And after that, SIU would need to spend several dozen more chapters to build up a new connection to the Arie Family.

So instead he just wasted all the chapters he spent building up Baam here, opting to make him look like a worthless moron at the end of the fight and a tepid cretin upon recovering from it.

Is the protagonist so unimportant that he can just be shit on for the sake of the side cast whenever and always?

I don't know why some of you are talking about Gustang fighting the LPB without the Head and not the opposite.

Adori can't have authority over the LPB Head but if the army is serious about defeating the Po Bidau, they can't ignore Gustang so of course his only match would need to get involved.

Plus we know that the LPB Head might come via the teleporter. Gustang doesn't seem to care much about his clan and I don't see him appearing in.

Anyway, I am hoping that all of this will lead to an alliance between Team Baam(not FUG) and the Po Bidau in a way or another or that we'll at least get a representative who is part of the clan like Elaine and Yihwa are for the Lo Po Bia and Yeon. It could lead Baam to join the Research Association.

Arie Hon was never said to be the strongest after Zahard. That's very ubiquitous headcanon, but it's headcanon nonetheless.

What's canon is that Eduan is thd strongest in melee combat among the Family Heads (alongside Hon and Yurin):

I could have sworn that there was a statement that Hon is the second strongest, with Eduan being 3rd and a rival of his but I can't find it ( and I am not talking about what Hon said to Hoaqin, he was talking about overall strength of the clan. I am sure it exists though...

I am not sure what to expect of Rachel's link with the Po Bidau, but there is no way Gustang thinks highly of her. I don't think she is super close to them or anything.

It depends on if Lo Po Bia vs Po Bidau plays out in the Nest. If the Nest isn't the setting for their war, then I'm sceptical of such alliances occurring during the Nest Arc.

Hon is slightly stronger than eduan and ha yurin. Top 3 family heads are incomparable to other family heads,it's something confirmed by Arie Hon. If you want to refuse what he says then be my guest.

Arie hon is strongest. It was mentioned many times in story. AA said Arie family has strongest bloodline and is strongest family. Eduan is rival with arie hon and is jealous of arie hon for being ranked slightly higher than him.

B. Ask Baam to fight the Ancient Odd Eye Cobra and/or its Anima. If Baam is victorious, she'll release Jinsung to him.
C. Ask Baam to get Zahard's treasure from within the Frozen Waterfall. She'll trade it for Jinsung.
D. Ask Baam to hand over the Black March. She'll trade it for Jinsung.
E. Some combination of the above.

SIU said that Yuri became a High Ranker less than 100 years after becoming a Ranker. She was awarded the Black March specifically for this accomplishment:

Black March (검은 삼월, Geomeun Samwol) - Ha Yuri Jahad (하 유리 자하드)

By climbing the Tower and becoming a Ranker within 200 years and by becoming a High Ranker within 100 years of becoming a Ranker, the genius Fisherman Yuri Jahad had her ability recognized and received this weapon.

Takes the form of a needle (니들, needeul), the most basic weapon in the Tower.

Normally Rank B+ ~ A, becomes completely Rank A once activated.
