A little thing I was thinking about that I think I'll append to my 2026 predictions, but felt like posting it as a little chart here:

Feel free to correct me if I misinput something here (gosh I wish there was a way to resize the columns so they weren't spaced like this...)

I think this is fun to analyze to see how certain years stand out from the others, like 2020's unusual number of series and how it seemed to actually work for getting lasting series, or how much of an anomaly 2016's swath of hits was (there's additional data that could be analyzed to show how some of these happened, like how most years have 5 or 5.5 batches, but 2020 had 6, 2 of which were 4-series batches, contributing to the)

So what does this mean for predictions? Well, I at least want to use this data to make somewhat educated guesses, the first 2 of which I'll go back and add to my predictions thread:
-I predict there'll be 11 series this year. The last 2 years being above average makes me think we're due to dip below a bit, especially since I don't believe there'll be a batch of 4 this year, and our latest batch was a little close to the end of the year.
-I predict that we'll have only 2 of the 2025 series reach a year. I say this both due to 2024 having an unusually high ratio as well as knowing the state of how the 2025 series are sitting. If I had to guess which ones it is, I'd say Someone Hertz is the first survivor, and then either Harukaze miraculously survives or it's up to Osoegawa and Hero Girl & Demon Lord to duke it out and see which one sticks around.
-We'll have at least 1 series that make it 3+ years for both 2025 and 2026. This is a longer term and less bold of a guess since it has been the case for every year since 2010, so unless Someone Hertz or the other survivors wrap up pretty quick (which, I guess could happen given the strength of 2025 overall) this should be free.

Hopefully someone else gets value out of this silly chart, I wasted a bit much of my evening staring at the Wikipedia page to compile this together and draw my conclusions from it.
I don't know, but in other lines of work, less than 50% of success is direct firing.... Can you imagine a doctor with such low success rates? A seller? Even teachers don't have such low success rates... The successes greatly compensate the failures regarding money, so failures are deemed ok, but it's more luck than skills at this level of failure/success rates... IMHO.

btw does anyone know if there was a reason for Ice Head Gill to be cancelled, or was it because it wasn't popular between readers. I started reading and the MC is so funny, really charismatic

Manga was generic as hell, simple, it was a huge bomb, didn't even charted in the weekly shoseki.

On that note, the one thing that always surprises me to think back on is that WSJ doesn't actually have a lot of fantasy hits. There's maybe 20 or so series set in a fully fictional world (as opposed to urban fantasy or alternate history) but most of those are in worlds with modern technology.

The only outright fantasy hits I think are Dragon Quest Dai, Black Clover, Mashle, and Ichi? Maybe Hoshin Engi too, I've never read it so I don't if it's meant to be a Chinese-themed fantasy world like Kaedegami, or actual ancient China.

Has WSJ even run any mecha manga at all since Mazinger? I can't think of even any instant flops, but surely there must have been a couple others back in the 70s.

At least there's Hero Organisation over in Jump+.

It's fantasy, the characters are gods and demigods that live in fantasy kingdoms above ancient China.

There is also bastard! which started in jump.

Outside of them , there are stuff like saint seiya and naruto which could be called fantasy manga but when people usually refer to fantasy they mean manga that use magic as their power system.

Zipman from a few years ago is a mecha manga right?

Funny enough Naruto is kind of...urban fantasy? They have buildings, TVs, etc; they were never the focus, but were always there in the village's background.

Well, One Piece and Hunter x Hunter count since there is some mysticism and adventure. Plus you have a lot of other things that are fantasy based like sky islands, a dangerous continent that landlocks the entire world you know where anything that comes to it will not only kill you but the rest of humanity.

I remember watching a history series and there were a few mecha series that came out during the 80’s. Not successful but still a try for Jump. But if we are talking about more recent ones in Jump, Zipman! all the way, which crashed and burned.

I’ll be curious to see what they do with this. I just recently started watching the original anime (30 episodes in) and while I don’t mind it’s very Toei-like pace as someone who caught up to One Piece via anime (it’s good laundry-folding content cuz I don’t have to keep my eyes on screen the whole time) I can definitely see how it’s not the most polished or well-paced production.

Ichi the Witch (6 Volumes) has 1.250.000 million copies in circulation

Another circulation update. I don't collect Ichi volumes, but that cover looks like it'd be gorgeous in person.
Is it wrong of me to expect the number to be a lot larger than this. Its still pretty good but I definitely thought that the next frontrunner of jump would have a higher circulation than blue box at volume 6.

Elusive Samurai (23) also had a circulation update. Congrats on 5 million copies.

WT getting pretty much a HxH 2011 treatment is such amazing news and honestly I don't know if any other Jump Festa news could top it.

I do hope it's a full reboot but anyways season 1 is a big hurdle for new fans especially when compared in the difference in quality to the other seasons.

Let's reboot a anime of a long running manga with only 258 chapters where like, half of it has already been perfectly fine adapted a couple of years ago lmao!

But anyway, happy for the fans, i feel like they're just kinda going to reanimate the first 70-ish episodes season that were in fact really rough, i still remember well how people here (and in general) were disappointed with the 1st episode quality.

Still, there's so much stuff in need Toei could spend time and money to reboot...
--- Double Post Merged, ---

But i would be more than happy if this reboot anime finally makes the manga gets licensed here in Brazil, is actually a mystery why World Trigger isn't licensed here after 11/12 years...
