yeah, hinata and naruto & sasuke and sakura was pretty obvious tbf, Sai and Ino had some moments where could think they would eventually get together too

I am not saying i am not happy with end result. I am just saying the way it is developed is extremely barebones at best lol . And Kishi literally has hundreds of chapters for that. And it is not like he can't do nice romance. Look at Naruto's parents.

About Mha In the end of the end Izuocha is just not have good writing. Of course its not as bad as Bleach but pretty mehish. Canon in extra chapter? Isnt it like giving a dog a bone. It wouldnt be so bad if timeskip was smaller but like that its just not good.

Anyway, ok Jump issue, some really strong chapters (Kagurabachi dropped some big bombs and it's my easy #1 for the week) and some real duds. Also how is everyone reading the Astro chapter as romance when she's trying to help him breathe? Nue had an actual confession underwater the other was not

Other highlights for me are Yozakura dropping a Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel beat chapter, Ichi for being super fun and Shinobi for really finding a groove going. Syd Craft is also decent, someone's already highlighted the subtlety in it and I'm really rooting for Witch Watch to pull the funniest move with the ending of this chapter once the flashbacks end. Everything else was decent to middling for me.


Anyway not to beat a dead horse but Japan's conservatism and its relation to LGBTQ depictions might be less strict than you guys think — between obvious examples as highlighted before, but also in real life legislation because gay marriage was recently legalized. correction, still banned but the ban is seen as unconstitutional so it's not unlikely it'll be legalized in the near future.

I definitely do think WSJ is a bit more shy about showing explicit romance in general, let alone LGBTQ+ romance — please don't jump me with romance jump comments this is the best it's been in probably forever but even those don't really embrace the full scope of a relationship if we're being honest outside of something like Blue Box — but I don't think it's completely out of the question we could have something like that in the future. Actually, if we're being honest we had a surprising LGBTQ+ character in a major jump manga before!

Spoiler: Sket Dance spoilers for the final chapters (main example) + Kanata no Astra spoilers

While not gay romance, I think it's crazy that in a time where LGBTQ+ characters were not as easily accepted as they might be now, Sket Dance's final set of chapters had a trans child. I think this alone proves to me Jump isn't as shy as we think about possibly having a gay romance (arguably much easier to accept for many since yaoi/yuri is more acceptable it seems). Shinohara also had an intersex character in Kanata no Astra but I think this one is more well known since that was animated. I wouldn't actually be surprised if Shinohara drops a side character who is gay in Witch Watcha actually!

If you clicked on this spoiler and intend to discuss it I hope you're going to be civil about it even if this is not in your world view btw. But like I said, that example alone makes me think it's not impossible, it's just authors are probably far more coy to show/embrace more honest depictions of queer characters, particularly in a demographic that's just skewed towards battle manga and stuff.

Another incredible week for the magazine and even better than last week! So hard to rank but my top 5 are.

1. Kagurabachi
2. Hunter x Hunter
3. Ichi the Witch

4. Nue's Exorcist
5. Ruri Dragon

Astro Royale, Ultra Exorcist Kiyoshi & Shinobi Undercover all had awesome chapters this week as well.

Yozakura and Undead definitely feel like they're in final stretch mode now as if this week's chapter, next batch would be a bit soon I think since that's only 4-5 chapters each but the one after for sure (well, unless it's like 2023 and there's a double length gap letting Hakutaku hit near ch 30 but I don't get the feeling it will).

Shipper meltdowns are always a bit unhinged but MHA's is the weirdest yet, with Naruto and Bleach I get it since people always get really attached to the first girl introduced, but there was only ever one pairing set up in this series. Some are definitely playing it up for engagement's sake but c'mon, this was as obvious as it got. Expecting Deku to end up with anyone else was plain silly here, there wasn't even any other romance so much as hinted at besides this and Toga's various interests (which largely was an extension of this pairing).

It's a symbolic kiss, Kinpa loves Hibaru and is clear as day he will marry her in the end, so she "kissing" him to help him breathe is a symbolic thing about the two, you even have them looking at each other with a expression and swiming together in the last panel, it is romantic.

Assuming any legitimacy from this source this is interesting as a tidbit:

Are execs really seeing Akane as a non-performer and that's why it's not seeing an anime announcement yet? Feels really weird since it's decent, but then if you ignore it and also point to Kindergarten Wars because that's definitely very popular in Japan and I'd find it really hard to believe that wouldn't be successful with the right push for local audiences, let alone global ones.
