I guess they still need to hype One Piece for ~5 years, while Kimetsu is already over, lol. Anyway, as a huge OP fanboy, I was really hoping they would make Kimetsu break the record. Now that'll only incite drama and unecessary competition between the fandoms. Siiigh.

Why anyone really bother about if Yaiba's first print is bigger or lower than One Piece? Isnt like a single penny of it will come to anyone's pocket, so why is so important for Yaiba to break a printing record from OP?

Kimetsu no Yaiba's recent volumes sell better than One Piece's at the series peak so a bigger first print was necessary, but they decided to give that amount and order reprints instead of giving it a first print of over 4 million.

Eh? I don't think anyone ever implied WSJ does not like Kimetsu's success. Why would they hate it? They get the money from it. Watch them continue to milk this franchise for the next decade. This is the most volumes they've sold in a year, probably ever.

How is purposefully tanking a volume's first print so much so that you're planning a reprint after a week one month in advance to protect a 9 year old record not a shitty practice?

I could spin the argument and just say that you just don't want to see OP dethroned [by KNY], but the truth is that all of its records have already fallen and shueisha just chose to remain stuck in the past to protect the only record they had any control over. It's just the sillyness of the situation to watch shueisha deny an obvious record breaking situation, it could be any series and it would still be just as stupid
