I just based it all on last year's sales + JJK doing 250k

(This is all approximate numbers that I infered/calculated from the reports. Might be a few mistake? I don't really remember)
I know, but you're forgetting to keep track of number of releases. That was with 6 volumes released, whereas this year it has only had 4 (22,23,24,25).

True, but new volumes don't sell that much. Backlogs make up a big part of its sales. But you are right, it'll be harder for BC to outsell JJK than I thought

Also, on another subject, gotta keep in mind that CanalBD only amounts for ~15% of the total market share. So we can't draw too many conclusions from their data.

Didn't know this was a thing, thanks.

Well...Eguchi was pretty much the OG Togashi in terms of hiatuses in old Jump (never got too bad but there was quite a few hiatuses for Hibari-kun's run), so much so that Eguchi blames himself for Togashi's hiatuses (don't have a link with me but it's out there). Having the last chapter end on such a sudden way made it to be one of my personal favorite....."endings" for any manga.
Also It would seem that the influx of romcoms in Jump druing that time was due to Urusei Yatsura's popularity. Romcoms really only started to appear in Jump from the 80's and onwards.
I'd say the OG hiatus author would be Terasawa. Cobra got a lot of hiatus when it was serialized

Sad that Fujimoto is gone just before the One Piece cover

That would be a waste to remake something that was already fantastic to begin with. The anime added so much to the manga and it's one of the best adaptations in this magazine tbh.
More of a waste than attempting what will probably be an over-dramatically acted, cringe inducing live action remake?
I know the anime was great doesn't mean it can't be redone to allow it to be reintroduced to a new generation.

At this point I think it's fair to say that One Piece , Dragon Ball and Kimetsu no Yaiba are the three biggest manga of all-time.

1. One Piece because it have the world record for number of sales, but also have many more volumes than #2 and #3 and we could argue that #2 and
#3 with the same amount of volumes would have more sales

2. Dragon Ball because of it's impact in the whole world

3. Kimetsu no Yaiba for how big it became in such a small time breaking every yearly record including in other medias (movie) + will most likely break the record for sales per volume.
What are the metric we measure the size of a Manga because there are so many possibilities overall impact, influence on other artist, volume sales, total sales, who has the biggest anime (with the most revenue), video game sales or even franchising. I think One Piece and Dragon Ball have to be in the top 4 but I also don't think sales and revenue completely translate into the "size" of a manga.

Depends on what the term "biggest" means.

By biggest if you're implying manga sales, then yeah One Piece, DBZ are the "biggest".

By biggest if you're implying sales, accomplishments, franchise size etc, then One Piece, DBZ, Naruto, Kimetsu are all up there.

By biggest if you're implying influence and importance, then One Piece, DBZ would still probably make the cut but you'll have to include manga from Tezuka in there above the other two because no other manga were arguably bigger in influence than his. Slam Dunk would also make the list.

So you need to be clear what exactly you mean by "biggest"

I think we can include Naruto in terms of influence and importance. The two biggest shonen mangas of this generation’s MCs are undoubtedly influenced by Naruto in one way or another, which can be seen in the way Kishi moved away from the “Goku clone” MC blueprint. Deku and Tanjiro are no doubt influenced by Naruto since you can spot similarities, either consciously or unconsciously.

I'd say the OG hiatus author would be Terasawa. Cobra got a lot of hiatus when it was serialized
Yes it's true that Post Salamander Cobra (1981 to 1984 chapters) often took hiatuses after about a batch of 20 chapters or so every year, but the interesting part is that Jump always refered to Cobra returning as a 新連載(New serialization) instead of 連載再開 (Serialization resumed)...I don't recall ever hearing why Terasawa went on those hiatuses. But with Eguchi he's said that the weekly schedule really got to him.
But goddamn...those color pages he did for Cobra at the time was insane for a weekly series...

I had say it before but I never seen Naruto/Kishimoto as influencial in the Shonen Jump, narrative wise.
Tezuka, Toriyama , Watsuki, Togashi and Kuramada are the biggest influencer in the shonen Jump scene.
Then I see Hiroshi Motomiya, Go Nagai, Kubo , Oda and Borunson as big influencer but not the biggest.

Although I agree that Naruto is extremely influential, I feel like it gets too much credit for influencing the “underdog” or “outcasted” character type, since that’s kind of a writing troupe in general

I think that rather than influencing it, it’s most fitting to say that Naruto instead helped to popularize the underdog trope (plus many more tropes) IMO. Tho this is just me talking out of my @ss so yeah :P

I think Naruto was pretty influential, sometimes in ways that aren't so obvious. For example, I think it made shonen manga a lot more introspective and philosophical than they used to be. I don't know if invented it, but it definitely popularized the idea of every other character having his backstory and motivations explored, even the villains. That's a staple of the genre now, but you didn't really see it in Dragon Ball and the like.

This. I’ve been saying something along the same lines, but you put it in a better way than I did. Out of all Naruto’s achievements, this legacy is the most important of them all.

Matsuura on Sabo? That’d be interesting to see his take.

It's fun to see where the older series have influenced the newer generation, The Big 3 especially. Naruto is obvious in My Hero Academia and Black Clover and with One Piece it feels more like those who came up through Nobuhiro Watsuki (like Toriko/Build King) otherwise I can't think of many that capture that exact vibe/feel of adventure.

Probably because I know the series inside out and back to front but I definitely see a lot of Bleach all over the hits from the 2010's (especially JJK and Demon Slayer), which matches with what has been said in interviews:

Jujutsu Kaisen
Q: Teacher's (Gege) lines & skill names have impressive personality & impact. Is there any reference when choosing a language?
A: Please read "BLEACH"!!

Demon Slayer

https://w.atwiki.jp/kimetsunoyaiba/pages/64.html
“There are too many [manga] to count, but if I had to choose the top three, they’d be Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Naruto and Bleach.” And there's apparently mention of the Gotei 13 being brought up a lot in editor meetings (which explains the Pillars)

My Hero Academia
https://edomonogatari.wordpress.com/2019/10/05/kubo-horikoshi/ (one of my favourite author-author interviews)
Horikoshi: In any event, Bleach was responsible for ingraining the power of words in me. However, my sensibilities are nowhere near as polished as yours… Which is why some people might think I’m lacking.

Black Clover

Yūki Tabata of Black Clover wrote, "It had a lot of influence on me. Kubo-sensei, serializing it for such a long time must have been a lot of work!"

I'd love to see a family tree of influence from all the generations down to now, since even Bleach very much feels reminiscent of Yu Yu Hakusho and Saint Seiya.
