Where did you get any indication or hint for this?
Ok, I confess I’m spitballing here. Maybe they’ve only hired help recently. My impression of manga magazines is that they haven’t taken their authors’ health seriously until recently. And it’s not just that. Japanese businesses/companies have been guilty of this for decades. That’s why I doubt they’ve had medical professional on hand until recently to really monitor their authors’ health.

The impression I get from their business practices until the middle of last decade is that they’ve never taken the authors’ health seriously until they were close to breaking and getting seriously ill.

With Gege taking a break, I’m glad that it seems they’re heading into a better direction managing their mangakas.

As much as I love Jump, I don’t exactly buy that they care about the health of their artist now.
I think they care about their bag. They’re going to try their best to not jeopardize the health of their big money maker mangaka in the magazine.

I’m sure they wouldn’t force an artist to slave away making a manga if their health isn’t good. But I can’t imagine they’d allow something significantly smaller without an anime to talk large breaks and casually come back.

I also think in the case of Gege, if he’s turning down their suggestions of breaking, and they’re genuinely concerned for his health, editors could like easily put their foot down. “No this isn’t healthy. We’re not publishing new JJK chapters for the next few weeks whether you submit chapters or not. Get some rest”.

I think it’s great Gege is getting a break, and not trying to push a “Jump and their editors are evil” narrative. Just saying, at the end of the day, Jump is a mega corporation, and like all mega corporations, they care about money, and their public image above all else

This is probably the best way to put it. At the end of the day, the bottom line is all that matters. I do think what I said is partly true though. Back in the day, they probably didn’t care as much as they do now. But now with social media, there’s an increasing awareness of consumers about the brands they purchase and follow and what their business practices are. At this point, it’s just smart business for them to be stricter about their authors’ health.

Like I’ve mentioned on here before. It would be nice if they added like 2 extra series to the magazine and offered regular breaks to the authors. They’d still be putting out titles at a good pace and Jump gets 2 extra series.

I know it won’t be done because they’d have to put something “for sure” hit in those spaces. And they really do plan to run people into the ground with overwork.

Its only a break if the author chooses to not draw so Im unsure if regular breaks is a solution for the very dedicated authors.

First time Mashle is getting the cover without Undead getting one the issue before. New batch is supposed to start the issue after right?

Thats a waaay better 1st ranking that i thought Candy Flurry would get, and also Magu-chan not ranking like isnt in real danger at all in the next round kkkk
Even ITC and Kowloon had a 1st ranking of 9. I'd be mildly surprised if it rises next week.

HBC&D ends in #29, so batch should start #30, yeah.

Most flops seem to start around the middle and gradually drop to the bottom over their next few chapters these days, I don't think we've had an immediately bottom placing series for a while.

They could still be drawing but at a somewhat more relaxed pace. But lets say they’re too dedicated to take a break, then it’s up to the editor and magazine to decide if that person needs that break or not, you could always cycle to another author instead and come back to them. It’s just an idea I think helps authors but doesn’t hurt Jump too bad as well.

was going to say is there even a fandom but then Bruning Kabaddi is my favorite anime of the season so I guess as long as cricket would have a passionate writer who can communicate that love through wonderful characters then Id become a fan.

Was just thinking about this today while watching cricket in the pub. Does Japan care about cricket? Will it succeed? Would be interesting still. Don't think I have ever read a cricket manga

I don't think Japan cares but its big in countries like India, Australia, UK and a well done sports manga can still sell even if japan doesn't care about the sport (see Eyeshield 21)

I wish a space manga on Jump, since Jump axed St&rs and AB, I feel like a sci-fi would be great
But it would be good a soccer manga too (maybe it could be a good move because of the world football cup of 2022)

Best wishes for Gege Akutami, and a swift recovery.

This would be a good solution, it would be nice that they gave Gege a week-off a month, like they do Oda, or at least until Gege has a good enough buffer for any problem that might occur in the future.

They could add maybe a series like Jaguar or something that runs on weeks where One Piece or Jujutsu Kaisen don't run, like every two weeks or something like that.

The big problem with Gege seems to be that he doesn't want to take breaks so he can finish his manga as fast as possible. I'm just glad he was forced to take an extended break since he himself admitted he needed one.
