I won’t be as upset if toei gets it if this series is more aimed at kids. I have nothing to base this on other than the character art so far, but it seems like Shima is going less dark this go around. But, we’ll see if that’s actually the case.

Speaking of Toriko's mangaka.

I have seen out there some nothing positive about his return because of what he did at a certain point in his life. Although I am TOTALLY and DEEPLY against such practices that constitute, in fact, crimes, I also believe in the reintegration of people.
I do not believe that a person who has already paid for his crime has to listen his whole life or be treated as if he continues to commit such a crime or has not been held responsible for it.

Each case is a case. But this one in particular seems remediable to me.

Except the details of the case are far more complex than the simplistic portrayal often parroted online.
Shima proclaims ignorance the sex worker was underaged and that she was booked through an agency. Some bring up the fact that it happened twice as an argument against Shima's credibility, however I think it could have more to say about these agencies and how they hire/vette their workers and more aggressively go after involuntary sex trafficking within Japan.

Not to mention, this happened close to two decades ago and Shima hasn't been in trouble since so I don't see the point for all this grandstanding regarding his rehabilitation and reintegration. .

He published Toriko for 8 years, from 2008 to 2016, got anime, movie, crossovers with OP and DB, two of the biggest franchise in history, he has been back on SJ for over a decade and also published other one shots in the last 4 years, his mistake is something from pratically 20 years ago and paid for it, he's a perfectly decent guy since then and everybody knows it, there is nothing to "try and be tolerable" about it because there's nothing wrong or off about him returning, at the most is just some few people that started to read manga yesterday or something that is acting surprised and trying to turn this into something negative.

Until I see evidence that Shimabu knew the prostitute’s age, I’m not going to condemn him.

If he honestly didn’t know her age, then all he did was (try to) hire a prostitute, which I feel should be decriminalized anyway.

I have several friends in real life that are sex workers, so this issue hits particularly close to home for me.

Yeah from all that I've read, Shimabu didn't know the age.
If that's true, and that's what I'm believing right now given all the evidence pointing to that, then he's not at fault.

If it comes out at a later stage that he in fact knew the age and still chose to do it, then we can all condemn and/or boycott his work or whatnot at that point.

Exact. And that's why I wanted to leave my opinion. Because people for a few years have become too radical in their opinions. Either it is white or it is black, as if there were not an infinity of colors between them.

And it doesn't seem fair to me to compare cases.

I totally forgot to mention it before but this is Jujutsu Kaisen's backlog for the 7th on Shoseki. Kimetsu no Yaiba's backlog is only going to be restocked tomorrow and this is on Saturday so after the episode aired gave it a nice boost.

One thing I was thinking could be fun in a few weeks is a poll for "Best cancelled WSJ manga of 2020", see what's most liked here in retrospect from Zipman, Guardian, Ghost Writer, Bone, and Moriking if it ends by issue #52.

Could maybe throw in Samurai 8 and Mitama too since a large portion of their run was in 2020 but they lasted past ch 40 so they feel a bit different.

For a kids series, Takeshi was surprisingly quite violent with some of the fights I've seen from raws (not to the extent of Toriko)

I believe that since the broadcast of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime the door has been opened for said manga to start selling more than the already consolidated Boku no Hero Academia from now on, in my opinion.

Build King could be aimed for kids but still wouldn’t be surprised if Shima has darker elements planned for the series itself if he remains adamant on world building being a huge part of it as it was with Toriko.

I mean...is it fair to say that any Shonen Jump series is a "kids" series? There already is a children's manga demographic with stuff like Corocoro. And Shonen is it's own demographic after Children's manga.
