So, because he was seen at a BLM march that means what exactly? It means nothing.

What we saw were violent loonies, nazis, other kinds of rightwingers and general nutjobs storming capitol hill and trying to reach the politicians inside it. Trying to disrupt one of the most important traditions in the US. Trying to coup, overturning the election for Trump, who incited this kind of violence (along with other republicans that spurred these people on).

That is what we saw. Trying to pin that on antifa is completely absurd.

No, its Trump supporters and republicans fucking up. And they are going to have to take the blame, at least some of them. We can see how the republicans wanna purge themselves off trump rn because he became too unhinged even for them.

A mild possibility? I just checked some stuff about the senate again, and now I understand that the VP has the tie breaking vote in the senate. But to do all of what you mentioned, wouldn’t that mean Pence would have to vote, not Harris? We all know the GOP are Trump’s pets at this point.

In this case you'd need republicans to vote against trump specifically. About 12 of them iirc as you need over 60% of the vote for this. I was wondering this mostly because trump basically threw the lunatics also at republican senators and congressmen. They are probably not happy about their lives being pointlessly endangered. But yeah, this is still a pretty huge stretch.

If they get rid of him themselves right now and curb him, they will probably be forgiven by new voter groups they could shoot for. But if they keep trump around and he keeps hurting them and messing with their primaries, they are in serious trouble. I think this is the end of trump's influence.

It's hard to say what political calculations they are going to do... But at least IMO if they want a chance at purging trump, and perhaps trumpism, from the party then they have to at least condemn and reject it in the strongest possible terms as quickly as possible. Mostly because this is the only chance they have. Two weeks from now trump will stop being president. But meanwhile he will tell his supporters this whole thing lacks legitimacy. That the election was stolen which also comes with the nugget that every republican who didn't side with trump is a traitor to the trumpublic... Once trump leaves the office the most republicans can do to him is say mean things to him on twitter. Trump could get arrested for a number of things but republicans shouldn't rely on or expect that.

Thinking about it, there’s no way they’ll ever invoke the 25th or even impeach him, because this basically means political suicide for every single GOP operative who supported the orange tub of lard.

In all honesty, i think this is the real beginning of the end for trump.

In a reality in which trump played along some rules, he could have been the fun old uncle who gets people excited for gop elections and can bask in supporters cheering him on. But Trump was not able to do that for one reason for another.

In this reality, he can pull off toxicity and hurt the gop, but I think his influence will decline over time. When he is out of office, banned on all social media and the established media similarly stop reporting (because both fox and cnn do not like what he does), his only option is his own news channel. Whether he can really pull that off, we will see, but it certainly wont have the reach he has now.

BUT: While I think this is the end of trump, it might be the beginning of the loonies forming and marching. Just because trump is gone, they wont disappear. Polls suggest at least a fifth of the country supports what happened there. Trump is not the only grifter who would be willing to abuse that.

I don't think this is the end of Trump unless a louder, more charismatic bigot appears or Trump swings more left wing. His popularity will remain for a long time, and he can pass it on to his kids as well, as long as they parrot his spoken views and saying offensive things. Trump gave himself an immense advantage and longevity by continuously portraying sources criticizing him as fake and at least, trying to carry out his promises.

He may be banned on social media (I doubt it'll be for long anyway), but there are other sources and even Parler that'll help him.
