There seems to be different ranks in the Wizard saints. We don’t know what rank Jellal was in nor do I think he was as strong as Makarov who was at fifth place before the 7 years skip
Which chapter did it indicate that Makarov was a rank 5 wizard saint in x784?
From my knowledge, Makarov was a well-known and well-respected mage among the wizard saints, I don't recall the series ever specifying Makarov's wizard saint rank number in x784.
Jellal is strong, I know that, but you overestimate him. In X784, no he wasn't on par with Makarov, even at 100%. He was Wizard Saint because like Erza, Mystogan and Laxus he had the level, but, he didn't lack of discipline (mastermind). Jellal was more Jura's tier in this period who stated to be far less than Makarov, too far to be compare with.
Injured Erza fought Jose who rivaled Makarov (without Fairy Law) who saw her as a great wizard. Laxus needed time and preparation to fight his gramp at 100% because he was afraid of him.
Like I said before, FT S-Class Wizards in x784 were all wizard saint level. Even characters like Erza Knightwalker, LFD Natsu, and Azuma were wizard saint level in x784. x784 Makarov Vs x784 Jellal is determinable by the wizard saint ranks, but by overall x784 feats. x784 Jellal > x784 Erza, he was weakened, yet fought decently against Dragon Force Natsu.
Another situation, Jellal amazed Erza fighting Midnight, as he couldn't do anything against him and didn't understand his magic, while Erza understand it, saw weaknesses and exploited them for the win.
Jellal was no where close to full power, he still had severe amnesia from the whole Tower of Heaven incident. He was barely capable in using his magic when he faced Midnight.
Yes Teams were introduced and everyone, even the lectors were thinking Erza used Second Originduring all the GmG. She released it only to finish Minerva. So, she battled and won Kagura without it, even Pandemonium. SO is not a little power up. To see the gap, see Natsu facing Max pre SO and after in the bar where he one shot him like a toy.
They still get a second origin magic power boost applied to their standard magic power level. Second origin release is an outburst amount of magic power that varies towards each person. Second origin training still significantly improved Erza's standard magic power from her x784 self, her release state into Nakagami was a full power state of second origin. She was still powered up with second origin regularly throughout the GMG, she released her complete full power of second origin against Minerva, hence the Nakagami Armor. So statement about Jura beating Erza and Mira simultaneously was still standing until Erza released Nakagami at the end of the arc. It was still stated by Mavis that Laxus was their opponent against Jura. GMG Jura was continuously stated to be strongest "human" up until Laxus beat him. Jellal posing as Mystogan against Jura put Jellal at a disadvantage with him trying to replicate Mystogan's attacks. When Jellal used his natural Heavenly Body Magic, Jura clearly had trouble keeping up with him, and the intensity of Sema was portrayed to look like a finishing attack to their battle until Ultear stepped in. GMG Jellal >> GMG Erza.
Yes Laxus pre sickness destroyed Tempester. Laxus is heavyweight striker. Tempester is nowhere close to Kyoka. This demon battled Erza in close range without Etherious form. And after she stole Seilha's remaining soul. A power up ? Hmmm, Seilha was stronger than Mirajane so, a remaining power is still a upper strength. With that, you can add Kyoka's curse which amp her stats per seconds and disminished foe's durability. Jellal can surely compete but I don't think he can win if he had trouble vs Orascion Seis, where there Magic freezed in Prison.
Jellal's speed would be way too high for Kyoka to tag and he'd end the battle quickly with Grand Chariot or Sema. Saying Jellal wouldn't be able to beat Kyoka or Seilah is like saying Jura or Laxus wouldn't be able to beat them. Jellal, Jura, and Laxus were clearly a level above Erza in x791.
The Oracion Seis aren't even pushovers like that. Members like Cobra outperformed most dragon slayers aside from Natsu, Laxus, and Gajeel against the dragons in the Eclipse Arc. Racer can somewhat keep up with Cobra, and Midnight was still strongest member at that time.
Laxus's strike was quite powerful. Enough to kill Ajeel ? I don't think so. This guy tanked Jupiter with his bare hands and needed Jupiter + Nakagami strike combo to finish him. Even so, Laxus didn't face Ajeel in 1 vs 1 like Erza did. Pure assumption, but can Laxus face Sand Wall while Erza's Wind, his weakness, didn't work anymore ? If Ajeel can grap Laxus, he can win like against Erza. Invisible and suck water form body to paralyse the ennemy. Poeple think Ajeel is waek. He is not.
Laxus nearly oneshotted Ajeel to oblivion man. August saved him and stated that Ajeel would've been a goner without his interference. Erza turned into Ajeel's counter and she still nearly died. Those results shows that Laxus >> Erza, then Laxus gets Red Lightning. Even if Laxus Vs Ajeel was an actual fight, Laxus could end him quickly with basic dragon slayer attacks or Fairy Law.
Gajeel is strong, near Natsu in same Mode. So until LFD dual Mode. No Natsu didn't use FDK. He wanted to hold his MP to face next strong opponents like Mira, Laxus and Jellal. Even without Dragon Force which is his PoF, don't count it against a friend, FDK is on another level where Gajeel can't compete with. Still, you can empty your MP without using your strongest Mode. Gajeel can't enter Dragon Force so it is useless to speak about it. Natsu and Gajeel were match in strength but with Natsu having more stamina on the final. He could continue and fight Reby where Gajeel couldn't even move to protect her. Still, Natsu continue to fight against Wraith and Makarov just after. Equal strength in same mode, but Natsu's > Gajeel in stamina and MP reserve. And a third Mode while Gajeel stayed at two.
Natsu's stamina > Gajeel's, no dispute there. Natsu started his fight with Gajeel saying that they was both going to go at each other serious. Natsu used FDK against every opponent up to that point in the 100 Years Quest, it'd make no sense to assume he didn't attempt it on Gajeel. Towards the end of the battle, Natsu said that there were still Jellal, Mira, and Laxus but he also said that he was also near out on magic power. Natsu went into BoFT2, wanting to fight and defeat everyone. If you replace Gajeel with any of the other three in that situation, the result would've been the same. Natsu was bound to secure the W after a mid/high-diff with any of the four.
Natsu got oneshotted by Wraith first encounter man, he exhausted from his battle with Gajeel. Natsu ragdolled Wraith in base when they was fighting on equal terms (both thought projections with fresh MP). Natsu used FDK on a crippled, Wraith possessed Makarov. He used FDK on Madmole, who rivaled Elfman, and who stated and shown to have the raw magic power of base Natsu. When Aldoron started acting up with his awakening, first move Natsu did was a FDK attack on Aldoron. Natsu regularly uses FDK in the 100YQ unless his opponent is weak. And considering Natsu views Gajeel as a serious high level opponent, likelihood he used FDK attacks on Gajeel. With Hiro's statement about them being equal in power along with the aftermath from Natsu and Gajeel's second fight, I'm pretty sure Fire Dragon Natsu ≈ Full Power Gajeel.
thanks for replying.
jellal was WS in the start of series, but we only saw jellal who was using thought projection vs injured erza. injured erza pretty much low diffed him (so atleast this jellal was not a ws tier). when jellal went full power, he still didnt fight erza. instead he used bind snake which he put on her when erza was hugging him.
so this definitely doesnt show jellal being above erza
we have been talking about sema in this thread.
basically what i got from it is
dragon irene can pretty much one shot erza. even then erza destroyed her deus sema.
following the above logic, anyone who can be one shotted by jellal, can pretty much handle jellal sema (eg like lyon).
in other words, jellal sema was a desperate attempt. jura would have handled it causally.
if the above is true, jura would have been low/mid diffing jellal.
so again no portrayal above erza here either.
of course here we are actually comparing pre ts erza to gmg jura and gmg jellal
this is not true. ajeel was erza counter (almost like wahl was to laxus). erza uses swords, ajeel is immune to swords. it just happens that erza had a mid tier water sword, which ajeel wasnt immune to.
jellal one shotted nienhart after erza made his historia useless.
jellal feats against acno were impressive, but not as impressive as blowing rot aconolgia across the town.
i can see where you might get jellal being slightly stronger than erza. but the manga never really showed that
x791 Jellal and Jellal's feats against Acnologia clearly shows that Jellal was on another level from Erza. RoT Dragon Acnologia was playing around, chasing exceeds, blowing up random landmarks. Erza's PoF feats against Irene doesn't correlate to Jellal's feats against Acnologia.
Jellal out sped Acnologia and barrels him in the face (

Jellal blitzed, and sent Acnologia flying away with an attack.

In x793, in the 100YQ, this is the closest Erza has been to Laxus and Jellal in power.
