Of the 3 new series, Kinato's Magic is far and away my favorite. The characters are so much better than what we have gotten from the other 2 series so far.

Thoughts on the 3 new series:
Under Doctor - This first chapter was tough.... It took me multiple times to get through it. The last manga I struggled to get through the first chapter like this was Star of Beethoven (maybe Under Doctor will take a similar trajectory). So far, Under Doctor has been extremely underwhelming. The premise is actually really good, imo, but the execution is severely lacking. The action scene just hasn't been all that impactful, and the characters are pretty bland, lifeless, and generic to this point. The 2nd chapter was okay but nothing special, and the 3rd chapter, I feel like, could have been much better had things been executed differently. I wish this manga would give us more information visually, rather than being so text-heavy. The idea of an assassin who wants to save lives, rather than take them, as a doctor, is a really good premise. It hasn't really used this strength to its benefit if you ask me. I hope we get some more interesting characters, and the author figures out how to work him trying to cure the orphan diseases into the story more frequently.
Kinato's Magic - The characters are the driving force behind this series. We got a really strong 3-person team right out of the gate. I like the world so far, and MC's ability is pretty much the same as Under Doctor's, but for me, it's being handled and executed better to this point. The Doll character introduced in chapter 2 was a pleasant addition, and the comedy is on point so far. I am really excited to see where this story goes, and I believe this is the strongest of the 3 new series.
Alien Headbutt - I agree with most others, this chapter feels incomplete. This may not end up being a bad thing, but I am used to the first chapters being a self-contained story to help get us into the world. My biggest issue with this manga so far is the lack of interesting characters. While the MC is here, hoping his family is good, I really do not care because the family was not given enough panel time to make me care.

The Bottom 3 Manga:
Gonron Egg - I was one of the few people who actually liked the start of this series, but things went downhill quickly. The characters aren't really all that interesting, and the world-building is lacking. A series that could have been a good battle shonen is going to be cut in a few weeks.
The Mage Next Door - This is still my favorite of this batch. It has had a few mediocre chapters, but overall, it's been a good read with enjoyable characters and pretty good art. The paneling could be better tho. I feel like of these 3 bottom feeders, this story has the best plot and characters. Its comedy is also done better than these other 2 series.
The Hero Girl and The Demon King - I was never able to get behind this series. I really like the idea, but the execution is really bad. There were many chapters where I felt like this series was trying to impersonate Someone Hertz and missed the mark. The other heroes being introduced so late feel like it should have happened sooner. The way they accepted the Demon King so easily was off-putting, as it was a plot point that could have led to many good interactions and hijinks. The Hero Girl is just not a compelling character, and the Demon Lord's stoic personality doesn't really add anything. Side characters are not used in an interesting way. Honestly, most characters feel like plot devices to try and drive the story instead of the relationship HG and DL doing heavy lifting.

Fantastic issue!! I liked everything (except Gonron) Kagurabachi was sensational this week. Nue was super peak as always.
Now, I'm very impressed with this new batch. I loved Kinato's 2nd chapter, it was really entertaining and fun. I love the characters. Under Doctor was also very cool, I just wish the action was a bit more readable (still, it's perfectly fine, but yeah) and Alien Headbutt's 1st chapter was also very cool. I'm looking forward the second chapter a lot. It can be very interesting.
I'm a little sad Mage Next Door is probably getting the axe because it's soooo fun...
And about everything else, it was really good.

Btw, kinda sad that it would definitely get a cover & lead color page next chaper if wasn't for the author struggling this much to keep with the serialization.

I'm definitely surprised (if I read TLs right) we're not going into a break. Not even like a CSM 'disappear off the face of the earth for two years' sort of deal but even just a month, so he can sort out a cover and get ahead of the workload so it doesn't mean the arc starts off on shaky footing like the SBAA did with the monthly covers.

Still can't complain though so long as we get more of the story and Hokazono isn't dying to do it Color pages are good and all but it's not like I read the series for them

Issue 11 chapters review (I am tired from this week so really short ones mostly. Very 7/10 week anyways):

1. Nue's Exorcist: Let me get the elephant in the room out of the way first: the challenges were skipped and everything pointa to Kota NOT wanting that. I did not like that as it gives me the feeling that evem after 130 chapters and an award won he can't do what he wants with the damn story.
Now for the many positives. My theory about Gakuro's power ups being born to deal specifically with the situations at hand seems stronger than ever: Yodama has a wide, aoe slashing attack perfect for breaking through the Fujino Barrier. Yokaku has energy assimilation and neutrilization, perfect to get out of Ishu's thread house. Yozora's steal is debatable, but it is a power that lets Gakuro fight WAY above his paygrade, precisely what he needed for Suzaku, and indeed she is the reason why they could win at all. And now an ability that is perfect to get info on Machida's whereabouts AND the passes.
Beyond that, we got a new P.O.W. and I love that this bit just keeps going, soon all of Raisei's group will be chilling with Moro in the school.
Soranaki is a genuine monster, everything he does is a test for his own inhumane research of emotions and he has alreasy been pushing Gakuro to his limits of patience. You can see it from his expressions this chapter, he has lost all the goodwill in his heart for Soranaki, unlike with Suzaku. I wonder if poor Machida will at least get a power boost by the end of all of this, maybe due to Soranaki's Command Energy now flowing into her... And finally, Natsuki pulling up like that is glorious, I love how much weight they are giving to the one and only proper healer in the series, especially combined with the hype of seeing Yokaku again! Amazing chapter once again, even with the annoying challenge skip!

2. Kagurabachi: Amazing spread and finally Samura's death! I think it was done really well personally.

3. JK Yuusha: Hilarious chapter, one of the series' funniest in my opinion!

4. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: Feels good finally having Tsurugi and Maru not fighting each other again, looking forward to Maru's plan and Mahito getting dunked on!

5. Someone Hertz: Disclaimer, chapter IS good, all the Hertz strengths are here as usual, but boy it really needs to start having a larger regular cast cause I am admittedly getting less excited about these two just flirting recently. Without the Koshien as an active plot point, the daily life needs to get shaken up. But again, still good.

6. Alien Headbutt: I liked it! It had strong energy from the get go and some really amazing shots, only complaint is the pacing's a bit ehhhh but overall posituve on it.

7. Ichi The Witch: I liked the talk between Jiki and Chro, but Kizashi opened his mouth so docking points for that.

8. Kinato's Magic: Definotely felt a bit down compared to chapter 1, but still not all too awful, the faces are still funny, the art is great, and getting this test over with immediately rather than dragging it out and killing momentum is a good decision. I just do not understand WHY the obviously sentient test magic thing would create a whole new lowest rank for Kinato when it literally saw and understood WHY he has crazy potential and good early on feats. Feels like a cheap attempt at humor.

9. Under Doctor: The better chapter of the series to be honest. It felt a BIT more like actual medical drama rather than another gimmicky battle shonen, and I do like the overall message at hand. Still, too wordy and WAY too cluttered.

10. Gonron Egg: Despite the obvious axe, as well as the usual flaws, I am still going to appreciate the show of ambition that Tanizaki had here. With a separate artist and more ironed out writing, we could have had something here I think, but alas. Still, I don't wanna put it in dead last cause it has heart.

11. The Mage Next Door: "My magic makes things either lucky or unlucky!" Who coulda guessed.

And Elusive Samurai is over, Matsui definitely could've made it last a good deal longer if he went heavy on the detail in battles like Kingdom did but I always got the feeling he wanted to focus more on the characters and important events.

It was a really fun series, with a fantastic ending to top of all (but that's to be expected of Matsui after how perfectly Ass Class concluded). Since this was a longer chapter I believe it's only 2 chapters short of filling the final volume, so I wonder what it'll do. I see three options:

- the last 2 volumes are only 8 chapters each (maybe with some bonus character sheets or illustrations or something to fill space)
- the final volume has a bonus side story (no clue what about, but I'd like a prequel chapter about little kid Tokiyuki with Takauji)
- the final volume adds in that Kendo oneshot Matsui did before Elusive Samurai started

I don't know if Matsui will be back in WSJ, but I hope he returns somewhere.

Actually, the second best seller is HunterXHunter. While Modulo is the third and Kagurabachi is the fourth. And to be honest, the author is not fit to doing that kind of covers and color pages. It has been 16 issues of no color for Kagurabachi already.

Kinato's Magic is surprisingly becoming one of the manga I look forward to reading every week. I'm starting to think this Kento Amemiya we have here's an imposter because this jump in quality is insane. That, or he picked up on all the things that worked and didn't work. Maybe that's why he was given his second chance so quickly.

Maybe Hokazono does a Kishimoto and pulls a Seitei War flashback arc now so part 2 doesn't start now but in one month, but I have my doubts.

Somehow I don't think this stuff of part1 or whatever is relevant for the magazine to make something for it. If it were big like ChainSaw Man when it was nearing its big conclusion years ago, then maybe. I think it is just a "movie shenanigan" to hype people.

Under Doctor mostly bored me, but the art is nice to look at. Wouldn't mind if this gets axed.

Issue 12:

Not voting for the first two.

Under Doctor: I wasn't going to talk about this anymore past the first 3 chapters, but this one bothered me so much I had to talk about it.

First of all, the text is still heavy and useless: "But I should have know considering you're an Under Doctor who lives in the shadows." This line shows everything wrong with this manga. It's 1. useless, as we already know from the past 3 chapters and... the manga's title that he's the Under Doctor and what he does. We even got the name dropped in a line before 2. overly long and descriptive. Why is this dude talking so much and to who? 3. Part of a panel that has another 2 big speech bubbles and huge sound effects, it drowns the image and makes you lose sight of the actual visuals you're supposed to follow.

And this isn't an one off. This happens all over the chapter. We see Chiwa shooting the bullets and them bouncing all over the place to hit the enemies. Cool, that's a nice move! But just after it, she stops, turns to the camera and explains "You know, my bullets specifically work this way" describing what we just saw.

Why? We saw it! And who is she even talking to? The whole chapter is like this. There's no intrigue in anything that happens because everything has to described directly to the reader as if I'm reading a novel. The action isn't impressive to begin with, but nothing flows because of the text. People often complain about poor writing when a manga is in a genre or style they don't like, but I would say this chapter is a better example of poor writing because the text makes the action in this action manga worse and doesn't even let me ever have to wonder about anything happening.

Alien Headbutt: The setting makes no sense at all. How is a whole island offline and isolated for three whole months and no one knows about it, even though there are boats still going there? After making a big deal about how much the main character loves his family, it's hard to believe he didn't talk with anyone in 3 months or even checked news or anything about the island. And apparently all of Japan is like that, no one ever wondered what happened to that island. What about the people that bring food and other items? Government workers?

The art is still cool, but kinda shaky. The messy story and setting just aren't doing it for me and keep giving Dear Anemone vibes even more.

1. Elusive Samurai: Third series, third hit and third excellent ending for Matsui. This whole manga was about ambiguity and how these larger-than-life historical figures are more than just warriors and lords and to the end, Matsui did a great job at showcasing how they also had their silly side, their own lives and personal worries.

Warring in hell is exactly what a lot of the huge figures in history would do and this kind of scene reminded me Kenshin's Shishio, but for a main Shonen Jump hero. It's insane that he made this work, but it did.

2. Nue's Exorcist: Already complained about the rushing last week, so I'll accept it for what it is. Soranaki planning a cliche plan just to mock Gakuro is hilarious and Gakuro straight up ruining it before it even started is even better. Soranaki is a fun mad scientist, but unlike most characters of this type it seems like he won't get to play as much as he wants; finally a keikaku doori villain gets clowned, thanks Kawae.

3. Kinato: Ok, so I'll take it that Kinato will be "Kiyoshi, but if it was actually funny" because the gags, the pacing and the over the top characters were all hilarious and joyful. After a boring second chapter, this kept me entertained the whole time with gags landing in every single page. The new mentor is both cool and fun, the Knight in Search for Princesses is a cool concept for a new party member and seeing how the story is moving and actually adventuring instead of being stuck somewhere, I hope some authors take notes! This is the winner of the batch.

4. Hima-ten: This chapter setups a ton of storylines for the next "year" of the story. We get Kanna's increased popularity, Honoka starting studying sessions with Tenichi (basically replacing the off-school time from Himari), the school trip and Himari's scandal. Ono did a great job at introducing all this naturally and without overwhelming the reader.

5. Roboco: I can relate to being annoyed by a friend suddenly acting like that.
