New poll is up.
Kaiju no. 8 isn't from an unknown/rookie mangaka. We do not know the reviews though. For all we know UU could have gotten lots of "hey, this is interesting" reviews in its first weeks, not necessarily with first placement but 2nd or 3rd so that the editorship knew there was a potential market for it in their readership. Deadpool already made a joke about it in 3rd chapter asking if the reviews for his first chapter were so bad they had to bring out the big guns already.
All we get to see is placement in TOC and sales, the "insides" with the editor talk about their future long-runners and how the reviewers see the line-up we get no real look into. Even if we use the TOC as a guidance, we don't really know how much of that was "popularity", "editor decision" or "normal procedure" as in trying to not have two series of the same genre right next to each other.
But yeah, the first series of an unknown mangaka is always shaky at best in their first couple weeks because you cannot predict where this might go. Except ofc it would blow up in sales and views right away like it did with SxF and Kaiju No.8. With a seasoned veteran you can make predictions, sort of, with a newbie it is a journey into the unknown with an editor's approval, based on their experience, knowledge about reader taste and general feeling about the mangaka and her/his product.
It’s now off topic to discuss Jump+ series in here. If you (or anyone else) wish to continue discussing this particular point, please do so in the Jump+ thread.Kaiju no. 8 isn't from an unknown/rookie mangaka.

This guy said it was restocked but went out of stock again in 30 minutes LMAOBeing cautious but is good to see Yozakura #6 being alongside Jujutsu Kaisen #14 the only January series out of stock on Amazon 2 days before release, hoping that is a actual good sign and not a site's problem![]()
Aldini Sanji is looking great.
