Moderator Notice:

WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP THREAD RULES​

#1. No fights or personal insults.
#2. No bait or troll comments with the intention of being annoying or starting serious heated discussions, if i notice it's a continuous behavior, i will warn the user or delete the comment.

#4. Don't bring politics or off-topic stuff to the thread, this is about Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and mangas, so keep any conversation about topics that aren't related about anime & manga outside the thread.
#5. Don't post news about series from other magazine or publishers in the WSJ thread, post in the series own thread, but it's fine if you're mentioning other series or magazine to express a opinion or reflection about Shonen Jump.
#6. Any tweet, specially japanese, about news, update or some interesting thing about the magazine or series has to come with a text of what that tweet means and also be on topic, if not it's going to be either deleted or i will edit the post.
#7. Refrain from self advertising or advertising Youtubers videos in the comments.
#8. Constant fanart posts just for the sake of praising a favorite series is prohibited, this rule doesn't apply for official art by Jump artists posted on social media, they're fine to post.
#9. Don't discuss or hype chapter spoilers before Sunday release, only comment if is related to a series surviving status and do it only inside the spoiler tag.
#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

And after 5 years we say goodbye to The Elusive Samurai, it was a great run! We also say goodbye to Otr of the Flame & Harukaze Mound! And say Welcome to Under Doctor, Kinato's Magic & Alien Headbutt, good luck to the 3!

And we also got some movements, it maybe temporary until Hunter x Hunter returns but for now Nue's Exorcist finally reached the 1st tier!!! And Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo & Someone Hertz already reached 2nd tier!

For the curious ones, the first version of the signature where The Elusive Samurai was included in early 2021:

I'm might get backlash for this but Shimabukuro has to have one of the most ugly art styles in current Jump

I heavily disagree with the "art style" part because he can draw fantastic monsters/creatures, badass characters and beautiful spread pages, but the mc of Build King was indeed pretty ugly and not charismatic, one of the reasons the series flopped hard lol

I don't read any of his series but every time I see a one shot color page of his I cringe and pray he doesn't return

Well, it makes sense because his one shots are all gag series and he's known for always going with pretty ugly main characters in his gag series, look at Seikimatsu Leader-den Takeshi:

He's ugly as fuck but the series was a instant big hit alongside One Piece in 1997, it started as a gag series and became a battle shounen too, this is where Shima art shines, Toriko has one of the best action spread pages on modern Shonen Jump, the man knows how to draw fights like few in the magazine but gag is like in his core as a artist.

Not saying he has no talent (he's at least somewhat funny since he's had 2? successful series) but yeah, I just find all his characters I've seen extremely off putting. I mean, Roboco and Chojo to a degree are gag and they look fine so I just think he draws really ugly characters lmao

Sorry to bother, but I am very invested in Kinato’s magic and to a lesser degree the other series of this batch. What’s the word in JP online?

I mean, outside the animals like you mentioned....yeah unfortunately. I don't find really any of those character designs to be pleasant on the eyes

Edit: MAYBE the girl is fine, nothing crazy but not ugly really

lol you praising exactly the type of the character which is a general consensus that is the weakest point of Shimabukuro but don't like the ones which are his strongest?

I meant relevant to the whole Toriko's author drawings and whatnot that clearly shows to have both those that like it and those that don't and nothing anyone says could convince everyone to agree.

i tell c and Nine Dragon's Ball Parade were that long ago, huh... still a bit of a shame that i tell c wasn't better than it, could've been a cool crime thriller.

Too bad the author failed to deliver on that promise.

No love for Build King. The characters were significantly better looking than Toriko.

To be fair, you could spin that to be most of the forum. People post reviews of the newest chapters saying what they liked and disliked. Odds are they're not gonna change anybody's opinion.

Unless the topic becomes toxic/negative, I think discussing art is much better than the old days of dooming Nue or Kagurabachi lol

No problem, hmm, it's a bit complicated, Kinato for example it depends the place you read the opinions, in some is positive and in others not so much but for example on Jump Matome where the comments are more like "don't like or its boring" this chapter 3 actually had many saying that even if they not like much they think is the one who going to be popular out of the trio, Jump Plus views are pretty decent and seems like Kaminagi is getting some good attention online:



So i think Kinato does have a chance of succeeding, is nothing sure of course.

Under Doctor is more or less like here in the thread, first chapter got a lot of positive reviews, the next chapters more lukewarm reactions, also the complain about the series not being Shonen Jump version of ER lol but isn't like people hate or anything

Alien Headbutt still liked with this second chapter despite some things already being pointed out but at least on Matome readers are already very aware of the quite underwhelming Jump Plus views, so some are already not confident about it even if they enjoy it

Btw, i'm quite surprised and confused with the negative comments about Kinato on Matome being mostly focused in the comedy saying is pretty bad, it's one of the most praised things i see online from the west side lol

A large indicator I think if the series has legs is Kinato being away from the other two now. Asta, for example, doesn't need Yuno or Noelle to make the series fun. So far, Kinato (not necessarily to me but def others) feel that way. So even if he's not the most interesting, if Amemiya can make the others around him fun, then that's a good sign
