Sorry for taking long to answer, i checked the one shots and...well, that's something else for sure lol

The author seems to have a peculiar taste, in special supernatural & horror elements but mixed with some comedy or at least some sense of humor, kinda a bit like Tim Burton? I don't know if is the best example, in the last one shot you posted his art actually reminded me quite a bit of Raiku Makoto (Gash Bell) artstyle during his time on Shonen Magazine with Vector Ball.

Being honest, i could see him debutting in the magazine but at the same time his style of manga "Horror/bizarre stuff with a touch of comedy" feels like pretty hard to make it work in a magazine like Jump, because his art isn't anything great but his style of writing also feels like kinda niche, so yeah, i don't know, wouldn't be against him running in the magazine of course.
You know what I think?

We need niche stuff, that is, where some of the more creative series are made. Whether it's good or bad, it's always a breath of fresh air.

I say let Shinosuke Toujo in and share what he can do. Who knows, it could be a hit with horror/action/comedy fans.

Now, here is another author I would be quite interested in if they were to debut in the magazine, not anytime soon, mind you, but I can see the potential, and that individual in question would be the likes of Akio Bulldog(Yes, that is the name of the author in question, and yes i did chuckle a bit).

Here are two one-shots he produced last year, starting from Jump Giga Summer 2025:

Here is the one made in Jump Giga 2025 Spring:

Hanashi no Nagai Satsujinki is the name you are looking for regarding the one-shot made by the author in question

Once again, feel free to agree or disagree on this matter. Just wanted to share thoughts on a different newcomer.

Also, Shinuki, here are the previous one-shots by Harada Kumori, the author who made that one-shot "Ihoujin" in this year's Weekly Shonen Jump that you thought wasn't really good.

Harinezumi no Jirenma by Harada Kumori in Jump Giga Spring 2025

Bingo from Jump Giga Summer 2025:

See why i was kinda miffed with Ihoujin when compared to his previous works?

Nue's Exorcist fans critique other series on here every week - as they can and should - but that does not remove Nue's Exorcist from similar criticism. If hearing that makes you guys feel defensive then that's how fans of other titles feel as well then. Like I mentioned earlier, it just so happens that NE is a series generally well liked and voted for here. Its fans praise it every week while it doesn't really get any real hate since it became a staple of the magazine.

What seriously irks you as a simple change of tone is what I view as bad writing and makes the series harder to enjoy. I'm sorry I'm unable to 'deal with that', we just have different tastes.

What you described as being successful done for you was (for me) another poor attempt at managing tone which I've found to be a problem in the series throughout its run. Like I said, I'm used to enjoying the elements of a series (Bleach) that would be critiqued for those things week on week (lack of backgrounds, mysterious foot appearing, arms being cut off, character appearing behind someone in a clutch moment, story critiques that don't resonate with me).

After seeing the thread be pretty consistently negative from Nue Exorcist fans for months while they continue to love the series I felt like putting out my own opposite take that Nue's Exorcist is in fact not great for me and in general I think the magazine is producing some otherwise good titles. I guess we just don't all agree!
I think it's well estabilished in the thread and i even commented about it right after your original comment and Phantom RPG that no one is going to get blasted or something for making a criticism towards Nue's Exorcist, the thread is open for that just like it's open to criticism towards any of the other series, no series is shielded from potential criticism, of course as long as its fair criticism and not just straight up hateful comments, and in fact most Nue fans in the thread, including me, rarely engage when criticism is done towards the series, last time i did was because minsel was the one quoting something that was simply my personal opinion and said "no is not", aside that i rarely do because for example i know you're naturally inclined to just not enjoy the stuff from the series so i don't see why trying to butt heads with you about Nue, the comment you quoted was focused in a sole aspect, not your post in general, it's about the tone shift which i honestly think you guys make it much more than what it is, in fact it wasn't even your comment that lead mine to be made but other member, so it's what i said, i can understand when it was like with Suzaku death and being straight to Natsuki boobs, that was a drastic change of tone, but this chapter wasn't, it was natural proggression even foreshadowed by the first page of the chapter mentioning 1 of the resort bosses being in the poll, if you didn't enjoy, it's fine, your opinion, but i totally disagree with the "bad writing" part when the whole change of tone was done in a tasteful way and flow and like said, foreshadowed in the beggining, it also doesn't cause any narrative problem or incoherence/plot hole in the story 👍

The part of the thread being negative from Nue fans, is simply about the fans being frustrated with certain lack of better treatment for the series by the editorial, maybe Kiaida has his problems with Shinobi Undercover, but aside that no one is dragging any other series in the mudd because of that, mostly simply being frustrated with Saito.

To be fair, you're more defensive of the series you like (including Nue) than me. lol My main arguments about Kiyoshi, Otr's quality, etc were with you, meanwhile I don't think I argued ever much about people liking Nue or not. lol

Not criticizing, but I like these review posts more when everyone is just saying whatever they think. Always read Dongus,ItsSamu, Discomusic, Nuesmoker chapter posts as a weekly ritual (and yours when you post them). Yeah, sometimes I'll go "no way!" internally, but in today's internet having a disagreement with an opinion about a chapter's quality is easily the kind of disagreement I want to have. As long as you're reading the thing you're criticizing and not being extremely toxic towards the author (like Twitter does), it's more interesting to have a variety of opinions than just boring consensus comments that are all variations of "peak".

My thing is that I'm probably more overly aggressive in how I criticize the magazine itself. Maybe it's a bit hypocritical considering how much I focus on Saito? But I doubt whatever I say here impacts him or the magazine anyway. I also think I focus on his work and what I see in terms of trend and managament. Shinobi's treatment over Nue and Hima-ten of course annoys me in an objective way as I don't think it's more, or at least that much more, popular, but I won't deny there's an aspect of personal bias as I don't see the qualities people see in it (Nue dislikers can probably relate to this feeling, heh), but if it was selling 30k or more I wouldn't be saying anything... like I don't say how Ichi's current arc is repetitive and boring.

my goat kill blue suffered a lot here btw 😂
I wonder if the Noren marriage thing didn't exist people would be more positive about it. Story and character wise, I always liked it more than Sakamoto Days, that had better art and action.

Personally I mostly like how Nue is going, I just wish it would give some fights to the girls. I like both the harem stuff and the serious fighting stuff, and Gakuro does have really cool powers, but it still feels like Kawae's hesitent to move away from him for too long. Everyone has their own unique weapon and battle outfits and weapons, so I'd like for them to be shown off a bit more.

Though I'd say that's an issue a lot of recent battle shounen have, they've become much more main character-dependent in recent years as a whole I feel with other characters' fights being just quick asides.

That's something Kiyoshi has been good for among the recent hits, it's got that classic style where everyone in the arc gets their own proper fight. It's refreshing to have a series that's comfortable having other characters lead the story for a while.

It does NOT go both ways because you do not see me going "I wanna scratch my head when I see Shinobi/Mage praise", I just call them what I think they are on their own and that's that.
Yeah, fair. That was me being petty (which is why I said it cause I knew I was pushing it lol) as a way to be bite back against what I view as the ongoing negativity from Nue fans here in the past year which I've found quite fatiguing when keeping up with the thread.

It's not that I feel defensive and I'm not trying to be rude, I just feel like you're criticizing the series because it's not how you want or think it should be written, rather than reading it at its own wavelength.
That's just my perspective though. We all perceive things in our own way.

And you raise an interesting point by bringing up how it does seem to be primarily the Nue's Exorcist forum stans who are more heavily critical of Saito and the state of the magazine. For me personally, I think it's because Nue's Exorcist feels nostalgic in a way, like a classic 00's Jump series I grew up with. Like I could see this running in the mag back then and being a popular series.
That's probably it at times. I always try to take things for what they are presenting themselves but it's tough when I've strapped myself in for the full WSJ experience and push through things that aren't made for me. I still like to think I give it credit when it does though, now is just not one of those times.

And I can see that, it does often feel like something from 20-25 years ago, but with more of a LN/harem flavour. And I guess as a Bleach adorer who sees the clear inspiration in the series, part of me has the instinct to reject what feels like an alternative version of my favourite series that leans into the exact elements that I don't enjoy. Not that it tarnishes anything sacred but I have to admit that maybe there is something about Nue that feels like the annoying little brother of a best friend poking me everytime we hang out.

To be fair, you're more defensive of the series you like (including Nue) than me. lol My main arguments about Kiyoshi, Otr's quality, etc were with you, meanwhile I don't think I argued ever much about people liking Nue or not. lol

For what it's worth, I think I actually think you resident Nue enjoyers here seem like very cool, eloquent people who I'd probably get on well with. If only we agreed more :') Though I also do love arguing with friends for fun about why we disagree on things. Like I said, I think it's more just my association with disgruntled Nue fans (for what I agree are sometimes very fair reasons) can make engaging here feel more discouraging? Sometimes I do think If only I could shake Kiaida and show him there are positive things happening in the magazine despite how it may seem! but it's fine. Whatever disagreement I have on here is not that serious and nothing compared to so many other places online where there's no space between being a diehard rider or a dedicated hater for life and people don't actually engage with each other.

And on a side note, Kaigeki no Kinato could turn out to be anything at this point but for Kento Amemiya's strengths to come through I do hope that he makes use of his pretty boys and girls and goes Food Wars ecchi if it fits for the series. It feels like his destined lane and I'd actually welcome it.

Weekly Shōnen Jump Manga Sales in France: 2025 Figures and Updated All-Time Rankings

Thanks to @Athan0r on Twitter, we’ve received new information regarding manga sales in France for 2025, as well as updated all-time sales figures.

Best-selling titles in 2025

Published by Kana:
(Ranking is correct, sales figures are estimates)
  1. Naruto — 1,600,000
  2. Hunter x Hunter — 464,000
  3. Kagurabachi — 384,000
  4. Boruto — 320,000
Observations:
  • The top 4 best-selling Kana titles in 2025 are all WSJ series.
  • Kagurabachi is the best-performing new series on the entire French manga market, not just among Kana titles.
  • All new editions, spin-offs and sequels are included in those figures.
Methodology for the estimates:
For example, we know that in 2025, Hunter × Hunter represented 29% of Naruto’s sales. We also have Naruto sales at the end of 2023 (31.8M) and at the end of 2025 (35M), meaning a 3.2M growth in 2 years. Assuming an even split between 2024 and 2025 (which is likely not perfectly accurate given the declining market, but acceptable for an estimate), we have 3.2M / 2 = 1.6M Naruto copies sold in 2025. Therefore, 1.6M * 0.29 = 464K Hunter × Hunter copies sold in 2025. The same logic was applied to other titles when only relative ratios were available.

Published by Glénat:
(Ranking and sales figures are correct)

  4. Sakamoto Days — 240,000
  5. Dr.STONE — 170,000
Observations:

  • Slam Dunk — 1,300,000
  • D.Gray-man — 1,300,000
  • Eyeshield 21 — 1,200,000
Observations:
  • Unless stated otherwise, all new editions, spin-offs and sequels are included in those figures.
  • My Hero Academia figures are based on September 2024 data, when only 39 of the 42 total volumes had been released in France.
  • Several series (such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer) clearly exceed 1 million copies, but are not listed here due to the lack of official figures.

i still find crazy how naruto is only 16 million behind one piece... ngl selling more than 3 million copies in 2 years after 12 years the series as ended is something really incredible.

Hope we get to see a new circulation update for naruto, it's definitely closer to 300 million than we think

If you want a quick explanation for the "small" gap between the two series, it can largely be explained by the fact that Naruto was historically far more popular than One Piece in France.

When I was younger, I remember that almost every kid knew Naruto, alongside Dragon Ball, they were massively broadcast on TV, whereas One Piece had much less exposure and remained relatively """niche""" for a long time. I personally only became aware of One Piece around the age of 13–14, towards the end of middle school.

Over time, One Piece gradually built a much larger French fanbase. It eventually overtook Naruto in 2011 and reached record-high sales levels in recent years.

  • Sep. 2000 to Dec. 2021: One Piece sold 28.2 million copies (1.34M per year)
  • Dec. 2021 to Dec. 2025: One Piece sold 23.3 million copies (5.83M per year)

As you can see, there was a huge post-COVID boost in the French manga market, which positively impacted Naruto as well. Despite having already ended, it remains an absolute classic that still attracts many new readers.

Moreover, it’s worth noting that several spin-offs are still being released, along with a new large-format double-volume edition, which concluded this year.

All of this explains why Naruto continues to sell so many copies every year.

Great explanation my friend!

I am still of a strong opinion that Gege completely fumbled by involving his old MC this MUCH in Modulo. Yuji completely overshadows all the current new characters. And it really shouldn't have been the case for such a short series of 25 chapters. Annoying.

Literally most people are no longer reading for the new characters, but only for Yuji

I don't think how other people are reading matters much, the original series was already full of fans that only cared about powerscaling. Gege is giving interesting characters arcs for all of the new cast, even Dabura is well developed, so it doesn't affect my enjoyment.

I mean I’d say he’s done an okay job of not over-involving Yuji just yet? All he’s done is been a person of interest that was untraceable, and then now he’s stopping a small squabble (albeit in a big flashy way) to prevent unnecessary bloodshed between races. He’s not currently being a key player in the major political conflicts or either of the fights involving our main characters, so he hasn’t had too much impact. We’ll have to see if that escalates further though; I suspect at most he ends up being a Shanks figure to stop the fighting after the duel is properly concluded.

I do understand that there are more casual JJK fans that have flocked to this series for the sole purpose of seeing where their faves are now and have been captivated by this Yuji moment and perhaps Mahoraga, but little else. That is their own fault for depriving themselves the enjoyment of a wonderful new cast of characters and only zero’ing in on the ones they know.

Issue 9 2026 chapter reviews (The last few placements have me so bored that I genuinely do not know what to say about them):

1. Nue's Exorcist: Machida seeing herself as similar to Gakuro checks out so much given how we've seen her act throughout the series: reserved and unable to open up and face her own feelings. She may be strong in her refusals unlike Gakuro, but the core of their flaws are still the same. So, unironically the fanservice served an actually big purpose here: Gakuro understanding Machida's bravery in being honest with him is making him search into his heart, as he is face to face with someone who DOES understand him. And then there's the other side of the coin compared to Natsuki's (still truthful) words: Reina not disliking being cherished in Gakuro's way. She knows how much there is on his shoulders so that respectful adoration matters a lot to her, she knows how much it means for Gakuro himself. The core of their relationship is how much they relate to each other. And so, the only way to truly be honest with themselves is their hearts, externally with heartbeats, skips, warmth, and internally with the truth of their emotions.
That's the point of the whole arc, isn't it? Recognizing emotions and feelings. We've seen how much of Doryo's were concealed at the Bureau, how Soranaki is desperate to feel anything resembling human connection, and here we are with Gakuro and Reina being forced to lay their inner selves bare with one another, and how much courage it takes to do so.
Gakuro's heart being literally sealed and surrounded by a shell furthens my belief in his not-fully-human identity, and I feel like we are bound to see a power more like Yokaku next chapter rather than Yodama or Yozora: more Gakuro's than Nue's. It feels like each time he is ready to face his feelings, something actively blocks him...
On a more casual view, insane upscale we just got, Gakuro deflecting a level 4's normal attack... And that attack cutting straight through the top of a mountain. It just goes to show the scale of terror spirits are capable of CASUALLY, and we are finally getting more and more names for Raisei's group, which makes me really happy! Tougotsu will have to face an actually angry Gakuro, so pray for the dude. And yes, nice tits.
Amazing chapter as usual!

2. Kagurabachi: Yep, Samura using a Black Suzaku to save Chihiro and Enten as I predicted. A lot of this chapter's strength come from Samura's vision of thr future generation, that they weren't mistakes, that Soga will be ultimately defeated by what is a more just and less biased, younger society, especially seeing that sparkle in Chihiro. He won't let Chihiro die as he is the hope of tomorrow. Also nice knowing Soga's new objective, although we could guess it ourselves. He is a representation of political extremism and the lack of morality that comes with it.

3. Someone Hertz: After all the build up to the Koshien we've had before the Koshien itself, it's nice having a chapter that is just the two of these dorks bonding, albeit accidentally. Kurage is the sweetest little potato, but props to Mimei for actually throwing her the challenge himself. We are in a more slice of life portion of the story and I am welcoming it, we are gonna have a long road until the next Koshien. Wondering when the first true "arc" will start though.

4. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: Dabura understanding what warriors are and wanting to reach them in spite of being this era's "Strongest" (not really because Yuji exists but you know what I mean) is a really interesting development. And surprisingly fruity! Based Gege, Daburaga is not a ship I expected but I'll welcome it! We can see in this chapter how both sides think the conflict is getting out of hand, but worry not: Yuji's arrived and he's already demonstrating true power with just his Blood Manipulation. Also I wanna point out that he... Doesn't sound that depressed, not like how Nobara described him as: his "Though I didn't say it out loud." And "Too much?" Sound a little goofy in spite of some clear maturity even. I could be wrong, but I think Gege's pulling the rug under our feet with him...

5. JK Yuusha: Eiri's brattiness is honestly really amusing, especially with her increasing childish behavior regarding her "host". Really happy that she wasn't a chapter 1 throwaway and instead gave us some of the better development regarding Demon Lord and even the world, considering that we do have a likerly recurring (for how long I don't know, since the axe looms over the stoery) enemy to look forward to, and Demon Lord relating to the arm regrowth pain is honestly one of my favourite jokes this week. Nice chapter!

6. Ichi The Witch: Minerva and/or the baby are not dying. If they were, we would have started the flashback before the supposed "death", not after. Besides that I am happy to see more of Chro and Minerva's story as they absolutely have been carrying most of this arc. It means that we'll get to see what Chro's love came from and why Minerva is the one who truly hit him. The art is really good and... Now for the big negative: Kizashi just sucks as a villain. He is not interesting whatsoever, even here all he said was "HUMANS ARE WEAK WHY ARE YOU STAYING WITH THEM THEY ARE MAKING YOU WEAK" and god I cannot wait for his death just to not read that shit anymore, I am so tired of him. He has way too much screentime for such a shallow personality and psyche, even Hitsugi's marginally better than him (again, marginally, he's not particularly interwsting either but at least he doesn't hog up so much screentime).

7. Under Doctor: First chapter of the series and it's... Okay. To start with the positives, Haiji has some chatisma to him which I like. A genuinely good person that wants to use his killer weapons to instead save lives in the line of work that lets him do that most. It's simple, but again, I like it enough and I am willing to see how he as a character gets explored. The art is also decently good. Not mind blowing, but characters have clear and distinct designs, and it is overall quite clean in my opinion. The action presented here is not great, but it's just chapter one so I wanna see where it goes first before solidifying my judgement on it. And now the big negative: Haiji just being able to pinpoint the exact spot to heal and the causes by just looking and relieve pain with a touch takes away like, 70% of the medical aspect's intrigue. Even a famous and incredibly experienced doctor just bows to him because Haiji is just objectively better bmas a doctor by default. And no, I do not care that he still needs to do the procedures and that there is a real doctor overseeing them, Haiji just having this fantastical advantage sucks away so much possible medically related drama, and the series is about a DOCTOR, so I think that is an issue. Overall, again, it's okay, I am willing to see where it goes, but I am also far from impressed, it can easily turn into another Sakamoto Days clone if it goes in the wrong direction.

8. The Mage Next Door: Slightly better than the last couple of chapters because it is less battle shonen I guess? Man, I don't know.

9. Shinobi Undercover: Boring. That's it.

10. Gonron Egg: I do not care about the story and the charactet art is horrible. The only other thing I can say is that the second page is actually really good and the assistant needs to be freed. I got nothing else to say anymore.

The best original modulo characters are Dabura and Cross.

Maru has his moments otherwise the main trio of modulo are a complete bore like their grandparents.

Dabura would win by a landslide if there was ever a Modulo popularity poll (that doesn't include Yuji). And I really believe he's great contender to be in JJK's top 10. He already has better character writing than 99% of JJK's.

Considering Dabura trends in every single chapter he's in since the Simurian flashback. This is complete horse shit.

9. Shinobi Undercover: Boring. That's it.
I'm always thinking about how we don't have a Bankai equivalent in modern manga anymore (we had DE but I guess it's gone now).
For a while I thought that Ninpo from Shinobigoto would maybe be it. But every since the first use, where it was introduced as a pinnacle for shinobis etc, EVERY FIGHT HAS NINPO SPAM.

Ok this has nothing to do with the last chapter specifically but yes, boring.

Was going to say the negator abilities in Undead Unluck and blossom in Yozakura, but they're both gone. Aren't the swords in Kagurabachi like this though?

Outside Jump, the Divine Tools in Sentai Daishikkaku.
