I still don't understand Blackbeard's plan. It seems to be:

1) Imprison high value Marines
2) ???
3) Gain acknowledgement from WG as an official kingdom
4) ???
5) Get dat One Piece (and or Empty Throne)

Like... how does he negotiate royalty status with a one-off prisoner release? I feel like Oda just needed some reason for Koby/Garp to be on Beehive Island but because it's Blackbeard of all people who had this plan, it begs the question of what exactly the details are.

How does being an official kingdom get him closer to the One Piece? If it's something as simple as 'find that poneglyph', surely he has the means and manpower to locate it and acquire a rubbing, Lafitte alone seems to do and go wherever he pleases. And even then, what, is he going to use access to Reverie to get the rubbing? In another four years when the Reverie takes place?? Like obviously this is Teach, king of the long con, but as far as plot that we're reading right now, that doesn't make any sense. We're not going to have a four year time skip or anything...

...unless time within Elbaf really is bonkers and when we leave the whole world is going to be in absolute chaos

Access to the Empty Throne Blackbeard is looking beyond just getting the OP.

The question still remains: what does being an official kingdom have to do with getting the Empty Throne? With his scheme to become a Warlord it was spelled out: he did it to gain access to Impel Down and recruit notorious prisoners for his crew. The title gives certain privileges. But none of the things that we know of when it comes to becoming an official kingdom are necessary for Teach. He doesn't need protection of the Marines (lol), I can't imagine he'd be jazzed to pay a heavenly tribute, and like I said before Reverie is in four years, *and* it's not like having access to Reverie is going to let him just take over the world because he's physically closer to the throne.

ALSO also, it's not like the WG is going to act in good faith with the guy who just pulled their pants down at Marineford and schemed his way through Warlord status just to pump his numbers at the extreme expense of world security. And Teach being Teach, has to know they absolutely won't act in good faith. It just doesn't make sense.

I'd bet this will end up connecting to whatever Doffy said is the secret of Marijeose. Maybe Rocks knew about Imu and had a plan to take Imu's seat on the empty throne. BB likely is trying to finish what Rocks started, make Beehive an official kingdom so he can gain access to Marijeose to enact his actual plan.

From what we've been seeing with Imu and the contracts it could even be as simple as reverse the contract on Imu so instead of becoming the slave BB becomes the master. If the power is DF based having the Darkness Fruit might have all been leading up to this one big gamble.

Well since it's implied that imu may have some kind power of someone who is king and somehow BB know about this and have meanings to reverse this or make it backfire on imu. ( It is implausible and almost impossible, I know).
I mean, what's the point of acquiring Saint Garcia appearance on egghead if he's dead anyways. Unless it absorbs the memories or knowledge somehow with Catarina's power. I think this is the key point to BB's master plan and we just can't see the whole picture yet ( and I have no f clue about it).

The clues are on his crews fruit power, I felt that Teach picks them on purpose.

You're right. They're extremely specific. But still hard to figure what is his master plan behind all this. Invisible power, warp power, mimic appearance power...

Hmmm, I think this is more or less it but I would include Katarina getting her hands on Saturn's likeness. If the move now is comparable to his moves during the first half of the series I'd think BB is probably aiming to become a member nation of the WG, use his status to safely enter marygeoise without admirals objecting and once there use katarina's saturn form to enter somewhere only a gorosei get into in mary geoise. To what end I have no idea.

This kinda assumes that Saturn being replaced will be kept secret for some reason, when they're all public figures. Especially anybody of significant rank would be confused at their recently dead/disappeared boss wandering around.

Katarina's mission is strange, because idk how Blackbeard was supposed to predict that a Gorosei would show up to Egghead. But it does kinda make sense if their mission was vaguely "hijack/sabotage the Pacifista by whatever means", and it just so happened that Saturn would get blasted across the island and land in Katarina's lap.

I don't expect it to be a secret but I would say a transformed Katarina is at least enough to catch low and maybe mid level minions at Mary Geoise off guard. Add to that, even without the the gorosei title saturn is still a tenryubito.

To me it's pretty unlikely the BB pirates predicted saturn was there. The strawhats arrived at egghead and allied with vegapunk which in turn resulted in the world government gathering in as short a time as possible as much forces at it could possibly get. Even then this required them to sail from neighboring islands and we know that travelling between islands takes at least some time. Let alone the time required and probable spectable that the top ranking tenruibito leaving MG would be to begin with. My guess is that at some point in between Saturn leaving MG and the egghead siege BB learned that Saturn was moving and BB tasked katarina with getting Saturn's likeness.

Yeah, this part of the plan is quite convoluted. Koby/Garp being used a bargaining chip is a good idea and makes sense, however, Blackbeard trying to leverage that into full on royalty status is where things get a bit nonsensical.

Oda didn't do any real legwork to justify why the Marines would even consider that trade and what makes those with the "Hero" moniker so important in the grand scheme. I think it'd have made more sense if Blackbeard was attempting to convince Koby to work with him again like they did in the Rocky Port Incident and something. And then try to work that into something greater.

As for Caterina, I doubt she was aiming for Saturn as they arrived to Egghead prior to the him and Marines. It's likely they were actually going for Vegapunk to get his image, but lucked upon Saturn instead. Both of them would have access to inner workings of Marygeoise and the rest of the Gorosei at least.

All that to say, I don't know exactly what Oda is going for here, but Blackbeard is clearly attempting to make a large move within Marygeoise.

The simple facts are:
  1. Blackbeard wants to be "under" the purview of the World Government and wants Pirate Island to be an offical Kingdom.
  2. He requires the appearance of a high level individual in the World Government, which he has in the form of Saturn.
  3. Lafitte is currently stationed at the base of Marygeoise, keeping tabs on the situation between them and the Revolutionaries and has made some preparations for something.
I think the main issue is we're missing context. Blackbeard knows more than us and is working off of that information.

One Piece is lining up to be a battle of King of the World. That ultimately is what Blackbeard is aiming for.

Imu (WG) won the last war for that title.

Emeth expressed an apology for not being able to make Joyboy King.

I assume there was a Blackbeard equivalent in Joyboy's time that stumped him from achieving his goal, by trying to achieve the same and by that token, the division within the "D." clan is what allowed Imu to win. Divide and conquer and all. Let's call this type of character "Snake".

We get a hint with Vegapunk saying "To those who bear the moniker D., within you there is ...." (Paraphrasing) and it shows Blackbeard in the next panel. I think Vegapunk was going to warn of a Snake, since he already spoke of Joyboy and also the Blackbeard panel.

I also think Blackbeard knows what happened regarding Rocks, who also is another generation's version of the "Snake" who tried to become King, this time having that generations Joyboy and WG defeat that gen's Snake.

So there have been 3 major players over centuries, representing 3 different ideas, fighting to be King.

Freedom - Joyboy/Roger/Luffy

Control - Imu/WG (Garp)/Koby

Chaos - "Snake"/Rocks/Blackbeard

Freedom and Chaos are closely related, so in the past their ideals would have aligned as a goal until they realized their interpretation of "Freedom" were 2 different sides of a coin, we see that reflected with Blackbeard and Luffy.

We will see this 3 way struggle play out again, but it HAS to turn out differently this time (Else wtf is the point of the story lol).

Anyways, bit of a rant but basically Blackbeard will try to be king. Ending it with a quote from Van Augur.

Saturn: "You people are always up to strange business, what are you really after?"

Van Augur: "The World".
