I think he’s trying to stir up Trau’s past and memories that were gone. Trau was probably pro-V and anti-Jahad in the past.

Gustang wants chaos just like a notorious blue hair’d girl we know and just like the revs! Jahad was fine with Traum using Bam(proxy) to do away with Gustang, because you can always blame FUG!!! But if a GW family brings an end to another GW family, you have chaos and destruction!!!!

At the moment my working theory is that the core conflict within the empire is fueled by zahard stopping the tower's climb and thus "trapping" the family heads. And bam's appearance which shakes up the status quo between the family heads was the catalyst for those that want out of the tower to make their moves. Even lore wise what we know of gustang can be interpreted to mean he wants the climb to continue. Like how he suggested the princess program. The demands for a zahard heir could also easily fit into this.

He told people from his family that he wants destruction. Would you put it past Gustang to just be telling them lies, and that he has another agenda entirely? The Towerborn are just tools to be used. There's no need to deal honestly with them.

I'm in the camp that thinks he wants to restore Traumerei's memories and convert him to the greater fight against Zahard. Killing him would be the much less desirable outcome. There's some reason for him to specifically need to use whatever place he's chosen and to have Baam also be there.

Unnecessary IMO. He doesn't need to lie to them like that when they have a role to play in his plans and can't object anyway. Gustang treats people much better than Traumerei.

Personally I wouldn't like it if Traumerei ends up becoming an ally, but even if he does I am pretty sure that he is going to die at the end of this arc.

To me the most likely scenario is that Gustang simply doesn't shy away from "trusting" his insects unlike traumerei who "fears" connecting with them. But insects he trusts are still just insects. We saw the contempt gustang had for tower residents back at the floor of death and we also heard from urek this was the reason he didn't like hanging out with the family heads. It's illogical for Gustang to view all tower residents except his family as worms when their souls are as laughably small and insignificant as that of any other tower resident. I could see the endgame here being the restoration of traumerei's memories. Add to that, from gustang's perspective traumerei is a person unlike the worms. For gustang the assassination of traumerei has different implications than the murder of a trillion worms.

For now Gustang is allying with all parties who want to bring an end whole system of 10 families! But I believe his ulterior motive is to negate Zahards clairvoyance! Traum may want this too!

Kudos. I was starting to think the same. Maybe the memories Traum are missing and can’t remember may make him feel differently about Jahad & the 3 families

Going a tad further into the rabbit hole, what if traumerei didn't willingly remove those memories? What if zahard forcibly did it somehow and since traumerei doesn't remember he simply took zahard's words that it was traumerei who removed said memories.

Or it was a condition Zahard made to let him continue living after that war with V. Either Trau assisted or stayed neutral.
