Saying they are pointless is kind of ridiculous. Making a canon movie gives that content a much more flexible budget and pacing. While I'm sure it still would have been gorgeous, a Mugen Train made for TV would have been a step below what we actually received.I’m going to branch out from just taking about Demon Slayer and apply this topic to canon movies in general, they are pointless.
If the argument is that some fans will be left in the dark, then that’s the same thing as expecting a retelling before each canon movie even releases. Why should I pay to watch a canon movie (I did) if your going to just release it in series form and make me wait longer to enjoy the next arc.
Moral of the story, it’s all about business and we just have to deal with it. Dragon ball Super, Boruto, Demon Slayer, what’s next?
The fact that it was re-released for TV later does not change this. We go to theaters to watch movies all the time when we could just wait for them to become more accessible down the line. We are the ones choosing or not choosing to pay to watch it before that fact.
I'm surprised with how antagonistic some people seem to be to the re-release. It's not like it's affected S2, which probably would have begun airing in Winter either way. Sure, the goal is to make money (through BD, I guess), but that's why all anime is made in the first place.
