God,the discourse is going to fucking annoying for the next several days

It is an intensely racist premise for sure, it's pretty much all the anti-immigrant talking points rolled into one series. Privilege over the locals, expecting everyone to cater to them despite not bothering to learn the language, crimes being ignored, people being complacent and just accepting it or even loving them, people who hate them feeling like they're being ostracised for seeing the 'truth'. Even from a Japanese perspective these are pretty much a direct parallel to Westerners in Japan during the Bakumatsu.

Sentient Aliens are inherently always going to be a metaphor for either immigrants or colonists, intentionally or not (like how vampires are either LGBT or bourgeois-coded, and sentient robots are minorities) but this is the first time I've seen a series being so blatant about its message.

It makes it stand out for sure, I'm interested to see where it takes all this since the MCs being racist murderers is certainly unique.

Yeah,It is an certainly an interesting yet seemingly extremely xenophobic premise. It's probable that it is an satire though. Not 100% though. it is a clearly a comedy taking itself not taking itself too seriously regardless

There's two ways I think this series is go

• An power fantasy where our antiheroes own those aliens jerk,and the audience is supposed to live vicarious through them. Usually there is a plot line to justify such scenes and make the bad guys seem as bad as possible so the karma will be welcome. This is most likely if the story is truely "Eat The Rich" as people claim (Stories like Ijimeru Aitsu ga Warui no ka, Ijimerareta Boku ga Warui no ka? and even like the earliest chapters of Yu-Gi-Oh was like this)
• An Dark Satire with villain protagonists which is trying to make a Point. This is more likely to happen,I believe. (closest example I could think of is Natural Born Killers)

Regardless,It is already attracting the worst people to it. One is People who refuse to see an nuance idea Drama Queen could take due to it's controversial theming. And the second is people who refuse actual analysis and decide to take the most surface level look mostly to spite the first group.
It's going to next to impossible to actual get a interesting discussing discussion, especially after AniTuber Chibi Reviews already found. The discourse is going to blow up fast and it is not going to be pretty

It does actually seem to be interesting so I'll read an couple more chapters even if I don't think it is particularly good. Though,I will probably just drop it if I get bored or people get annoying enough

It’s a war vs two people who openly intend to commit genocide. People have outlined why it’s xenophobic and racist, it’s so obvious that it takes an abhorrent lack of media literacy to not see it, even if it’s unintentional on the author’s part or it’s meant to be wrong and bad.

I think there is no apology of racism, so it's not a racist manga for me. Racism is used as a psychological device in this manga like I said before, the same as mysogyny would be in a manga where incels were to kill women just because they want to take revenge and retake control of their miserable life. Their anger is misplaced. But that's the story of two pieces of shit taking blindly revenge (as for now). As a work of art, an exploration of the human condition/mental with these settings, liberty of expression, I think it should not be cancelled.

I don't understand why foreigners take it for them specifically. Like "we are Japanese and we hate foreigners so we're making a manga that condone gaijin hunting". It's not, but it might be and that's why there is a risk with it. I'm more worried about this because if foreigners could take it so first degree and get enraged with it then some fascist Japanese will too, and we will get starting to see some Chinese/Koreans people attacked in Japan...

For that, I'm wondering if it may be better for it to be cancelled. A fiction is a fiction, but if it creates bad outcomes in the real world, then it should be thought as a liability. Better act before something bad happens instead of being sorry after for all the damage done.

I think that’s for the best. Luckily, Shueisha is more sensitive/attuned to these kinds of potential controversie than they were a decade ago. I’m sure they’ve also learned quite a bit from the Act-Age experience.
