New Nakano interview![]()
Huh? No mention here (or anywhere else in the interview) of being able to understand what's in a "young boy's heart"? Almost like women are perfectly capable of those things and should also be allowed to become editors at WSJ... or something. What are the qualities of a good editor?
"I think it is to be polite. I want to be polite at all times, both in my work and in my social interactions. Also, since we in publishing are in the entertainment industry, we need to love entertainment. This means respecting not only the writers, but also all the people who are involved in the work. There are many legendary editors among my seniors who respect others in this way and are respected themselves. I think that good editors respect their authors and their works, and that's why they are respected by their authors."
I wish the interviewer had mentioned it, but I imagine awkwardness would've ensued.
