Was going to say the negator abilities in Undead Unluck and blossom in Yozakura, but they're both gone. Aren't the swords in Kagurabachi like this though?

Outside Jump, the Divine Tools in Sentai Daishikkaku.
I'm thinking more of a power up, a "second division" inside the power system itself.

Not everyone who uses the power can use this kinda of stronger ability. And when it's used is a hype and aura moment for the manga.

Not really, all the swords besides one have 3 powers that can change properties depending on the user, but no straight up upgrade like Bankai

Weekly Shōnen Jump Manga Sales in France: 2025 Figures and Updated All-Time Rankings

Thanks to @Athan0r on Twitter, we’ve received new information regarding manga sales in France for 2025, as well as updated all-time sales figures.

Best-selling titles in 2025

Published by Kana:
(Ranking is correct, sales figures are estimates)
  1. Naruto — 1,600,000
  2. Hunter x Hunter — 464,000
  3. Kagurabachi — 384,000
  4. Boruto — 320,000
Observations:
  • The top 4 best-selling Kana titles in 2025 are all WSJ series.
  • Kagurabachi is the best-performing new series on the entire French manga market, not just among Kana titles.
  • All new editions, spin-offs and sequels are included in those figures.
Methodology for the estimates:
For example, we know that in 2025, Hunter × Hunter represented 29% of Naruto’s sales. We also have Naruto sales at the end of 2023 (31.8M) and at the end of 2025 (35M), meaning a 3.2M growth in 2 years. Assuming an even split between 2024 and 2025 (which is likely not perfectly accurate given the declining market, but acceptable for an estimate), we have 3.2M / 2 = 1.6M Naruto copies sold in 2025. Therefore, 1.6M * 0.29 = 464K Hunter × Hunter copies sold in 2025. The same logic was applied to other titles when only relative ratios were available.

Published by Glénat:
(Ranking and sales figures are correct)
  1. One Piece — 3,700,000
  2. Dragon Ball — 1,470,000
  3. (Berserk — 860,000)
  4. Sakamoto Days — 240,000
  5. Dr.STONE — 170,000
Observations:
  • All new editions, spin-offs and sequels are included in those figures.

Updated all-time sales in France (confirmed figures, all publishers)

All series above 1 million copies in circulation:
  • One Piece — 51,500,000
  • Naruto — 35,000,000
  • Dragon Ball — 33,100,000
  • My Hero Academia — 10,000,000
  • Bleach — 6,400,000
  • Death Note — 5,000,000
  • Hunter × Hunter — 4,800,000
  • Assassination Classroom — 3,900,000
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! — 3,000,000
  • JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure — 2,900,000
  • Dr. STONE — 2,900,000
  • Shaman King — 2,500,000
  • Boruto — 2,500,000
  • Saint Seiya — 2,400,000 (main series only)
  • Rurouni Kenshin — 1,700,000
  • Slam Dunk — 1,300,000
  • D.Gray-man — 1,300,000
  • Eyeshield 21 — 1,200,000
Observations:
  • Unless stated otherwise, all new editions, spin-offs and sequels are included in those figures.
  • My Hero Academia figures are based on September 2024 data, when only 39 of the 42 total volumes had been released in France.
  • Several series (such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer) clearly exceed 1 million copies, but are not listed here due to the lack of official figures.

PS: Additional data from other publishers may emerge in the coming days. I will update this post if needed.
Great numbers for Naruto & Boruto, already being one of the 20 best selling Jump mangas in history is pretty cool :hee

For what it's worth, I think I actually think you resident Nue enjoyers here seem like very cool, eloquent people who I'd probably get on well with. If only we agreed more :') Though I also do love arguing with friends for fun about why we disagree on things. Like I said, I think it's more just my association with disgruntled Nue fans (for what I agree are sometimes very fair reasons) can make engaging here feel more discouraging? Sometimes I do think If only I could shake Kiaida and show him there are positive things happening in the magazine despite how it may seem! but it's fine. Whatever disagreement I have on here is not that serious and nothing compared to so many other places online where there's no space between being a diehard rider or a dedicated hater for life and people don't actually engage with each other.
Btw I did listen to one of your podcasts this month and got surprised by your voice, didn't sound like what i imagined but it does sound like someone from Scotland, cool voice :grin

Issue 9 Rankings:

Tier 1 (Great):

1 - Kagurabachi
2 - Ichi the Witch
3 - Akane Banashi
4 - JJK Modulo
5 - Someone Hertz

Tier 2 (Good):

- The Elusive Samurai
- Witch Watch
- Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi
- Sakamoto Days
- Me and Roboco
- Shinobi Undercover (the gag of Yodaka constantly having to knock people out because they kept hearing him knocking out the previous person was hilarious and is just like me whenever I try and play stealth games lmao)
- The Mage Next Door
- Under Doctor (VERY solid start imo, i liked pretty much all of it. It's also good to have a main character design that isn't simply a generic looking high schooler or younger, at least in appearance since he could still be a teen lol. Only thing I hold against it is that "assassination" is starting to become the new "exorcist" in terms of oversaturation of a genre/theme, but I'm not personally at the point of being sick of it yet plus this at least has something different to it with the doctor and medical stuff).

Tier 3 (Ok):

- Hima Ten (classic romcom harem series thing of ending a chapter on something that could change the status quo only to go "actually, never mind, nothing will change really" lol)
- Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits (best chapter of this series so far imo)
- Ruri Dragon
- Blue Box (i still don't understand why this whole Hina/Taiki arc was needed tbh)
- Harukaze Mound (rip, i always just thought this series was just ok, never anything special. I mourn for Phantom Seer every day, hopefully if this duo gets a third shot they return to a more actiony route, since I think that's where their art really shines)

Tier 4 (Bad):

- Nue's Exorcist
- Gonron Egg

Overall a very strong Issue imo, i had a really tough time narrowing the top 5 to...well, a top 5. Shinobi, TES and Witch Watch could have all been in there for me.

Last week I couldn't find enough chapters that were worth voting for, this time I don't have enough votes to give. Very strong issue with a lot of excellent chapters that really resonated with me.

Votes:
1) Ichi
2) Under Doctor
3) Kiyoshi
4) WW
5) Shinobi

Ichi: ... I mean, my aunt was also born in the taxi on the way to the hospital, but this is next level. I like how completely out of their depth those two are. (I wonder if the kid will have powers straight away, that could be interesting.)

And then the situation goes from bad to so much worse and she's still protecting the kid and it's probably going to be weeks before we know more because we're doing a flashback now and then probably back to Desscaras and I already don't want to wait anymore. Great chapter, very frustrating.

Under Doctor:
- My first impression is Vash the Stampede.
- Second impression is quack, because that sounds seriously shady. Time to turn off the scientific part of my brain, I guess.
- I like the old guy, even though his eyes kinda freak me out.
- Obvious terrorist is obvious.
- Third impression is underground spy. I guess that is where the 'Under' came from.
- I kinda expected him to have done the surgery already while the guy was unconscious. (Also there's no way that bullet didn't hit any organs. You can't really miss them if you shoot someone in the middle of the torso.)
- Ah, there's the Spy x Family vibe.
- There are still more terrorists around and they will probably kill you if they notice something is wrong... WHY ARE Y'ALL CLAPPING?!
- Why aren't you shooting him? I know it didn't work the first time around, but you could still try and aim for the head while he's busy lecturing at you
- The guy seemed like such a loner, I wonder who the voice companion is.

Speaking of which, do we know who the guy in the reflection is? 👓👇 It's not his father, is it?
WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP ISSUE #9 (2026) - AUTHOR COMMENTS!
Design-wise, I like the glasses, but I'm not a big fan of the double hair. It makes his head look way too big, and I constantly get the impression there's another person standing behind him. It also makes him hard to recognise from behind.

As for the story, I did like this first chapter (especially the scenes in the cargo hold). The beginning was a little over the top, but the serious parts were really good and I dig the mystery vibe. The plot was also well-build, with all the pieces neatly fitting together.

I am a bit worried it might make the same mistake as Embers though: the interactions with the old guy were more interesting than the main character by himself, so it's gonna leave a hole if he disappears from the story. Then again, it's not like this was Embers' only (or biggest) problem, so we'll see how it goes.

For what it's worth, reactions on M+ are about 95% positive (yes, I counted).

15 pages into under doctor and I had to give up. Sorry...
Also, Mystic Eyes of Illness Perception...
Try reading until page 25. The story and tone take a sudden shift there, from medical drama to action thriller.

I wonder which one of the two will become dominant, because I can already tell balancing them out won't be easy and a medical manga with thriller elements is something very different from an action manga with a doctor in the lead role.

Now, as for the future: There is one place that Under Doctor can go which no one has pointed out. Not a medical manga, not a battle shonen.

A detective mystery.

Our buddy Haiji here was able to conduct proper diagnosis on a patient with nothing but a look, but what he cannot do is discern the cause of it, like what had happened in this chapter. I think if this is the way things go, finding out exactly how and why the patient of the week is ailed in a certain way becomes a key mystery. What I'm proposing is that Under Doctor goes by the way of House, where figuring out how exactly a patient had developed a particular illness is essential in their care. And if it was by poisoning, the why someone would do that undoubtedly becomes just as interesting.

Kiyoshi: That was a really good chapter that probably wouldn't taken the top spot any other week, but this issue's competition is very strong.

WW: Another old guy I like. Hope he gets saved too. I'm really enjoying this arc so far, it's much more my thing than the comedy chapters.

Shinobi: Another infiltration arc I am greatly enjoying. It's funny how many stealth attacks and how many themes of home/belonging we have this week.

KGB: I get it, I do. But if I were his daughter, I'd be so pissed.

Hero: That's a weird thing to bond over. And the hero is seriously lacking in situational awareness. Even though I don't like the little girl much, I did enjoy the humor in this chapter much more than the last.

Sakamoto Days

Mage:
This manga feels... double. On the one hand, I do like the characters and the premise and I enjoy reading most chapters. On the other hand, I'm kinda annoyed because it feels like we're stuck in place? Helping random people is nice and all, but you can only keep it interesting for so long unless you're Detective Conan. (Also, hiring a fake boyfriend to talk down a kid? Grow a spine, girl.) I actually agree with the people who say Gonron is better in some aspects; sure, the art and story are clearly more amateurish, but the enemies are more varied and the plot is actually going somewhere, whereas Mage Next Door is spinning its wheels and solving every fight with instant magic and/or water gun.

Gonron: He must be fun at parties. Some panels feel rushed again (and the contrast with the background makes it worse), but I do like the design of the shapeshifter. He's an interesting fellow, one that oozes personality (reminds me a bit of both Night Light Hounds and the Big Friendly Giant, for some reason). It's the kind of character Otr and Mage Next Door have been lacking.

Himaten: I'm not really invested in any of them, but if this is teaching boys that a guy who does chores and takes care of his girl is attractive, I'm all for it.

Nue: BOLD. (Is this actually a common thing in manga? Yesterday's chapter of .A -dot Alice- pulled the exact same move.)

Harukaze: Should've ended after page 11, with the brothers facing each other. Everything after that is just a rehash of stuff we already saw. (Also, I will never understand why Japanese parents put so much pressure on the 'older' sibling when the difference is, like, 20 minutes. Do you actually believe that makes them better equiped to be a caregiver?)

I hope they come back with another battle/adventure series, or at least something with real conflict. This was all about being positive and supporting each other, which is admirable in real life, but it doesn't make for a very exciting manga if everything goes smoothly all the time. Even the 'rivals' usually came around after one match.

I still miss you, Iori, you asshole

Ohh, Hunter x Hunter chapter 421 will have a color page?

"No. 421 Dialogue insertion and cover color complete"

Important to remind in November Togashi has already posted about completing a cover color page, 2 weeks before posting chapter 411 (the returning one) manuscript was complete

I read the whole thing actually, it was just around that point was where I gave up any intention to support it
I wouldn't have made that joke had I not read the whole thing

15. Someone Hertz 17
16. Gonron Egg 11

Shinuki I’m going to take your advice and try to write out my thoughts about the chapters.
Though, I only really have thoughts for my Top 2.😅

Hero Girl/Demon Lord 9:
The return of Eiri the alien girl from Chapter 1 in her little gremlin form has made her my favourite!!!
She’s so cute and pathetic, I love her.
I’ve felt only felt this way for one other character and that’s Jahy from Jahy-sama. I just want take care of her and make sure nothing bad ever happens to her.

Sakamoto 244:
Sakamoto’s return was awesome and soooo stupidly funny. The fact that he wrote on the camera to advertise his store was so stupid it was funny.

The other chapters of this issue ranged from either ‘awesome’, ‘really cool’, ‘cool’ or ‘good’.

I missed my chance to vote for this but my votes would have gone to:
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume 1
Shinobi Undercover Volume 6
Harukaze Mound Volume 2

But now that I see where my votes would have gone, the rankings wouldn’t have changed one bit!!!🤔😅😂

Let's see if he survives mahoraga, if he loses to mahoraga then he's a bum 🤣
And why would him losing change the fact that he's an interesting character?
Did nanami just stops being someone's favourite after he died?

Soneone Hertz did 100k in 24 hours, 150k/160k in a week, Under Doctor is now at 75k in 18/19 hours, so maybe not exactly at the same rate but close, it's definitelly doing well, at least much better than Gonron, Osoegawa, JK Hero, Ekisen & PPP which all struggled to reach 100k in a whole week

Honestly Modulo has impressed me by how many interesting characters it’s had already in less than 20 chapters. Yuka, Tsurugi, Maru, and Dabura all have really characterization in a short amount of time. The latter is well written and is even bringing the hype moments and aura
