Anime League Anime League - Fall 2023

[Jammin]

What a week, really difficult to pick just three but..

Frieren - Frieren going to war is a sight to behold.(Make us gifs of this Erin!!)
Shangri-La Frontier - The animation and OST of this episode, and this show in general, was so insanely good. Supporting cast is really filling in now too.
Goblin Slayer - Goblin Slayer happily laughing as he watched somebody move past the trauma he never will. Damn, man. Damn....

Honorable mentions.

Kusuriya no Hotorigoto - Enraged Maomao is just the best.
Undead Unluck - Aoi Yuuki just crushing a performance so very hard.
Tearmoon Teikoku Monogatari - Mia attempting to act selfishly and reaching near-saint status just keeps getting more entertaining.

[Aurelius]

Dark Gathering
Scariest haunted house I've seen. That was all sorts of fucked up.

Undead Unluck
RIP

So very wholesome, while Hakari is a treasure

Honourable mentions
Tate no Yuusha
This series' really good at creating insufferable characters,
Tokyo Revengers
This ending rocks
Dr. Stone
It's all on you Gen!

[SharkBait]

Paradox Live, though it had no music, was great
Kawagoe Boys, was also good, probably second
Overtake

Though honestly, only Paradox Live stood out to me, Overtake spent a bit too much time on the photographer, but the commercial was cute, while HypnosisMic focused on the least of my favorite groups, but I loved the song.

[Wowzers]

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto - The slap!
Goblin Slayer - Goblin Slayer... Laughed!?
Frieren

Spoiler: Honorable Mentions

Tate no Yuusha - With the phoenix coming soon, is there a chance Myne will die in a fire?
Dr. Stone - Gen's jedi mind trick
Shangri-La Frontier - Careful! You might want a cute Bunny Girl, but that one is also a Yakuza Vorpal Bunny girl

[Nii]

Frieren (that Frieren smirk )
Jujutsu (good pick for the cliffhanger, the next episode's going to be "fun" : D)
Undead Unluck (Gina )

HM

Hundred Girlfriends (how is this both so hilarious and wholesome? I imagine people who are a bigger fan of this genre than me are having a field day)

[Jammin]

Hundred Girlfriends (how is this both so hilarious and wholesome? I imagine people who are a bigger fan of this genre than me are having a field day)

I know right?

[Demonspeed]

1. Sousou no Frieren: You know, despite the head start, with such a strong season I wasn't sure it was going to win, but they are doing such a good job. Is it the most obvious winner of the AL ever?
2. Hyakkano: Rentarou might love them all equally but Hakari is Best Girl to me so far.
3. Undead Unluck: Good fight, GinAoi Yuuki doing wonders.

HMs:

• Ragna Crimson: Liked the cliffhanger. Ultimatia is cute as hell. Too bad she is a Dragon...
• Rurouni Kenshin.
• Mahoutsukai no Yome: Finally, fruitful interactions between the students. This arc has been pretty boring overall, but it was nice to see them getting somewhere.

[Aurelius]

Sousou no Frieren
That's my girl. Fern was majestic, and the ost was top notch. GOATESS in the making.

Jujutsu Kaisen
King Kuna and Toji greatness.

Tokyo Revengers
Emma I appreciate the studio dedicating the ED to her.

HM
100 Kanojo: That finger suck
Ragna Crimson: Such brutality on Best Girl
Dark Gathering: That fetus spectre is apocalyptic
Kusuriya: I like the freckles lol
Shangri-La Frontier: Finally found her crush!
Undead Unluck: Shen is my favorite character so far

[Jammin]

Sousou no Frieren - Fern is starting to resemble Frieren a little. Demons should be scared.
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto - Is Maomao going drag anybody in this garden party around by their hair? We can only hope.
Shangri-La Frontier - So there really are more like him...

[Gajeel]

Sousou no Frieren
You let me down Demon Johan, good riddance
Jujutsu Kaisen
The others see an enemy's domain expansion while Toji sees a playground
Tokyo Revengers
She's just sleeping, right?

Honourable mentions
Spy x Family
Dr. Stone
Ragna Crimson

Hoping Sky's doing alright. Haven't seen him lately.

[SharkBait]

Overtake -by far my favorite of last week, the racers bonding while in a marathon was really cute
Paradox Live -family, second favorite episode, just getting to know the painful backstories of both groups was great. Cat's Whispers seems to have the least traumatic/dramatic of the four groups though. Still wonder if something is up with Cozmez
Kawagoe Boys Sing - third best, the twins were awesome, and their voices great. Also the performance was incredible Shake It Til Make It is second best song after On The Set

[Demonspeed]

If I didn't know who Suwabe was I would have known his name this week. Sukuna, Lugner, the Shopkeeper, Seth, Wolt something. He was everywhere

It was pretty funny imagining Sukuna being disappointed after seeing Lugner's defeat .

Anyway,

1. Mokushiroku no Yonkishi: Very good adaptation of the chapters. Hopefully the Sistana arc will be handled as well or better.
2. Jujutsu Kaisen: I honestly forget about Sukuna, but he kinda stole the show at the end.
3. Spy x Family: Pretty good start for this arc's adaptation. I usually find the anime subpar compared to the manga but I felt different for the first time this season.

HMs:

• Undead Unluck: Cool info dump episode. Loving NotShaft's work with this series.
• Sousou no Frieren: Lightning Strike!!!
• MF Ghost: The fanservice really gets in the way of the race. It's not well executed. Would have been such a good episode without this. Just let me see Kanata reach Beckenbauer .

Ragna Crimson was also pretty good this week. And things are finally happening in Saihate. This season is very strong. Helck and Kusuriya were good as well, but there are so many options...

[Wowzers]

Sousou no Frieren
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto - I wondered why those freckles were moving from episode to episode!
Shangri-La Frontier - This really is a great show, isn't it!

Spoiler: Honerable Mentions

Goblin Slayer II - Cliffhanger, with 100% more cliff
A Returner's Magic Should be Special - rapier, check! Commoner, check!
Helk - This episode brings a tear to the eye… probably another distressing episode next time too

[Juviii]

Sousou no Frieren
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto
Spy X Family

[Nii]

Frieren (Stark and Fern )
Jujutsu Kaisen (Toji and Sukuna )
Undead Unluck (Andy and Clothes )

Hoping Sky's doing alright. Haven't seen him lately.

Don't worry, he's fine. He just stopped watching anime for the most part, so that's why he hasn't appeared here in a while (but he definitely won't abandon the league, just a matter of time until he makes an update)

[Erinyes]
