Remember when I suggested to look back at last year prediction to see if you fared well? Since I didn't get much answers, I did the dirty job for you. Here we go:
...not really.
Nope.
Unfortunately not.
Sorry bro.
5 out of 9, with some imprecisions.
3 1/2 out of 10
8 out of 10, more or less. Not bad!
*checks wiki*
Oh, the Sket Dance guy. Still MIA unfortunately.
No news about CSM anime yet.
I'm no good with sales data, so I leave it to the experts. Did he got them right?
Nailed it!
...well, you sure got your comedy.
Sorry, keep waiting.
1 out of 7
0 out of 6...not bad.
Not sure about all of them, but it seems like most predictions were wrong.
One correct, others partially correct.
1 out of 6
2 out of 7 (more or less)
5 complete guesses out of 15, a couple of partials
3 out of 8
Dragon Quest fills the quota, right? If so, 1 correct prediction.
3 out of 7.
3 sure guesses, some other partially right. Some are too subjective to judge.
1 1/2 out of 4
...keep waiting, then.
7 out of 10, with some adjustments.
2 1/2 out of 9
Still not good with sales data. Anyone help?
I may have gotten something wrong, especially about the sales or popularity predictions. Please feel free to correct, I'm here to learn!! :-)
Makes the TOC very confusing to me. Maybe those Magu-Chan and Agavity color pages were legit(I know Agravity sales aren’t this good though).
My guess is that maybe Survey results for a lot of the I established series right now aren’t that far off atm, and all of them are doing relatively decent.

Maybe Jump feel that they don't need to push gag series too much, plus most readers might enjoy them but they aren't the readers most favorite series so they don't get much votes. Like readers like JJK, CSM, MHA, OP more but the gags series are like appetite.
Samurai 8. It’s early push was more excessive. Had it actually been a success and got the sales it needed to survive, the push would have probably been much worse.
None stop covers and color pages. Long running anime.
Anime crossover episodes with Naruto and Boruto.
I think overall, more was put into Toriko over the years, but it actually performed somewhat. Like assumedly they at least got their money back. Samurai 8 had an absolutely massive push right out the gate, landing dead in the water and just sinking lower after that. It's sales for all 5 volumes probably barely paid off overprinting volume 1 so badly.
And that's coming from someone who liked Samurai 8 all the way to the end. The push was just too much too quickly. It was overkill, and not the good kind.
To summarize, Toriko got a crossover with One Piece (both anime and manga) and Dragon Ball (pre-Super) as well as crossover merchandise, etc. It also got an anime that literally aired RIGHT before One Piece, to capitalize on One Piece’s viewership, etc.
Oda and Shimabu are best friends in real life, also.
A thought I had about Agravity Boys, issue #50 will have ch 44 which means it'll last longer than Samurai 8.
Does that make it the second longest ever Jump manga set in space? There are other series with space arcs (DBZ, Gintama, To Love Ru) but they still spent the vast majority of their series on Earth, The only longer one I'm aware that's mostly in space is Cobra from all the way back in 1979.
I wasn't around to read Samurai 8 while it was weekly, though by the experience of others it sounds like it was the most egregious.
I will say though, as a Bleach fan back in the day, watching Toriko 'replace' it and be higher in the TOC while never reaching its level (while Bleach remained almost exclusively in the bottom five and outperformed it) definitely made me feel like it didn't deserve it at the time. In hindsight it wasn't a bad idea to promote it but I don't think it got the results they intended both in terms of sales and overall buzz.
I'd actually say Toriko. Samurai 8 pushing was half-dead at like chapter 15, while we've had Toriko being placed at the same level as Goku and Luffy in every media possible an era where Naruto and Bleach were still selling a lot.

I think length-number of volumes-wise, Toriko has been one of worst Jump performers ever. I mean, it sold 20 million copies with +40 volumes. For comparison, My Hero Academia is on 28 million copies with 28 volumes.
The only manga I can think now that have performed or are performing worse than Toriko if you have in account the number of volumes and the number of copies in circulation would be Black Clover and Beelzebub.
Toriko at least had a back up with its sales, and "replacing" bleach was at the moment it was selling relatively well iirc. But s8 was from the get go, solely because of who was behind the series. I'd say both got different kind of pushes.
There's been an update to our forum rules to broaden crediting/sourcing to all series news/announcement, etc. Please read HERE
