I love One Piece, and enjoy Wano at its core.

My main issue with One Piece(post time skip) though is the paneling, and pacing.

I wouldn’t have an issue with the subplots and there being so many characters if the series was just paneled the same way it was paneled pre time. Where it doesn’t feel like Oda is trying to scrunch 3 pages into 1 page.
And I preferred the pacing when we spent the majority of a chapter one subplot, instead of jumping across 3 different plotlines in one chapter.

Sometimes I completely forget what happens in the previous week’s chapter because just so much stuff happens in a single chapter. So I agree with Mammo when they say that it’s a much more enjoyable story when you binge a collection of chapters, rather than reading week by week.

I understand the Oda wants to hurry up and get to end now though. Because paneling, and pacing the series “normally” would mean that it would take much longer to get through everything. But the series as it stands can be such a slog to get through

I think One Piece has always been good, if Oda was able to be constantly in his prime and anime wasn't long running then it could've shown how its peak fiction but due to the fact that Oda is human and the years it started it faces some faults

Can MASHLE's power system get any more generic? After a universal "second form" power-up we get people´s wands turning into weapons (named after gods for some reason) that allow them to use even more powerful magic. I guess there's some appeal to the chuuni-ness of it, but I've lost hope on this series doing anything interesting with its power system.

Robo-ko had a great chapter this week. The premise was delightfully silly and the reference this time enhanced the punchline a lot. Referencial humour can feel forced a lot of the time, but when it fits naturally into the story it can give really funny results.

As some have already said, this week's chapter of SAKAMOTO DAYS was probably the best so far. Really cool and interesting situation that wil hopefully lead to a cool fight next issue. The series' biggest weakpoint is its title character: he´s kind of one note, even if sometimes funny. This has me a bit worried about the series future, but it will be fine if Suzuki keeps drawing chapters like this. I´m really interested in how the first volume will perform, whenever that comes out.

OP is just too big of a story to only focus to certain events for a stretch of chapters. You can't have a Yonko without tens of high ranking underlings that Oda should showcase. Likewise you can't go against a Yonko without having a big supporting cast behind. People should realize that OP can't be written with simply the straw hats being around and the focus. 10 guys can't bring down empires.

Matsui and AssClass were trending on JP twitter

don't know why Shinohara closed his twitter, but he should re-open it, Astra was pretty popular online even years after its ends giving it awards and an anime

in other news, they printed the baseball manga author real name instead of his pen name kek

let's go little guy, I'm cheering for you underdog-kun

Low key disappointed with Mashle's power system but then again, it's not a series that was known for originality I guess.
Still enjoyed the chapter, nonetheless. Mashle is a prime example of how generic can still be a lot of fun (talking about the power system and some other aspects).

From what I've read this week;
JJK>Mashle=Sakamoto Days>MHA>Phantom Seer

I've yet to read Build King's new chapter tho I'm caught up otherwise and I need to catch up on Magu / Cop and Dolphin / One Piece / HSF.
Getting behind again on my manga.

I’m not complaining about the actual things Oda presents. I think the story in itself is still great.

I’m simply saying the way it’s paced and paneled is weird, and it always feels like Oda is cramped 3 chapters into one, with how much stuff happens in a single chapter.

On one end I understand Oda is trying his best to do this so the story can end in 5 years instead of him working on this another 10+ years. But I think it makes the pacing and paneling far less enjoyable than pre timeskip

As much as I love mashle, it definitely seems like the author is asspulling most powerups and then he's barely trying to form a power system out of those powerups, and even though it looks cool now, I'm worried that i'll become stupid later on.

At least we dont need to worry about mash since he doesn't have any magic

I get the impression Mashle was maybe originally meant to stay mainly gag-focused like the first few chapters with occasional serious arcs (like Takeshi-kun or Gintama until its last few years) but has switched to mostly action after it proving more popular. So now it has to build up a full power system that maybe was just vague plans at first, as well as keep coming up with more fighting-orientated plots.

It's an interesting contrast to Undead which feels like it has a ton of stuff planned out well in advance but sometimes has trouble building up to and revealing it with important moments weirdly rushed.

Another thing I've noticed is the new upcoming batch of series doesn't look like there'll be any full battle shounen. Both the veterans' series could be about fighting, but neither Matsui or Shinohara seem the type to do one judging from their previous series, they both tend to focus on character drama with some action as it goes on rather than focusing heavily on it (I guess Neuro did become a battle shounen of sorts eventually but not until quite late in). Usually a batch this large would have at least 1 dedicated battle shounen.

I wonder if Jump's satisfied enough with the remaining hits mostly being fighting in addition to Mashle, Undead, and now Yozakura doing well that they'll be focusing on trying to gets hits from other genres for a while.

I also think myself that some parts are rushed. Oden's flashback should have been longer for example, Oda should have developed Kid and Killer more in Wano instead of a couple of chapters. Though having too much content is expected given the amount of character and plot points.

With the plot of Matsui’s series being “a prince who runs away from home”, and the main character having a sword tied to his back in the preview image, I can’t imagine that it won’t be an action/adventure series at least on some degree

Yeah, we can definitely expect some action.

I wonder if this is the series that Nak mentioned, during Jump Festa, being very different (I'm paraphrasing).

Mashle definitely feels like it was originally envisioned as a mostly gag series with some seriousness thrown in between, now it looks like Komoto is trying to balance them at the same time

Regarding the new series IMO, Matsui’s can definitely at least have some action aspect given its historical setting, Witch Watch meanwhile will most likely be more SoL based, kinda like Magu-chan.

I trust Matsui on delivering something new and different. He's always been really good at that. It probably won´t be as big of a hit as AssClass, but I think he has it in him to get a third success in a row.

I would love for Shinohara to have another success too (SKET Dance is one of my favourite series ever), but what little we know so far has me nervous. Witch Watch looks kind of generic and uninteresting, a typical boy meets magical girl story. We'll see, but my expectations are low.

Aiterushi looks intriguing, but I don´t have too much faith in the author judging from previous works. On the other hand, knowing Jump, Ball Parade will be a straightforward spokkon, so it will live or die in its art and character chemestry.

Yeah, you can tell the difference between early Mashle and current. Early Mashle relied HEAVILY on gags with some action thrown in. These days, it's pretty much 50%-50% on action/gag in regular chapters and about 90% action -10% gag in action centric chapters.

Guess the cooler action panels and just the general "hype" moments got better receptions overall.

Assuming we get a cancelation for every new series, which are the other contenders

Cop and Dolphin, HSF, Magu chan (despite just getting a CP).

Nak would be the dumbest person on the planet to cancel Phantom Seer.
