Introduction
There is simply no consistent and universal protocol for interpreting names in Tower of God. Instead, what we have is an inconsistent mess of different conventions applied differently across various characters.
A Simple Example
Take "Khun Marco Asensio".
"Khun" is his Family name. What's "Marco"? What's "Asensio"? The other members of his Family (Maschenny and Eduan) call him "Asensio", so it seems like Asensio is his first name (there is simply no explanation for why Maschenny or Eduan would address him by his mother's Family name or by his Branch name).
Is Marco then his Mother's Family name? Or the name of the Branch he was born into? It shouldn't be the name of the Branch he founded. Asensio was already "Khun Marco Asensio" as a Regular on the Hidden Floor.
"Khun Hynd Luch" also has his first name appear at the end of his name (Dowon, and his friends in the Hidden Grove call him "Luch" instead of "Hynd". Until we're told otherwise, it makes the most sense to assume that his name is "Luch").
More Examples
What about "Ari Bright Sharon"? Which is her first name? "Sharon" or "Bright"? What is the other? A (maternal) Family name or a Branch name?
Same for "Khun Royale Elliot"?
But "Khun Aguero Agnis" has his first name appear in the middle, and his maternal Family name appear at the end.
AA in particular is different from Asensio, Elliot, Sharon and Luch because we know that "Agnis" is his mother's Family name. While we don't know what's up with the extra names of the other Khun sons.
The Comprehensive Rulebook
As far as I can tell, this is a comprehensive list of the different naming examples/conventions in the Tower:
Please let me know of any other rules or conventions I missed.
Conclusions
There are at least a dozen different naming rules and conventions in the Tower. As far as I can tell, there are only two consistent naming rules across the Tower:
No other naming conventions have enough examples for us to be confident that the rules they encapsulate are enforced consistently and universally. Basing anything on them is sheer idiocy.
Is SIU even conscious about the 13 rules I listed above? Does he rigorously adhere to guidelines unbeknownst to us when naming characters? Or is he just winging it?
