I see Daijirou Nonoue has moved over to Jump+.

I hope he can find success there, we've had a few cancelled WSJ authors over the years who switched to Jump+ and did well.

Never thought I'd vote Sakamoto first again but weak issues make things happen. Current Sakamoto arc is actually fun to read unlike the past 100~ chapters lol

2. Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits 5
3. Shinobi Undercover 61

Jokes aside the disconnection between how Nue is treated by the editorial in the rankings & color page stuff to how is treated outside the magazine is crazy, pop up shops with merch that quickly goes outsold, whole web game just to promote a volume release, now a official line of perfume based in the characters? not to mention how is basically the 3rd most talked Jump series online alongside OP & Kgb, all before a anime is even rumored to happen, but if you're going to judge based in how its placed in the ToC you would think is just a small "mid to bottom" tier series, meanwhile a series like Shinobi looks like a big star in the making lol
It lines up with that marketing research about Nue being an IP that has fans willing to pay for merch and engage with it a lot. Third party companies probably all have numbers that show this, it's just Saito that treats it like an ugly duckling for some reason. lol

lol there's a Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi big character standee alongside OP & Roboco in the Jump build? That's kinda random :grin
Clearly must be Jump’s new big 3 :derp

Kidding aside, curious that they used Hitsuji rather than Kiyoshi? Funny that he’s pointing the gun at Luffy’s head though.

It's foreshadowing to when the former student takes the throne of the master when One Piece ends :fan

Do we anticipate that an assistant of one piece will replace odaonce one piece ends? That is a curious thought to have for the time being.

Do we even know which assistants Oda currently have right now?

There isn't really this thing about assistant replacing the big author he worked together, if happens is pure coincidence but curious enough this did happen with Oda, he was a assistant of Watsuki during Rurouni Kenshin and once he started One Piece in 1997 he basically took the mantle of the top 1 flagship series from Rurouni Kenshin which ended 2 years after (It was still the 2nd biggest series)

That’s kinda why I asked. Cause I remember that little piece of news a while back when I first joined the forum. It would be very impressive if we get it again.

If any assistant is taking One Piece’s role as the next long-running hit it’s gonna be RuriDragon; not because of global scale or even magazine presence, just because it’ll last 30 years due to it’s slower release schedule and very relaxed pacing. (this is not an actual prediction I am not wishing this upon Shindo)

I concur on this statement. Also I doubt there is someone that is going to match the level Oda has set for the magazine. Similar to Kochikame and it’s author.

Shonen Jump announced changes in the serialization fees for new authors:

According to Livedoor News article:

-The initial manuscript fee for a new serialization is 20,900 yen per page in black & white, 31,350 yen per colored page and the manuscript fee will increase 1,100 every year.

-Furthermore, the "exclusive contract fee", which is a optional thing for authors to sign, it's a one year exclusive contract which they receive 1 million yen right when starting a serialization and it increases by at least 500,000 yen every year.

-Other income sources include tankobon royalties, merchandise royalties from sales at Jump Shops nationwide (15 locations) and revenue from mixed media like TV anime adaptations.

-The Shonen Jump GIGA manuscript fee is 13,200 yen per black & white page and 19,800 per colored page. Also new authors can choose to enter a trainee contract as part of the production support system or opt for a standard author contract, the trainee exclusive contract pays 300,000 yen for a six-month period and includes access to trainee-only study sessions and tickets to related events for learning purposes.

Anyone else get their Shōnen Jump Year in Review for 2025? My most read series were:

1. Undead Unluck
2. Mission Yozakura Family
3. Toriko
4. Assassination Classroom
5. Nisekoi

I’m pretty happy with these results and kind of shocked too. I thought Toriko would be at # 1 considering its length, but I’m not sure how this whole year in review is calculated anyway.

I never did comment on how I felt about Toriko. It was a great read and extremely imaginative! But god, the amount of text…even though I read one chapter a day, sometimes I’d feel exhausted getting through it. My only other issue is how the rest of the Kings were fodder towards the end. That was awful. But the rest of the series was great.

Finishing up Assassination Classroom and reading Toriko and Nisekoi for the first time filled up some of my gaps in my Jump history. After finishing my Undead Unluck and Yozakura reread I stopped the whole “read a manga chapter a day” thing I did for the past 2 years. Maybe I’ll start again next year.

Given that he had 8+ years under his belt, wouldn’t he have been pretty well off by then? I figure he made the right call when he considered his health.

The success of a mangakas previous series doesn't matter if their new series can't get popular. Astro Royale lasted longer than Samurai 8 and Gun Blaze West which were from Kishimoto and Watsuki respectively. Plus tons of other new series from esteemed vets.

Reminder, successful mangaka can still get axed if the series can't get popular
If anything Astro is the 3rd axe after his first success. One of his axed series doesnt even have any scan or digital copy available

p/s: authors are human. Human has up and down. I wonder why do we have to keep talking about how successful author could fail
