Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

Luffy isn’t gonna be stronger than kaido end of this arc
That depends a bit on what they are going to show. After the previous two "boss villains" had been awakened Paramecia, and since awakened Zoans had been teased at least since Impel Down or mayhaps even Enies Lobby depending on what Monster Point actually is, I'd 95% expect Kaido to be awakened.
(and it's probably going to look like Pollunga from Namek)

On the other hand there is going to be even more growth from Luffy, too. He hasn't even used Gear Fourth yet, but I doubt that an old trick should do it. Wether it's time for his awakening or potentially a "semi-awakening" due to an yet unseen additional nature of the Gomu Gomu no Mi, or something else, I don't know.

I think there is definitely one more level of Haki mastery. Asura is still weird, and there is no way that Gold Roger, the Pirate King, is a vanilla fighter. Oda isn't just a great fiction writer, he is also a popular fiction writer, and he makes a lot of money from it. The readers would appreciate a special Roger certainly more than vanilla sword and pistol Roger, and there is also the perspective of merchandise, mainly video games that love flashiness.

I've posted it in another thread already but I think there is a high chance that Roger, and by extension, Shanks maybe too, can turn into "Super Sayan".

I see where you're coming from, but at the very least, it should be that a fully healthy Kaidou vs. fully healthy Luffy will end in a significant amount of damage for the winner.

Sorry dude..
You just have to see the end of Luffy vs Kaido, then you'll understand that Luffy has surpassed them both at the end of the arc..
Do not compare Law/Kidd with Luffy, Luffy is one of the few of the strongest that Kaido recognized..
Of course Kaido is stronger than BM.. and do not reason with Kaido's fight with 9 scabbards, supernovas and Yamato
Luffy had been running around meeting a bunch of enemies (you name it) to reach the rooftop, does that not use stamina??
So in the end, 1 v 1, Luffy vs Kaido is an equal match, and we'll see how he overcomes an emperor, "the strongest creature in the world, if a fight 1 on 1 with him, ALWAYS BET ON KAIDO"...
There you go, why i dare to say that Kaido is stronger than other yonkou
Even Whitebeard only got the title "the strongest men in the world", but one piece world doesn't only have men.. you got my point??
Dude, you realize you're quoting a 2017 post?

Zoro easily has the speed and power to beat Mochi man. He wasn’t blitzed and one shot by kaido. He briefly blocked a combined named yonko attack. Damaged kaido before his power creep. Was able to react to speed king who is faster then kata.

Honestly future sight Haki is rather over rated. It’s actually not very useful if the opponent is faster then you. It doesn’t make you faster it just makes. Extremely differcult for those as fast as you or slower to hit you. But against faster enemies it scales extremely poorly. Now I’m not saying Zoro would blitz him, and that it would be 100% useless but he won’t be able to dodge all the attacks and with zoro’s attack power a single hit and he wouldn’t be dodging any more hits. So while he wouldn’t be 1 shot the fight would practically be won off a single hit. That said it’s possible I’m being too generous to kata. A single ACoC hit and he might be down. Look at what a single attack did to king.

He is reading from page 1. That's commitment. I have also said that Luffy isn't emperor level in the beginning of power level discussion thread. Hope he doesn't quote me 🤞🏾

Not really. Katakuri dodged Snakeman punches rather nonchalantly. It's the unpredictability of Snakeman's punches that got him. I think that was the whole point. Speed + unpredictable. It's the counter for someone who can see the future. We even saw Luffy use it against Enel: Idiot Luffy and Rebound punches off the wall.

I think Zoro’s counter he would develop for FS would be a Blitz slash. Or some type of double delayed slash. But I do think Zoro’s techniques are faster than Luffy’s….

Dragon Twister would be hell of hard for Katakuri to dodge with his CoO

Luffy really wasn’t on par with kaido to me I dunno
I feel kaido is the strongest dude there is right now , I think luffy would be in that Weight class tho no one except a top tier can really hang with him
He’s grown again sha , cause solo kaido actually whooped him pretty quick when they went one on one the first time he sent law and Zoro down , he wasn’t much stronger than law and kidd then imo

Only because someone else who could seen the future "won"

:teehee
So even if his advantage of knowing the future didnt help him to defeat a foe who just learned to tap into that power...

You probably dont know this manga, but it reminds me always on itagaki vs. imai in hajime no ippo: https://hajime-noippo.com/manga/hajime-no-ippo-chapter-1023/ its just a few chapters but you will get what i mean

Itagaki was build up as a blinding fast boxer who could see his opponents in slowmotion. In the end... he did see everything in slowmo, but this were all the punches he did eat later on.

So if you can see things its all fun and good, but as soon as you cant react to them in time... youre done for.

Well many, including myself, feel Katakuri chose to lose the fight. Even despite them being equals.

Is that a similar situation with that manga?

So he didnt had the willpower(haki) to defeat luffy in the end. Thats not choosing, thats how haki works, doesnt it?

But to be honest i dont remember that fight at all, it was far too stretched. (And that being the finalfight in WCI tells you something)

And no itagaki wanted to win badly and even insulted his opponent in his head, that he is so slow he sees everything, just before realizing he isnt fast either(thanks to taken damage) so he sees his demise coming and for me as itagakihater... it was beautiful. :D

No, choice means charging into your opponents ultimate attack instead of dodging one more time.

As we all learned future can be changed. So it is... kinda... did Katakuri ever win a fight?

:bob
What fight are you talking about? Because he's known to be undefeated until Luffy. He was his own enemy though because he kept changing the future by interfering, like telling Luffy his haki would run out or trying to kill Sanji.

So he didnt had the willpower(haki) to defeat luffy in the end. Thats not choosing, thats how haki works, doesnt it?
No, he had the willpower to choose to lose to Luffy and believe in him.

I agree, Katakuri seemed to choose to "train" Luffy in that fight rather than finish him off. Luffy would beat him now, but at that time, Katakuri had ample opportunity to finish him...but kept letting him get up. And then the smile at the end when Brulee told him Luffy escaped WCI territory.

Huh ?

1. Yamato isn't a strawhat.
2. Zoro hasn't been explicitly stated to have this either.

Yamato has better feats than Zoro, along with better Haoshoku coating usage. Yamato is stronger.
1. Yamato is all but confirmed to be joining the crew.
2. There was clearly white smoke visible on Zoro's swords during the king fight.

As is Zoro...

Seeing the literal future is overrated 😂🤣
Big Mom and Kaido don't have it and they do just fine.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

It doesn't help your argument at all. Zoro will be running away from Katakuri until Katakuri gets tired? Which doesn't make sense as Zoro and Luffy are different, in different situations. Zoro would keep trying to fight Katakuri and lose.

Katakuri can't hurt Big Mom either. Zoro's in no way comparable, otherwise he'd not have gone down so quickly and easily.

this is not Dragon Ball Z. Wadatsumi was in no way comparable to JInbei or Sanji, either could have won alone. No "cOmParAblE"

Moriah would lose to Jinbei simply because Jinbei's ability to use the salt water, which is Moriah's zombie fruit weakness.

If Wadatsumi can control the water the way Jinbei can, then he'd probably have a chance against Moriah.
1. I'm not 100% sure if Katakuri can hurt Zoro either. Zoro tanked Big Mom's named lightning attack. Katakuri Couldn't KO or even seriously damage Base Luffy after 11 hours. Base Hyozou kept up with G2 Luffy. Zoro stomped amped Hyozou. If Katakuri's AP was too weak for Base Luffy it isn't doing much to Zoro.

2. Wadatsumi is unquestionably stronger than a Pacifista. Moriah is weaker than a pacifista.
