Wait. Are you telling me that Ghibli stans went out to rewatch Spirited Away just so KnY wouldn’t touch it? :XD
Nope the reruns happened before Kimetsu was in cinemas (June-August), they are just adding it now though why it was added when Kimetsu was literally 3-5 days away from breaking the record is best left for the conspiracy theorists.

Kimetsu is sill going to pass it, the Christmas-New Year holiday season is coming up + the 4DX screenings with higher ticket prices. Even without those, it still had enough gas in it to stay in cinema for months, would have exceeded eventually

No, these screenings happened during the summer when theaters were struggling and needed movies with so many things being delayed. They have been added now.

Only change for the KnY movie is that it delays the inevitable surpass from this friday/early saturday to next weekend though, the movie has way too much steam left and is looking at a very likely 35+bln run.

It’s certainly strange timing, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if the reason why they released the earnings now is related to Kimetsu’s record. Someone at Ghibli (as well as others in the production committee) would certainly have an interest to make it seem the gap between Spirited Away and KnY is wider than people believed.

I do agree with @yadayada though, that it’s simply delaying the inevitable. Unless something happens or the govt shuts down the theaters again.

It makes sense for practical reasons to do it now.

This isn't the case here, but if the 2 movies were close, it'd pretty awkward if the new record was announced, then went back to spirited away once they added the re-release. Basically these numbers were going to be updated either way, but since a new record is about to be established, it's better to be precise before it happens than after.

Like I said, this doesn't change anything. Mugen Train is going to pass this number next week. Probably just a matter of precision once the new record is announced.

It's a real shame there is no real sales data for way back when. I'm very interested to see the numbers for veteran flops like Silent Knight Sho or Cyber Blue.

Netflix is producing a Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series.

This can either go brilliantly right...or terribly wrong. At least please keep some semblance of the original OST. It’s in the elite tier with Bleach’s for me.

If any addition is needed for YYH it would be the missing arcs Togashi planned but didn't write because the editors didn't let him. I can't see a live action of it going well for more than the 3 sacred objects arc

This gotta be just a complete reimagination of the spirit detective arc and expansion on the initial premise. That could potentially be good and worthwhile.
But no way they are going further than that, it would be way too expensive and even done well it would look completely ridiculous, just an overall terrible fit for live action.

The YuYu Hakusho LA series could def go either way, better to have moderate expectations about it

In my opinion I feel like japanese lost their taste... poor things 🤦🏻‍♂️ they like just horror, dark manga. Look the success of Kny, Aot, Tokyo ghoul and now jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsawman and phantom...
It seems they lost the interest in good battle shonen like bleach, reborn, d.gray man or toriko. It's so sad seeing these new titles selling so much. I like them, but I wouldn't spend much of my money on them.
The only jump series I would buy would be Undead, black clover and Dr. Stone at the moment

Bleach and DGM didn’t have dark and horror elements especially early in their runs? Were we reading the same manga?

Would argue that AoT, JJK, Chainsaw Man, and Tokyo Ghoul is all better than Bleach, Reborn, DGM and Toriko

With the exception of DGM (it's one of my favourite manga ever) I would argue that AoT, TG and JJK are better than Bleach, Reborn and Toriko.
