Hmm I actually liked Witch watch chapter 2, maybe even more than the first.
In my top 5 this week. Potentially top 3

Kowloon's ending felt somewhat hasty for its conclusion though I enjoyed it enough.
Also liking this Build King arc, probably cause it's featuring less of the protagonist.
I tell C is also pretty good right now, hoping the next chapters have an actual mystery to the murder though

If Attack on Titan’s final season isn’t killing Jujutsu Kaiser’s hype, I can’t see why Demon Slayer would kill Chainsaw Man’s hype. It’s not like they’re a movie releasing the same day; given that ppl typically don’t see 2 movies back to back, and sometimes only go to theaters once eve month or 2.
People tend to watch multiple anime a season. ppl will just watch Demon Slayer whatever day and time it airs, then watch Chainsaw Man whatever day and time it airs

I wonder if the first chapters of I tell c caused some controversy in Japan? The panel where the girl states she's not endorsing crime seems like a direct message to the public and I think I've seen TPGW do the same exposition about plagiarism.

Yozakura was alright, standard action chapter, didn't do anything for me

Undead was pretty good, I'm surprised at how quickly Rip is growing on me after not feeling much towards him after his original appearance

Mashle was good, Mash's line at the end might be my favorite of his so far

Ayakashi was also good, not a big fan of reincarnation plotlines but the backstory was solid

Magu was about as good as usual, again not a super funny chapter but it was at least cute

Dolphin was pretty good, now that it's been telling a focused story focused on the ocean mysteries rather than aimless episodic chapters I've been enjoying it a lot more. Kinda just waiting for it to get axed though

Roboco was also as good as usual, not a lot to say

Phantom had a solid chapter, nice to see a chapter focused on the supporting cast

HSF was a bit on the weaker side this week, but not bad

Build King wasn't very interesting, this round of the exam seemed to have potential but everyone kinda just acing it was boring. Hopefully it improves in the next few chapters as it's starting to loose me, and I liked the upside-down castle arc decently enough

Sakamoto was pretty good, good action and the last two pages were incredible

Samurai was alright, first chapter I sort of didn't like, felt a bit repetitive and exposition heavy, but still enjoyable. Hoping for a plotline to start up soon

I have mixed feelings for I tell c. On one hand, the way the case was solved wasn't very interesting at all, and parts of the chapter could probably be rearranged. On the other hand, I like the dynamic set up between Aioi and the detective, and I think I have a better idea of what Aioi's character is going to be. Based off the last page, looks like this wraps up the intro, so hopefully it goes somewhere interesting from here

Witch was good, I liked it but not as much as the first chapter. I like the two's dynamic and how they play off each other, but nothing really of note happened this chapter

Kowloon did feel a bit on the generic side, but it was still wholly enjoyable. It may be to being the only sport series in the magazine but it was refreshing to read. I like the two main characters and I'm interested to see where it goes from here

All the veterans had good chapters this week, especially One Piece and JJK

This might be my favorite round of new series in quite a while, all of them have started off pretty solid and I look forward to their next chapters. Helping this is the fact that two authors I'm found of have returned, and the genre variety among the four is very diverse. Historical/Action, Detective/Mystery, Romance/SoL, and Sports all make for a varied and interesting set of newbies, certainly better than more gag and exorcist series. If I had to rank them I'd say

Witch Watch> Elusive Samurai> Kowloon's Ball Parade> I tell c

For what I'm seeing, Kowloon's Ball Parade is getting a better reception than expected, but is really too soon to say anything.

For me, this round, regarding just chapter 1 would be:
Witch Watch > I Tell C > Kowloon's Ball Parade > Nige Jozu

Nine Dragon's Ball Parade chp 1 had me smiling so hard. Such a wonderful opening chapter that subverted expectations in a good way. And Ryudo and Azu are this years power couple, so much trust and faith in each other and their blushing, awwwwwwwww. Is there anything sweeter than boys and baseball?

Strongest chapter 1 hands down no questions asked.

Witch Watch improved but the romance should be halved and the humor should be increased.

Elusive Samurai and I Tell C are the weakest of the group,.

Fantastic week overall, probably the best batch of chapters since spring 2020 when Haikyuu!!, Demon Slayer, and The Promised Neverland were all running.

Me & Roboco is thankfully back at its best this week with a valentine's chapter that manages to bring the most hilarity out of most of the main and supporting cast. This chapter managed to get one or two laughs a page out of me. My low expectations for Nine Dragons' Ball Parade turned out to be for the best because this was my favourite chapter of the new batch so far. It's a good example of a template premise executed very well - though the main character's personality is quite different, and I like how his analytical way of thinking affects the rest of the exposition in a way that doesn't feel forced. The main duo work well so far, and it was a nice first chapter with a great ending. Been waiting for a sports manga back in WSJ since my all-time-favourite Haikyuu!! ended so I'm glad this first chapter connected with me.

Other than that there was so much great stuff this week. Sakamoto Days had its best chapter yet, the sketched art page and the final page were just bonkers. Jujutsu Kaisen has me hooked again with the beginning of this new arc, interested in all these developments. My Hero Academia, while not as exciting as recently, is doing a good job with this flashback, and Undead Unluck is back to tugging heart string while delivering some super cool double spreads. Some other standaouts are High School Family and Ayakashi Triangle; the former which had maybe It's funniest chapter yet thanks to the parents being the best characters, while Ayakashi Triangle delivered a shockingly emotional flashback void of fanservice, I'd also say it was best chapter of the series so far.

Even though I'd ranked them lower in order of how much I enjoyed them compared to others, there were plenty of others really good chapters. Mashle did a nice job carrying on the excitement from last week. Mission: Yozakura Family had a sick chapter this week with those action moments delivered on their impact. Phantom Seer initially had me worried but a mixture of great creepy art and spotlight on the supporting characters made this chapter feel more refreshing. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin feels like its pushing towards the end but this chapter was undeniably cool as hell. And even Black Clover delivered on what I wanted it to do, it just didn't stack up to the rest of the excellent developments this week.

I'd say my take on the most recent batch at the moment is: I'm enjoying The Elusive Samurai way more than I thought I would, this chapter again has me excited again for where the series will go; i tell c is getting slightly more enjoyable each week but still nothing special and I'm wondering how long before the main character's personality quirk gets tiring; WITCH WATCH needs to go to the school setting soon and expand its cast/world because this second chapter did little for me; and Nine Dragons' is off to a strong start and is filling that spokon sport very nicely.

On real dud this week was Build King. To quote random character #12: "What a ridiculous test."

Lots of great chapters - here's my ranking of them compared to last week:
  1. (+4) Me & Roboco
  2. ( - ) Nine Dragons' Ball Parade (NEW)
  3. ( - ) Sakamoto Days
  4. ( - ) Jujutsu Kaisen
  5. (-4) My Hero Academia
  6. (+5) Undead Unluck
  7. (-5) One Piece
  8. (-4) The Elusive Samurai
  9. (+1) High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku
  10. (+5) Ayakashi Triangle
  11. (-5) Mashle
  12. (-4) Mission: Yozakura Family
  13. (+1) Phantom Seer
  14. (-7) Black Clover
  15. (+1) Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin
  16. (-4) i tell c
  17. (-8) WITCH WATCH
  18. (-1) Magu-chan: God of Destruction
  19. (-1) Dr. Stone
  20. (-4) Build King
I wonder if the first chapters of I tell c caused some controversy in Japan? The panel where the girl states she's not endorsing crime seems like a direct message to the public and I think I've seen TPGW do the same exposition about plagiarism.
This third chapter of i tell c would have already been fully drafted/completed by the time the initial chapter came out. We don't know exactly but you probably won't see reader feedback directly affecting the chapters until closer to the chapter 7/8 point depending how many weeks ahead their production schedule is.

So I've been reading and now I've seen 2 or 3 people say Kowloons art was underwhelming...??? It was soo good wdym?? I enjoyed it thoroughly, even though I have a bias as i LOVE HISTORY, but this sport manga was way better than elusive samurai, best Manga out of the batch easily, witch watch is the worst

REALLY enjoyed Kowloon, definitely my favorite first chapter of the new batch and really hoping this one sticks around, the main duo are interesting and likeable, and the art is slick and really sells the baseball segments. Fingers crossed for it. Pretty good issue overall, MHA, JJK and UU were probably the other highlights for me. I Tell C is definitely maintaining my interest the most of the newbies with multiple chapters, but I'm still enjoying Samurai as well.

I tell C: I quite like it. Wrap up the prolonge with establishing character dynamic. I don't think the mystery matter much in these chapters since it mainly about establish the characters.
Magu: At this rate each cast member gonna get a god. Still nice and enjoyable
Elusive Samurai: Kinda boring to be honest. gonna drop it now.
Witch Watch: The 2 main characters still pretty boring.
Yozakura Family: Nice fighting chapter and character showing.
Kowloon: Good characters work and proper motivation, make the readers sympathy with the protags without been too dramatic.

I was so stoked for a spokon after so long but reading through Kowloon’s first chapter and all I can think is, they shouldn’t have cancelled Ole Golazo. Really disappointed here.

Sakamoto Days is becoming among my favorites in the magazine, along side MHA and JJK.

Nine Dragons had a pretty nice first chapter. Can’t complain. Interested in reading the next.

Honestly can’t get into I Tell C. It’s not particular bad, but I still don’t think it’s doing anything well either.

Don’t really have anything noteworthy to say about everything else. Everything was pretty standard and gave around the same level of quality they usually give

Jump chapters have really been strong the past few weeks, the current arcs in Jujutsu kaisen, MHA, One piece, BC are keeping hype levels high. All the newer series all putting in good work too!

Also i have a question if anyone knows. Do you think s2 for Kimestu will skip over the content from the movie completely? U.K dude so I’m still in wait 😔

Ball Parade was pretty good and I'm glad it didn't treat you like a 5yo who has never heard of the sport before like most jump sports flops do, but I don't know if the premise stands out enough to survive. It was just the intro though and it seems like we'll see the real premise next week, so I think think it has decent promise.

I don't know how I'd rate it with the first chapters of the other new series though, I thought Elusive Samurai's first chapter was terrible but I think I like the other 3 about the same (all were pretty good but nothing striking or stand-out).

These last chapters of Ayakashi only make me wish that Yuuna-san was still in the magazine or at least a real ecchi

Now that all the new series have debuted, it is the first time I can rank a full magazine from top to bottom. Let's see if this week's ranking holds some surprise:

1. Ayakashi Triangle: Holy cow that's a shocking suprise already! Perennial bottom-ranked impressed me so much to gain the title of chapter of the week. It tells a lovely, bittersweet story that gave me Inuyasha vibes and is suited for Valentine mood more than any Valentine themed chapter from other series. The fanservice reduced to a bare minimum also helped a lot.
2. Hard-boiled Cop and Dolphin:
Despite almost certainly being gone by the next round I do think that Hard-boiled Cop and Dolphin will actually work really nice as a short series.
I think this too and it feels like a little consolation prize. While it looks like a final arc, it doesn't look like it is rushed so it can at least end with dignity. Cool display of power this week and a fight for which I can't predict the outcome scheduled for the next. Never give up!
3. Undead Unluck: I never cared for Rip as a character, now I do. This is what defines true ability as a writer.
4. Nine Dragons' Ball Parade: I'm with all those positively surprised by this first chapter. The premise is nothing original, but is well narrated and you end up sympathizing for the main duo and rooting for them at the end. Only small remark is: if he knows about that high school so much, why doesn't he know that people like him won't be chosen anyway? Let's hope it sticks around at least for a little while.
5. Sakamoto Days: Always a good read. We probably needed an opponent capable to put our Sakamoto in trouble. And now it's payback time!
6. Dr. Stone: We are ready to put the science stuff away for a while because a new fight of the smartest is starting! I am ready for Stone wars: Brazil edition.
7. Mission: Yozakura Family: We're in Soul Society mode and I predict everyone will pull off his/her Bankai during this arc. I don't complain if we get chapters this cool in return.
8. One Piece: We're back to confusionary paneling with multiple scenes to follow in one chapter, but it's not bad here because it felt like something is moving anyway. It's time to cut off the loose threads so we can concentrate to the big match over there.
9. Mashle: A good chapter that concludes the first round and sets up a new enemy while you feel sorry for the new friend. Certainly a better exam arc than Build King.
10. My Hero Academia: An chapter that doesn't really tell anything we didn't know but it can be the setup for great things to come.
11. Magu-chan: God of Destruction: Now everyone has his/her Pokémon! I liked how Magu proved his superiority at the beginning, sometimes you forget he is the freakin' God of Destruction.
12. Jujutsu Kaisen: I have to thank the anime because it recently refreshed my memory about some informations that were useful to understand better this chapter. Apart from that, a plain exposition chapter that is still important because there's no payoff without a proper setup.
13. High-school Family: Funny chapter, it took its time but now I start to enjoy the jokes. Although today's best joke was a comment from Mangaplus: "Hot Blooded Cow and Dolphin".
14. Me & Roboco: Still a bit undertone for me, but it had its nice jokes here and there. Best of the week: even the evil side of Gachi-Gorilla is good.
15. Phantom Seer: I think I should give it some credit because it gave focus at two side characters, that is always a good idea when you want to stick for a long time.
16. i tell c: What drives me to read it now is discovering what it will pull off to make the main duo even more unlikeable.
17. Black Clover: Yep, it is Asta. I am afraid I don't like the main character and his deus ex-machina abilities. I would love for the current situation to be solved by anyone but him, but unfortunately it wil be him.
18. Witch Watch: Undertone second chapter, even if I liked the first one a lot. We need new characters, asap!
19. The Elusive Samurai: It's a pity that three of the four new series are ranked so low. The creepy priest is too creepy to be a good sidekick, and I still think that the main character got over his losses pretty fast. Maybe it was a common thing in feudal Japan.
20. Build King: ToC ruined this for me, now I can't enjoy it anymore. The first trial should be a good chance to estabilish interesting characters, instead they all passed the test (which had everyone failing in the last 10 years) almost off-screen. Don't you want to be saved, o Build King?

for a person that doesn't care about baseball, I thoroughly enjoyed KBP
pretty generic set up but it was executed well with some changes here and there
the cover and color spread were misleading since neither mcs joined Hakuo
I wonder if they're going the Giant Killing route and focus more on coaching

this batch is 4/4 for me (so far)
