Sure Lucy was in Taurus form, however, considering that is not her strongest Spirit she is using it from, I doubt it would play any major effort used in that attack, and considering she is capable of taking hits from Merc even in her Aquarius dress doesn’t put Taurus form in that same ballpark per say.
Yes, considering that there were showings of dragons damaged by conventional weapons such as swords and spears at the end of the Dragon King Festival.
That is the key right there, mid-fight where he was having an episode that made him all but useless, but before hand while unable to harm him with lightning, would still be able to harm him with physical attacks like he did with Ogra but Wahl no sold his physical strikes. He won with Red Lightning after curing himself and was amped by the damage done to him.
- Now this is to take into account a what if scenario, say Ichiya didn’t show up and it was Laxus that arrived against the Proxy, he would likely have won with Red Lightning, however it would give Wahl the knowledge to prepare for Laxus if they fought again for real with his adaptation.
Not saying Laxus isn’t powerful, it is a matter of taking into account where Irene and August and “maybe” Larcade are compared to Brandish’s aid against a DG.
Taurus isn't Lucy's most powerful form, but it grants her the greatest amount of physical strength. And it clearly made a difference, as Brandish was overjoyed to see Lucy using this form.
Therefore, producing the necessary physical strength to control Mercphobia's body required the combined power of Lucy and Brandish. Most of the damage inflicted on him resulted from his body being struck by the immense lacrima filled with Dragon Slayer magic, which, incidentally, contained Mercphobia's magical power; destroying it weakened him.
Your argument about Laxus isn't as relevant because the character's main power is his magic; physical attributes are secondary. The fact that Laxus relies solely on physical attributes and is ill during his fight against Wahl demonstrates the immense power difference between the two characters.
Minimizing this goes against the manga's narrative, since Laxus, with his magic, almost seriously injured Ajeel, requiring August's intervention.
I think you're disregarding the "giant Lacrima with immense magical power" factor. Without the context in which Brandish and Lucy were involved, any Dragon God would be easily defeating Irene and August.
But I agree that, under those circumstances, those two Spriggans would certainly handle Mercphobia, since the lacrima was exposed, an obvious and exploitable weakness.
I think Irene and August are still relevant in terms of power, but I believe Laxus has already surpassed them.
Gildarts is still the strongest Guildmember bar Natsu. That will never change and GS is~Gildarts hence above Erza/Laxus.And August/Irene are stronger as Gildarts as per canon
Yes but Timestop still fuck up both
Gratzs for extreme-diffing the weakest SP12 as per Hiro words

August =
Irene >
Larcade, Dimaria, God Serena (it’s unclear if these are in any particular order) ~ and at the bottom of the list is Wahl
The argument about Gildarts is irrelevant for two reasons:
1 - Gildarts currently has no feats to give us a basis for his power progression;
2 - It's irrelevant whether he progressed or not, since the God Serena power comparison only extends to the power level Gildarts demonstrated in Alvarez. Any evolution of Gildarts after Alvarez only means that he is far superior to God Serena.
Yes, I know Wahl is the weakest among the Spriggans, but Laxus demonstrated at the beginning of the Alvarez arc that he could easily handle Ajeel, requiring August's intervention to rescue the sand mage.
So Laxus from the Alvarez arc is comfortably above most of the Spriggans.
When we compare the 100YQ villains with spriggans we always have to point which spriggans. Mashima is indeed avoiding powercreep, is not an absolute rule but we have to check who is under this rule. Most spriggans are garbage, the 100YQ villains who cant' surpass them are just trashier. When we talk about the basic spriggan level, will Calamity Bloods surpass them ? I guess that the answer is yes, above regular spriggan level seems to be a safe take taking into account that they are endgame villains and stronger versions of the eclipse dragons.
The real comparison is with the Gildarts, BDSK, God Serena level. Don't think the stone dragon will surpass this level for example. Not every calamity has to reach this level. In basically every group the power level of the members varies a lot, the stronger members probably will reach that level, maybe even surpass it, but couldn't say if most members or just few. The safest guess to reach or surpass that level as of now is Motherglare.
Now about August and Irene level. I have an opinion about Irene matchup with people with dragon powers, but this exact power level seems harder to reach and i wouldn't put my hand on fire for any of the calamities to reach this level even if i think that Motherglare can beat Irene via matchup.
In defense of Lucy's power level, I think being defeated by Lucy, Wendy, and Mercphobia (a dragon) is much better than being defeated by Gray and Juvia, who don't even possess Dragon Slayer magic. In fact, being countered by Juvia is regrettable, considering she was exalting Aquarius (an outdated spirit in power, since Lucy was much weaker in the past) from 300 arcs ago in her fight against Gate.
Earth Build, compared to his dragon companions, benefits from being defeated by the girls, as it will require a Dragon God amplified by Wendy's enchantments and Lucy's power to be defeated.
Better than that would only be defeat by Erza or Laxus.
