we're getting a fantasy action/adventure manga and a delinquent(?) manga? They both look quite different from what we've currently got which is good.

Sakamoto Days had an oneshot in 2020 Winter GIGA, btw.

Yep, the oneshot:

Well shit. Did that guy use a trowel to slice someone's neck? For some reason that reminded me of John Wick or The Raidwatch the Raid movies

They still are. Every do often, I still see people post pictures of big ads of JJK on twitter. They never really stopped.
Yes, but from the way @Mankichi Togawa was saying, it sounded more like he suggested Jump should be pushing all their chips onto Build King instead of what’s currently popular. I’m fine with them promoting either series, I just think something new like Build King should be given less priority at the moment.

Damn. That oneshot was utterly badass! I’d take this over Cop & Dolphin anyday. It looks more like an American setting, but I think it’s definitely Japanese. The art is admittedly rough, but I have hopes it’ll develop well.

My Hero Academia and Dr. Stone are just two immovable rocks right now. The surprising thing is Jujutsu Kaisen being constantly in the middle despite having an ongoing anime, which is popular enough, and is showing good sings of a boost. Mashle is back to the top, which is good. Happy for the CP for Honomieru Shounen, it's always good to see Matsuura's art. Don't want to count my blessings yet, but hopefully it translates to sales.

Yozakura’s in 4th? It’s been really popping off in the rankings as of late. I wonder what happened?

Toriko’s mangaka ! Yes, I cannot wait for his return. Toriko was awesome but had a rushed ending.

TOC time!
  • Mission: Yozakura Family in the top 5 once again is impressive. Surprised JJK isn't higher.
  • Me & Roboco and Ayakashi in the middle which I think they'll probably even out to in the long run.
  • Phantom Seer a little better this week and getting a colour page which is nice (though everything seems to be getting colour pages early on now)
  • Our Blood Oath has dropped to where I expected it'd be, not a great sign.
So with two new series in Issues 50 and 51 like I thought, I wonder if we'll then get another small-fish serialisation round just before One Piece's 1,000th chapter. Out of BUILD KING and Sakamoto Boys I'm definitely interested in the latter - looks like it might fill the void of brutal action that Chainsaw man will leave behind.

I'm not really a fan but the latest serious arc that finished (as well as the current arc) are much better than the episodic stories we'd had up until then. The TOC improvement seems to be in line with that shift in focus and its new editor (who did Haikyuu!! before).

If I'm remembering correctly, both within the series and in its place in the magazine, it's got quite a similar trajectory to Reborn.

It did a serious arc that built off of a main plot like it had been gradually developing.

Reborn was popular from the getgo. 270K circulation for volumes 1-2 according to comicdata, and it got early covers and good rankings in a very very competitive WSJ.

Yeah, looking back at the 2004 TOC it went to the top 5 pretty quick as well even in that year. Yozakura is probably more comparable in how it's shifted its focus from primarily comedy, similar to how Reborn eventually went.
