I'll write my full impressions later but I'll say that Kowloon Ball Parade is really surprising me by how well it is setting up the main story and characters with a much better pacing than the three other manga in its batch, despite it being the only one from a newbie.

I feel like newbies are coming in with more power than veterans: MASHLE, Undead Unluck, Phantom Seer(Writer), Kowloons(writer), and Sakamoto days

Mashle with such a hype chapter for its anniversary, loving it. Yozakura had more fighting, looking forward how it gets resolved. Phantom Seer has been improving really with this arc, also good on it getting another reprint. Cop and Dolphin was also nice. Sakamoto Days was so fun and liking the setup we had.

I think this Elusive Samurai’s best chapter thus far, liked it mostly cause of the characters interactions. Witch Watch is also very fun, we now introducing new characters which is always nice. I tell C is worth reading cause of the FMC, tho I’m interested on the background for the characters. Kowloon is thus far nailing its tropes nicely, the setup here has me hooked.

My Jump Issue 13 Rankings

Great: Nine Dragons' Ball Parade

Good: Mashle, OP, MHA, JJK, Dr. Stone, Yozakura Fam, UU, Sakamoto Days, Phantom Seer

Average: i tell c, Ayakashi Triangle, Magu-chan

Meh: Roboco, Witch Watch, Elusive Samurai, Cop & Dolphin, Build King, HS Family

Yikes:

-I shit on NDBP last week but I loved this chapter. Really has me hyped now
-I tell c is the same thing every chapter (crazy girl, guy wants to save, mention dead dad)

1. Sakamoto Days: I nominate this chapter of the week (for the first time), but I feel like the first 3 entries are all really close. In this case, what I liked most is that a lot of stuff happened in a single chapter: arc resolution, foes turned friends, investigation, and setup for the next arc, all at once. We also discovered that Sakamoto can keep his slim form and converse casually while in it.
2. My Hero Academia: After a couple of important yet lackluster chapters, this one was good and I felt the emotions that it wanted to deliver. We also get to see how the students aredoing, they often seem kind of left out with current developments.
3. Undead Unluck: The arc is wrapped up and we are ready to move to the next stage. It seems that next week we'll have a very interesting interlude.
4. Me & Roboco: I found it funny again after a couple of subpar chapters. Loved the color page and the time travel story. I didn't find the reference of the week particularly funny, which is good, because it means it can make me laugh without recurring to them.
5. Mashle: The Finn moment we all wanted to see, he even shows his true power! Thank you for reminding us the power of friendship, now you can let the big guys take the stage.
6. One Piece: Ranked high just because it didn't jump constantly from one scene to another but it focused on a single story instead. I also liked how Sanji discarded any unnecessary pride and how we will have an occasion for some other, usually marginal characters to have their big fight (hoping they don't get interrupted or something).
7. Dr. Stone: Less science, more strategy war is the key to an enjoyable chapter of Dr. Stone! I love how characters admit with no shame that would be easily defeated in scenarios where other Jump heroes would recklessly dive in and win by sheer willpower.
8. Jujutsu Kaisen: The big dogs are already fighting at the beginning of the new arc! I suppose we are in for a big ride, but we are still in an early phase so let's see how it will develop.
9. Hard-boiled cop and Dolphin: I don't know if I am the only one left that still likes Tamura humour, anyway I liked a lot the sudden retreat of the possessing God. It is concluding but with style, I just hope we can reach chapter 36 so I can say that it lasted more than Moriking (that should be the case, given the Mangaplus IDs).
10. Nine Dragons' Ball Parade: Seems low, but is a result of a very good week, and is the best ranked of the newbies anyway. I missed my sports manga with all its common tropes. I hope that Japan reception for this is as good as on this forum.
11. Phantom Seer: Didn't expect for him to take the hit for his minions. I hope it is a start for a character development that I can like, so that I will become able to enjoy the series. I somehow feel like I need to enjoy this, but I can't yet, although some steps have been made in that direction.
12. Mission: Yozakura Family: We are in full Bankai showcase mode. I like it, but it still feels a transitional phase of the arc, so I have to keep placing in mid-position until the big climax. Yozakura is really good with climaxes.
13. Magu-chan: the God of Destruction: Suddenly serious tone shift! For the first time I felt ending vibes from this manga (some people started to feel them earlier but I didn't take the hints seriously). It can still just mean that the author wants to put himself to test with a serious arc of sorts.
14. Witch Watch: Better than last time. We have some much needed cast additions, and being a witch wasn't the focus of this chapter. I hope it can improve after a good first chapter and an uninspired follow-up after that.
15. Highschool Family: Once again it proves to be the best Jump spokon that debuted in 2020. The gag was a bit repetitive, but overall it was a funny chapter.
16. i tell c: It probably gave up completely with the detective part of this detective manga. Now they solve the misteries like the Scooby Doo gang does, sudden inspiration and reveal after a sketchy chase scene. This may not be bad in itself, but for now it doesn't deliver much.
17. Build King: As others have said, a little improvement but maybe a little late. We also saw the debut of "standard Shimabukuro Evil Face" that is an attempt at adding a more interesting plot. By the way, how can you call yourself a genius carpenter if this is how you build bridges?
18. The Elusive Samurai: Not much to say here, so I'll use this entry to discuss Assassination Classroom. I am reading it via Mangaplus weekly re-edition. I'm 50 chapters in and I feel like nothing relevant ever happens. I am confident it will get better later on, but I can't understand how it got popular from the first chapters and was never at a risk to be axed.
19. Ayakashi Triangle: Actually not that bad of a chapter, but still too heavy on fanservice, so I can't enjoy the actual good things that come with that. It's a pity, because the story is good now.

I feel like Nine Dragon's slower and more character-driven approach is going to benefit it hugely when binge-reading the series. However, I'm hoping it still has at least one baseball game before the end of the first volume or so. I really liked what we saw in the first chapter so I hope we don't have to wait too long before seeing that again. Great chapter though, left me very excited for more.

My "problem" with Kowloon is that I keep trying to imagine from which other sports manga it is a sum of. Reminded me a bit of. Coach from Kuroko, Haikyuu's Traditional school, Hinomaru's building the club (with misfits nonetheless). But I'm liking it.

MMM: This is considered "normal" behavior of a student? This magic society is soooooo fucked up. Good on Finn to stick to his principles. Boy's growing into a real man. His big bro will be proud of him.

OP: "We know." Kek, poor Sanji and his Kryptonite - Women. XD

MHA: So dream debate next chapter? Also can someone at Hero HQ please rule Bakugo's hero name illegal for sounding too stupid, edgy and childish?

JjK: I skimmed through this chapter being like this looks cool but I feel lost. Still looks cool though plus me being lost is on me, not the series's fault.

DS: Hooooh boy, did not expect that kind of confrontation to happen! Kohaku looked amazing!

NDBP: Karin is really growing on me, girl got the same fire and passion as the other two and she is just as much a hard worker as them. Really like the mangaka's decision to dedicate each of the first three chapters to one of the three main characters, at least I assume Karin will play a similar important role like our two boys and not be forgotten a couple chapters later. Somehow reminds me a lot of Eyeshield 21 with the whole having to look for teammates and such.

M&R: Roboco's features never fail to surprise me. xD

WW: Lol, Niko seeing the harem flags a mile away and smeared her hot and cool childhood friend's image to get two possible contenders of him. I like those two, glad the whole friendship issue was handled within one chapter. They were really quick to accept Niko as a witch among them.

itc: When heart eyes are creepier than the crazy swirly eyes... o.o

MYF: Dunno, found it a bit boring tbh.

AT: Ninokuro is such a bro, cheering up his bro turned sis to not let tropes get in his way! Love how he is such an Otaku. Reo returns and she returns to stay, oh hell yeah, good choice to add her to the main school cast and not only have her be the tool maker showing up here and there. This gonna be fun with Suzu's worries about Matsuri getting taken by this quirky girl.

TES: 'kay. Can we please move on from the whole running away to making an actual opposition party please?

Magu: Story seems to pick up the pace.

UU:
Autsch, that one Rip part followed with that panel of Latla. Dang, I could feel the heartache through the screen. And man, that ending surprised me. Again a development I did not saw coming, like who would expect for hmhmhm to go straight to hmhmhm asking for black tea?!? Tough luck, girl, he's a coffee guy. :P

SD: Mom being the strongest proven! One hell of an expensive video though...

HBC&D: That's it? I expected more than that after that reveal last chapter.

PS: Same as above though without any reveal last chapter.

BK: How many more "toughest tests ever" talk will we hear in the next couple chapters? XD

HSF: Lol, dad - destroyer of memories. He's best character of the whole cast, hope he makes it into the team quickly. I wanna see the ref go mad.^^

Fun and entertaining week. :D

Mostly positive reactions on Twitter to Fukuda’s one-shot. Commenting on the creepy/horror aspects, surprised/glad to see him filling the unexpected spot from the BC break, etc.

Has the oneshot been posted anywhere?

I'm always surprised by the people here, read an ecchi manga like Ayakashi and complain about a chapter with a lot of fansevice
And i'm here complaining about the lack of it. It's too paltry and basic while the art looks too clean and not arousing enough. Maybe Saotome Shimai spoiled me.

Basically the ecchi debate for Ayakashi Triangle either puts you in one of two camps. "I'm expecting too much because this isn't Jump SQ and Yabuki actually wants to have a plot this time around" or "I don't like ecchi manga, yet here I am reading one but complaining because it has ecchi".

Personally, I think the amount of ecchi is fine. I like the story, I like the characters, and what ecchi is there is pretty good. Not every ecchi manga needs to be borderline ******.

I like Ayakashi Triangle, but I feel like it's trying to be a Yuuna-style ecchi without the ecchi that Yuuna was known for. It's mostly episodic slice-of-life, with some world-building that leads into a few serious action-oriented arcs. But it's so mild as an ecchi that what we're left with is a mostly episodic slice-of-life series with very mild comedy and very mild drama. There just isn't a lot to get excited about each week other than Yabuki's god-tier art.

Yabuki has done a successful battle shounen as well, so it's not like To Love Ru's the only thing to base expectations on.

Ayakashi Triangle to me feels like it's trying to find a good middle ground between focusing on ecchi, general romcom shenanigans, and action, instead of leaning hard to any one side. And since it seems to be working well for him so far with a strong immediate fanbase, there's not much reason to ramp up the fanservice as it goes on.
