Candy Flurry I think had a very well made first chapter without any real missteps, but it also doesn't really have any unique strengths either, it feels like a very safe series beyond the strange setting.

That can still work fine of course, there's always a place for safe, consistent battle shounen in Jump, but i feel like it'll need to introduce a little bit more going on for it to survive after the initial freshness of the premise runs out.

Blue Box has cute moments but the lack of any stakes makes it hard to care for it.

Clear solution would be to give the femchar a love interest that develops into something serious.

I thought Candy Flurry was meh
I wasn't interested in the setting, I didn't like the mcs duo, I didn't laugh at any of the jokes, and thought the art was poor

I think I'd would have liked it better if the art was more impactful

if you're gonna get an artist who would only do the art for a manga make sure they're great at what they do, otherwise the writer might as well just draw his work

Another great issue this week. Other than the usual bottoms dwellers for me, the only other negative I can harp on about is I just wish we got a One Piece chapter to capitalise off that fantastic chapter last week.

Great:
1. (+9) Jujutsu Kaisen - This might just be the chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen that 'clicked' and turned me into a fan. While last week's explanations were necessary and a little exhausting, after this chapter I'm loving the concept of the culling game and its narrative potential. I've always seen inspirations of Bleach throughout the series but this new arc is giving me major HxH vibes in the best way possible. Can't wait to see what happens next.
2. (-1) Blue Box - So it looks like we're going for a slower developing relationship. That's not a problem, especially if chapters are as enjoyable as this one. Again, Taiki and Chinatsu's chemistry is palpable and their interactions are adorable. Feels good to see the sports premise being fully explored as well from Taiki's point of view.
3. (+2) Dr. Stone - And so it's happened! Another great and monumental chapter. Especially liked the last few pages - very curious to see how things will play out now and how long the next time jump will be.
4. ( = ) My Hero Academia - After some strong action now we've got clarification of what Deku is up to. Enjoyed the flashback and especially the moment with Deku and his mother.
5. (+2) Undead Unluck - Great emotion paired with emotional impact, making me care for a character that five or so weeks ago wasn't that memorable to me. This Summer arc is just as strong as Autumn was for me.
6. ( = ) Sakamoto Days - Another week of me being thoroughly entertained by the hijinks of the sort as well as impressed by the art - in particular the way the invisible villain was drawn made him feel that much trickier to take down. This mini-arc we're in right now is doing all good things for its main cast.
7. (-5) Me & Roboco - What an adorable and funny little date. And that ending was even cuter. This entire cast is the best.

Good:
8. ( - ) Candy Flurry (NEW) - I was fully expecting this to be axebait from the cover artwork and previews/descriptions (and it still might be) but this first chapter was way more fun than I expected. It established a pretty wacky yet grounded power system with the 100 candies, the main girl has a pretty distinctly harsh personality that contrasts her appearance nicely, and I laughed more times than I did with some of the other comedies this issue. There are tropes and cliches aplenty but I still enjoyed how it played out as a first chapter. The character art is a little by-the-numbers admittedly, but at least the large-scale action sequences look solid.Hope it keeps up this pace and doesn't feel too cliche in its developments.
9. ( = ) Mashle - This is turning out to be a pretty thrilling fight!
10. (+1) Nine Dragons' Ball Parade - Another enjoyable chapter with this game, I liked how it balanced the positives and negatives of the team and our analytical main character didn't ever let it phase him.
11. (+3) WITCH WATCH - Ok, that was kinda cute. Probably one of the funnier chapters as well. Kan is officially my favourite character.
12. (-4) Black Clover - Liked the action once again, though there were a couple of pages/spreads that were pretty tricky to work out with all black covering half the page.
13. (-1) High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku - It really felt like we had three sports series this issue with the focus on the volleyball team again. I'll cherish this while we have it.
14. (-1) Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - I'm glad the flashback has concluded because any longer would feel excessive. I like that this series not ending this round makes everything feel like a like this was a planned short serialisation. I suspect it could have gone on quite a bit longer but this arc does read like the natural ending of the series.
15. ( = ) The Elusive Samurai - Another solid read with some effective artwork, especially near the end.

Fine:
16. (+1) Mission: Yozakura Family - I appreciate grounding the Yozakura family in history, and the fact this battle is still at least fun to read, but its still a bit too try-hard for me to actively enjoy. I wonder if this will be the final arc...
17. (-1) Magu-chan: God of Destruction - Another funny chapter. That teacher was ridiculous but a nice one-off villain.

Bad:
18. (+1) Ayakashi Triangle - This was all just a horny sex fantasy that I didn't care for, but Suzu immediately going back to sleep at the end to avoid the situation actually made me chuckle out loud. For that, I'll save it from getting last place this week.
19. (-1) I tell c - Well that was fully ridiculous. So dumb. Bad.

Blue Box has cute moments but the lack of any stakes makes it hard to care for it.

Clear solution would be to give the femchar a love interest that develops into something serious.
There are ways to create drama and tension without inserting a rival love interest. Either way can be done well so I'm not worried, but having anyone else be introduced would end up feeling fruitless because of how genuine Taiki and Chinatsu's bond is so far.

I miss Candy Flurry on M+
I tell c had its best chapter to date and Sakamoto was very good too.
I think Mashle is in a hurry lately and when this happens its flaws are more visible. I mean, its developments are always quick but this seems quicker for some reason. Didn't like this week's chapter.

HSF had a straight up regular sports training chapter this week. The rise in the ToC seems to correlate with it focusing more on sports too, which makes me wonder if it might genuinely shift focus away from gag stuff and become an actual sports manga (still with gags of course, but mixed in with genuine sports).

Imagine if, after all this time, we finally get a new sports hit and it's... High School Family 30 chapters in.

But there would be no point in calling the manga HSF.

It wouldn't be the first series to shift premise away from its title a bit. Medaka Box abandoned the 'box' from the title ~20 chapters in.

There was a box? I need to rewatch the anime, lol.

but also please keep the manager trying to lure him back, and the siblings working afterschool.

The sport series Jump readers never knew they wanted - a 45 years old man playing Highschool Volleyball.

1. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin: Yes, number one. Can't hide my feelings forever. The flashback came to a close and completed a greatly built descent into darkness. There are still some unsolved plot points but damn that Orpheus punch at the end feels satisfactory.
2. Undead Unluck: In the end it achieved its goal of making me care about Shen. Now I can't wait for him to get his act together and beat up that evil guy as he deserves.
3. Magu-chan: God of Destruction: Been quite a while since I ranked this so high. I like it more when Magu is the absolute protagonist among the Gods, and I loved the way Ruru won the "contest" that made for a wholesome end of chapter. Also, maybe I enjoyed the absence of Uneras? That girl is everywhere.
4. Dr. Stone: Great chapter once again, certainly the best among the veterans. The only reason it didn't clinch the first position this time is because if I were hime, I would have fired the bullet. Anyway, next week it will be the start of a new era!
5. Sakamoto Days: We get a tough enemy, maybe the first really tough enemy, and he seems linked with Shin (or his organization does, at least). Between them and the killers looking at their bounty, they surely are shopkeepers with a lot of enemies.
6. My Hero Academia: Good chapter with a bit of backstory explained. I always liked the parts with the mother, it's easy to relate to her since she acts as a human in a world of superhumans and that has an effect on the characters' development (even for people like All Might). It's an aspect many "superhuman mangas" don't usually explore.
7. Blue Box: After resorting to a very common trope at the end of the previous chapter, it recovers by giving a nice twist on how the couple adapts to it and by adding the goal of getting to the nationals, that makes you want to find out if he really will.
8. Mission: Yozakura Family: Nice chapter, although once again is in preparation of what comes next. The climax is approaching!
9. Nine Dragons' Ball Parade: I liked that the self-proclaimed ace actually has some flaws that he usually covers with his natural instinct, but this time it's not enough. After spending all this time elevating the individual talents of each player, it's time for a lesson on the Power of Teamwork!!
10. High School Family:
The sport series Jump readers never knew they wanted - a 45 years old man playing Highschool Volleyball.
There's nothing else to add.
11. Me & Roboco: Second funny chapter in a row so it's probably got some steam back! Loved the Dragon Ball reference and how all the first date situation unfolded, especially the twist with Madoka at the end. Aaaww...
12. Mashle: Please Macaron, please prove to be a good opponent for Mash. You are on the good track (loved his reaction based on primal instinct), just don't disappoint next chapter, ok?
13. The Elusive Samurai: I like the thief and his values. He doesn't necessarly do what's right, but he got some nice sense of honor. That being said, I have probably never seen a couple of enemies so creepy, and their tag team action really boosts their creepiness.
14. Jujutsu Kaisen: Another chapter with wordy explanations and no action whatsoever...this isn't the part of HxH that you should take inspiration from.
15. i tell c: So, that's how the series was axed? Random bomb at the last page and everybody blows up? Jokes aside, a good murder detective manga has always a side story about a thief that doesn't kill anybody but is real skilled at his/her job (and places calling cards, of course). This is the redemption or failure arc, I look forward to this.
16. Candy Flurry: Unfortunately, a disappointment. Despite the premise, it seemed bland and generic, with no personality. Even the art is not that interesting. I predict a fast axe for this, but as always I will give it the chance to prove me wrong.
17. Black Clover: Read it in like one minute, happy that the non-relevant fight has ended, let's move on now.
18. Witch Watch: Boring, flat and unfunny. With many series that take a fast approach with their event succession, this has the problem of being too slow in a moment where it should accelerate to keep the interest up. Either that or classroom adventures, I still miss the classroom.
19. Ayakashi Triangle: once again, not its fault (it does what its fanbase wants and what it does best), but it's not for me. I can overlook the ecchiness when the story is interesting, but this was just a filler for the sake of fanservice. Onto the next chapter I guess.

was actually epecting Candy Flurry would have made Tokyo a sorta of Candy Wonderland, its implementation of the concept was rather weak, I don't actually think its using the candy to the fullest either (lollipop is just a sword, why not use confectionary properties of, will people shoot out chocolate, gummies etc?)

I thought Candy Flurry was awful. For such a zany concept every aspect of it was incredibly bland. Very little charm to the writing, and the art was just plain bad, with no imagination in design. World building was the most disappointing, just a few crumbled buildings with some giant lollipops sticking out of it and the core conflict felt very low profile compared to the destruction. And the school part with transfer student setup further undercut it. With all this it felt like any other battle manga in contemporary Tokyo. And here I was excited for candy land Toriko...

In my opinion this is the most amateurish (along OBO) Jump serialization since MangaPlus started. Makes me miss Bone Collection, at least that mess had energy (and I dont mean the action, that wasnt bad here).

Candy Flurry had its moments, but I’m leaning toward trainwreck.

And, assuming we find out, I’ll guess that Yoritomi is in charge of it.

Candy Flurry reminds me of Zipman! So... I don't think it's a good sign. I feel like it will waste a unique premise on cliche developments, much like I felt U19 did.

Probably a good advice would be to not get attached to Ame no Furu, it smells quick cancelation.

Candy Flurry doesn't feel like your typical jump flop battle shounen to me, those usually have some major missteps right away but this one I think is pretty well made overall. There's no long dull infodumps, it established the personality of the two characters fairly well with good focus on them, and sets up some potential long-term plot with the mystery of who destroyed Tokyo and with the organisation.

Rather than a flop, to me it feels more like the kind of safe but solid battle shounen you'd see being a decent hit in a minor publication like Comic Blade or something. Doing well in Jump however is another matter, it'll really depend on how the next few chapters go.
