I get ya but it was mid-story, and there was a need to showcase just how different the level in the NW was.
Now Luffy has gotten his ass kicked repeatedly (even post-TS) and been put in his place more often than any shonen hero I know of, and I don’t think there’s a need to have him get whopped again, except maybe against the very last bosses (Imu/BB if that’s what we’re heading towards).
Doesn’t mean there can't be a challenge or two along the way though

Kizaru has been seen to take less damage than either Aokiji or Akainu in the story, overall. And he was up against commanders and Rayleigh. of course Akainu was up against WB but still.
Anyway the OG admirals are classy, stylish, badass and I would hate for Kizaru to be anything less than a major powerhouse and a challenge to Luffy
The biggest drawbacks I see with Gear 5th so far aside from the rapid power drainage is a possible mood distraction, because of Luffy not having enough foresight to see the attack that hit Sentomaru and him getting hit in the process. Makes me wonder what would happen if that happened to one of his crew.

I mean, Zoro doesn't have to beat Kizaru, but at least be able to fight against / hold his own. He managed to hold his own and injure Kaidou, as well as hold back the attack of 2 yonkou combined. Could Kizaru have done that? Probably, at what cost?

To me, Zoro holding back Kizaru until more reinforcements arrive would be brilliant. This is the enemy that the SH could band together to defeat just like they did in the past with Oars and Pacifista.
I don't see why the SHs would gang up to beat Kizaru. The moment Luffy achieved G5 and defeated Kaido is the moment that clearly shows he is ready for 1vs1 against any of the top dogs out there. Whether he will win or not remains to be seen, but I don't see the point of ganging up on opponents anymore. At least for Luffy

It does look to me as if Luffy is not using FS when in Gear 5 because he is not focused enough. Even the CoC infusion at his fists remains doubtful, although Kaido clearly did confirm that Luffy was using CoC during his clash with him while he was using Gear 5. What is not clear is whether he was imbuing his attacks with it, or whether he was just blasting it (the latter was much more clear).

I also wonder if the fact that he turns into an old man after isn’t indicative of the fact that he’s burning up his life expectancy 🤔
I still half expect Oda to reveal towards the end that Luffy only has a few years to live because of all the extreme states he put his body in

I am not sure that evidences how kizaru compares to the other admirals tbh. If we go by pre timeskip stuff I would argue the manga framed the 3 original admirals as being in the same ballpark. And then we get to the fight between akainu and aokiji... They fought for 10 consecutive days. That doesn't exactly scream akainu being leagues ahead or even somewhat ahead of aokiji. A 10 day fight sounds more like a cointoss tbh. While it's true that aokiji was permanently maimed during the fight and akainu wasn't the significance of this is unclear if we don't know how the fight actually played out. And finally, we don't know how each admiral has evolved since the timeskip. Plotwise I would argue that the story probably requires akainu to be an actual match to a fully realized yonko which is probably just short of where he was 2 years ago. It's not necessarily the case that the story requires aokiji and kizaru to have kept up. it is worth noting that what probably kept kizaru out of consideration for sengoku's succesor is his overall demeanor and personality rather than his actual strength. Given that he seems relatively indifferent and careless to some extent. Outside of that, IMO there's no doubt that kizaru holds a special position among the current iteration of admirals, being the most sr of them.
Perhaps, but I'm not talking about evidence rather making arguments for the position of Kizaru > Aokiji. I'm quite frankly not interested in figuring out the internal ranking of the admirals. They are, as you said, all admirals. They are all "the greatest weapons of the marines". We have no right to expect a cakewalk here.

Aokiji was recommended by Sengoku probably because he would be the most well-intentioned of the 3.

The Gorosei pushed Akainu because he killed Ace.

According to the guidebooks, Kizaru is not a good leader, and his mantra is "uncertain justice"... which explains why he wasn't a favorite.

IMHO the Admirals were portrayed as being equals, with Akainu having a small advantage.

By comparison, Fujitora and Ryokygyu feats fall behind the old trio.

If I really had to pick between Aokiji and Kizaru... I would say Kizaru is the strongest because the author picked him to fight the strongest subordinate of Whitebeard. But I actually think they are equals, and any difference is irrelevant to the story.

Despite Kizaru’s DF, the skill also means bigger role to the user. Kizaru shows nothing special this far, he’s figured to be hit-run character when comes to a fight with top-tier enemies. There are examples of smart DF user threating more than natural powerful one.

But Admiral is admiral. The fight will be heavier than Lucci, but least than Kaidou. Kizaru will be worthy opponent, but not the kicking ass one
Dude's got projection haki, only top tier CoA users have access to that. There's nothing to suggest he doesn't have the skill, but everything to suggest his personality is usually the limiting factor (or being ordered by Akainu to stay put). Hell, without Kuma and Rayleigh's interference at Sabaody, he'd have single-handedly killed and/or captured basically all the Supernovae in an afternoon.

If people really think Kizaru can perform better against Luffy than Kaidou, then maybe we are reading different mangas? By pure plot logic Kizaru should be under Kaidou or at most at his level of strength.
You do know they have entirely different powers and there's no way to tell how light will interact with G5, right? That and the upper limits of Kizaru's power is completely unknown at this point. And Kaidou himself was still far above Luffy overall, he lost because he basically chose to handicap himself several times over.

That, and not all Yonko are equals.

From the war we inferred that WB> 3 admirals but they barely broke a sweat (except for Akainu in the end, but he was up against an enraged WB. And still survived and was up to fighting afterwards).

Luffy is a fledgling Yonko and an admiral should be a challenge, if not an outright outmatch like Kaido was.
Anyway, I’m kind of an admiral fanboy lol so I’d be disappointed if Kizaru wasn’t at least a good measure above YC1.

According to this tweet, it seems there is a little confusion about the new ally of VP. @sandman_AP
is saying that the translation of the Edison line, means that the surprise ally is still in working for WG, playing double agent. Would be quite a twist to start the new Year.

Interesting. Now I'm further leaning toward Stussy.

Moreso convincing to me that it's Smoker
Do not think Smoker is strong enough to take on CP0 by himself. If it's from World Government/Marine side I say it's Fujitora or X-Drake or both then you can add Smoker to the mix.

Would be a plot twist if it was Stussy

I don’t find this credible for a simple reason. If such a double agent that exists then why does Lucci not call upon it as well. Unless the said double agent is already with him (Stussi for example), which could make sense and her giving away egghead secrets could then be a red herring.

Well she did know about the defense system of Egghead meaning she is connected to Vegapunk someway and she did not tell the other CP0 about it until they got damaged by it.

Stussy would be interesting because we just had a cover page with MADS that featured an unknown female scientist.

Obviously, a lot of female characters have the same body proportions in One Piece, but I do recall a spoiler provider mentioning that she looked like Stussy.

If this translation thing is correct, she'd be cool. Oda seems invested in her, because she's been around for a while.

The Gorosei chose Akainu because he was more blood-thirsty, less likely to not be a loyal dog whereas Aokiji has morals.
Akainu kills without caring other than it being the will of the WG.
Akainu is also just a better leader because he is pragmatic, he does what has to be done for the goal which is why if we look at the Ohara incident, objectively speaking, Akainu was right to do what he did. So, Akainu is actually a better decision maker.
Akainu has a better track record.

Also, this is definitely wrong.
Gear 5th can use FS and Advanced King's Haki.
There is no reason to think his Haki becomes useless due to G5.

Just because he's laughing and goofy doesn't mean he isn't concentrating.
A comedian can easily outperform a heckler, even though the comedian laughs and makes his jokes look effortless against the heckler, the comedian is listening carefully, observing the heckler and quickly making witty comebacks.

Luffy is pretty much doing the same, yes he may be looking goofy, but in order to avoid attacks the way he does and with the comedic precision he does, he has to be focused.

I am not saying his Haki became useless, but whether he is really using them. I am 100% sure he didn’t use Haoshoku against Lucci.

As for FS, i simply remember how Katakuri mentioned that one needs to be focused when using it. But if drunk Kaido can use it, I can see Luffy in G5 use it too
