I guess MASHLE and Undead Unluck really are safe. I know it’s a forgone conclusion, but seeing those two alongside the established series makes for something of a nice confirmation.

Unless it drops massively in sales, Ayakashi’s all but guaranteed a spot as well.

Mashle and Undead being included is definitely nice to see, though it still feels a bit empty. Which other series does everyone think will still be here when 2022 starts?

Every series right now is a contender for sticking around the way I see it except for Moriking and Blood Oath (even Dolphin could still grow well and find its place), but there's only 3-4 that are definitely safe (Undead, Mashle, Ayakashi Triangle, and probably Yozakura at this point since it seems to have found its place).

Also do you think we'll see more hits than 2021 this year, or less?

It’s only been nearly a year and it’s quite nice that both Mashle and UU have already found a place of their own in the magazine

Looking forward to what 2021 has in store

Also seeing those two promoted with the big boys really makes me think they're both about to get a 2nd cover in #8 and #9 for their anniversaries. I hope they do.

With undead unluck, yozakura family and the what if arc of we never learn I want to see a romance manga in Shonen jump in 2021.

Ay guys I asked roboco twitter account if they could tell us when they hit 100k circulation and they said they will :D
Did you use a translation machine for this, or are you actually qualified? If so, at what level? (N3? N2?)

Oh, wow. I guess this adds some fuel to the “Yozakura’s just been really lucky” fire. Especially since Mash and UU premiered afterwards...
Undead didn't start all that much better than Yozakura to be fair, it just grew much faster (particularly when it got the award). Honestly, in a normal year with a full magazine, I think even Undead might have been a little shaky.

Happy New Year! May we be blessed with many good and interesting manga that will become surefire hits. Or not, and the newbiebowl continues. XD

I look forward to seeing what Shueisha and other manga have in store for us this year.

Happy new year. I wish you a healthy one. One Piece will most likely reach volume 100 this year, KNY might reach 150 000 000 copies and much more nice things will happen in mangas, I'm especially very looking forward to KNY season 2 announcement and maybe an anime adaptation for the masterpiece that is Spy x Family could be great too ! :)

Considering what the message in the newspaper says, they're clearly aiming to showcase those series that have already a long-runner projection in the future. There's no point in including Yozakura when there's no sign of it reaching a crazy improvement that would let it establish itself for an even longer run than what it has now. As much as I like the series, it can only go so far, and will probably end within this year or close to the next one, having a 2 year run at most. If they really want to look to the future and advance, as the ad implies, then showcasing it as some mainstay would just be wrong.

We do not know the reviews though. For all we know UU could have gotten lots of "hey, this is interesting" reviews in its first weeks, not necessarily with first placement but 2nd or 3rd so that the editorship knew there was a potential market for it in their readership. Deadpool already made a joke about it in 3rd chapter asking if the reviews for his first chapter were so bad they had to bring out the big guns already.
All we get to see is placement in TOC and sales, the "insides" with the editor talk about their future long-runners and how the reviewers see the line-up we get no real look into. Even if we use the TOC as a guidance, we don't really know how much of that was "popularity", "editor decision" or "normal procedure" as in trying to not have two series of the same genre right next to each other.

But yeah, the first series of an unknown mangaka is always shaky at best in their first couple weeks because you cannot predict where this might go. Except ofc it would blow up in sales and views right away like it did with SxF and Kaiju No.8. With a seasoned veteran you can make predictions, sort of, with a newbie it is a journey into the unknown with an editor's approval, based on their experience, knowledge about reader taste and general feeling about the mangaka and her/his product.
