As much as Gonron is dead, it is worth noting that among the instanly-axed series getting U19’d isn’t really a matter of performance, moreso just hinges on the timing of batches. Neither Nice Prison or Yokai Buster Murakami were U19’d, whereas we just saw 3 series get U18’d, all of which were overall deemed varying degrees of better than the previously mentioned 2.
Yeah it’s kinda wild that people treat having 17 vs 20 chapters as a criteria of anything. When it’s always just kinda random. Like I see people foaming at the mouth, hoping gonron ends up being 15 chapters, when it may very well get 20.

Returning mangaka:
Daisuke Enoshima (Fabricant 100)
Kento Amemiya (Shadow Eliminators)
Natsuki Hokami (Hell Warden Higuma, Greykeys’ Demon World Translation*)
Tadaichi Nakama (Tokyo Demon Bride Story, Demon Academy Gran Gigorga*)
I've got one returning mangaka correct in the first batch, I'll take that as a win.

Thoughts on each - mind you preview images are notoriously awful representations of the series themselves, including their artwork. Once you see the colour page and the art within panels it can feel totally different, so I'm not putting too much weight into them. Plenty of people have made incorrect assumptions based on character designs from one image alone below.

Under Doctor (Kyou Tatsuya Tanimoto): Another Horikoshi assistant, curious to see if it's another who falls into the curse of having a failed serialisation. A medical battle series could be fun. Their recent one-shots are well drawn too. I do get a 00's vibe just from the MC's design in the preview. I'm on board.

Kaigeki no Kinato (Kento Amamiya): I actually expected him to go more of an ecchi rom-com route this time around, I reckon that would have played to his strengths that got revealed too late in Shadow Eliminators. If he's smart he'll have the hot guys and hot girls for everyone to be happy with, and hopefully hotter writing than Shadow Eliminators had to make it worthwhile. I did pick him as a returning author for a reason though as I expect he'll do better the second time around. If it's another battle title then hmmm let's see.

Alien Headbutt (Inui Akira): I mean, this could be anything with that name and that image. No real comment other than his being a Centuria assistant means Fujimoto family tree of assistants has now expanded to grandchildren.

Also worth noting that Hunter x Hunter doesn't get advertised as part of these serialisation rounds, though it does usually come back an issue or two before/after. So if Togashi does send through enough manuscripts in time for this batch, I'd expect HxH to return around #12 or #13. Or if it needs longer, when JJK Modulo ends around #15.

RIP Otr of the Flame and Harukaze Mound. Really looking forward to seeing how The Elusive Samurai wraps up.

Congrats to Someone Hertz for a great first week. Despite stock issues, I'm sure first month will be a good amount (maybe around 40k?) and if it's all correct for volume 2 that should result in nice growth too. And would you look at that, Saito has his third proper hit! And a romcom at that. And one that doesn't have any fanservice at that? Maybe his apparent hate boner for Nue's Exorcist and Hima-Ten! and not wanting to reward appealing to titillation isn't purely personal after all and there's some more evidence behind his apparent shift in focus than what we know? I have no desire in actually engaging in this conversation, though I'll happily take non-ecchi titles over ecchi ones in the magazine. The fact it'll exceed both their peaks in its first volume is pretty notable. Happy for its success!

I didn't look at the Hima-Ten spoiler so I don't know what it is, but it's not going to end now or anything super soon. Worst case scenario it wraps up mid-year, maybe in the second half if it's actually doomed. If that's how long it goes then it could still end up around 100-115 chapters (12/13 volumes) in length which would be pretty decent for a Jump romcom. Whether it's a signal of an end closer on the horizon than predicted, or developments speeding up to keep it exciting, I wouldn't be too mad about it personally, it needs to shift gears from where it's been for a while, imo. And its stagnating fanbase and numbers I think reflects that. Also, it's not an absolute bottom dweller in the TOC yet so that would need to become more of a pattern in future for it to be in serious worry.

WE REACHED 100 PAGES!!!

:confetti

We reached the thread first achievement, 100 pages! Took more than a while to happen (2025 we did in just a month) but the important is to reach it with god discussions! Hopefully from now we will keep having tons of great discussions about Shonen Jump 🙏

Dark Doctor Ikiru in J+ was pretty close as it gets tbh, I kinda liked it but it definitely got axed for a reason. I can imagine Under Doctor will be similar tbh, not confident on the premise but as usual I'll give all 3 a fair chance till the end as per my rules
Lol totally forgot about Ikiru. It was cool

Yeah but then like I said, 2026 is going to most likely result in losing:
Elusive samurai, modulo, blue box, witch watch, and maybe sakamoto days. And because 2024-2026 really only has hertz and ichi as standout hits, I think people are getting antsy for like big returns or big successes.
I am very sure JJK will return with another spinoff after Modulo ends. If not wsj then other mag

Harukaze might live?

If not though it’s funny how it literally started ranking slightly better weeks before it’s axed.

interesting, hero girl feels like it has a chance (don't think harukaze is making it out sorry) but it's also funny to see witch watch so low when we know it's doing great.

oh well, guess the kagurabachi color was a pipe dream anyway

Dang rip mage, it and hero have basically switched spots, but I think both will fall to the bottom in due time. Sucks to see another batch unilaterally flop.

Tanimoto's fight scenes are a little off in this one and the other oneshot. I really hope he's improved in 2 years.
