#4. Don't bring politics or off-topic stuff to the thread, this is about Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and mangas, so keep any conversation about topics that aren't related about anime & manga outside the thread.
#5. Don't post news about series from other magazine or publishers in the WSJ thread, post in the series own thread, but it's fine if you're mentioning other series or magazine to express a opinion or reflection about Shonen Jump.

#10. Regarding rule #9, an exception will be made for when we have new series, in this case, spoilers will be allowed only for the first 3 chapters of a new series for the users who are interested in knowing informations and details about the new series, these spoilers will obviously be kept under tags to protect anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled, so don't worry about it.

I know the likelihood of this is pretty much impossible especially with the magazine not being overly competitive rn but I'm walking through a thought experiment:

Say the magazine WAS competitive and pretty full. We just had a new round and majority are doing quite well in survey results. Problem is, something has to give and nothing is ending soon. Does Jump axe a series that hasn't sold it's volume 1 yet and has the potential to break out or does it axe a series like Kill Blue (modest seller, okay rankings but it's hit its ceiling)?

This is presuming, of course, 1) There is no series that is legitimately wrapping up, 2) There's not enough filler/buffer to create a new round. Can't imagine Jump just washes their hands and says "We're good to have no new rounds for a bit" but is it worth serializing a, most likely new axeable series by removing a modestly popular series? I've always wondered this especially on years where we get lots of series that stick around like 2020 or 2024
If they have literally nothing to end and all new series they recently started are doing well, they would probably force something in the lower end of the magazine to wrap it up, but this is the kind of situation that is really rare to happen, it wasn't even the case with Kill Blue since there was stuff to end in its place, but like said is pretty rare because there's always something that flops, either from the last round or the current round going on which is how we get these 12 ~ 15 chapters cancelation.

Like I said, I know it's pretty much a very once in a blue moon situation. When the magazine was more competitive maybe it happened more, but I was not following during those times lol. I've just always been curious and know that didn't happen with Kill Blue or Chojo really which is why the decision was... interesting to say the least

I'm not arguing it was unfair or anything though. Just bringing up that later batches dropped the bar enough he would have a better shot.

He's easily the axed author they should be working to bring back as fast as possible considering the sales and reception. No offense to him, but seeing Amemiya coming back first instead was hilarious. If Omusuke Kobayashi also shows up before Hayashi, lol.
Amemiya is obviously very skilled. His art is one of the best and most consistent amongst all the newbies

As expected, lower than expected results specially for Nue, thank God Oricon actually put Nue at 8k instead of 7k from Shoseki, now it's only 2k of difference:

Akane-banashi #16 (18,196) - 3 Days
Akane-banashi #21 (17,582) - 3 Days

Nue's Exorcist #10 (10,160) - 3 Days
Nue's Exorcist #14 (8,035) - 3 Days

Hopefully 2nd week will recover just fine 🙏

2nd week had a huge bounce back for everyone, it's probably just stock/delivery issues for week 1
Also also, reminder of the circulation increase due to Natsuki and that we are seeing something similar AGAIN, we are good lmao

Am I the only one noticing a general decline in physical sales? (Setting aside the hype around Modulo and a few others)
The fact that Nue is starting to sell as Kiyoshi, and that Akane Banashi is pulling in almost the same numbers as Shinobi...

Could it be that Shueisha itself has lowered its standards regarding sales thresholds to keep a series alive?

This week was a unnusual lower one for many series due to distribution stuff, Nue isn't selling like Kiyoshi, this is just 3 days in a bad week.

But about your point, this is something that has been discussed since forever, physical sales has been in a noticeable decline for the entire manga industry since 2020 mainly because of the constant shift to digital through the years.

Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 20: Natsu to Mushikago
Looks pretty cool so far, really hope we finally have a new successful sport series and even better if its a basket one 🙏

Too bad the series didn't took off, it's a pretty decent and cute series, personally i feel like Someone Hertz success totally killed any chances since they're similar type of comedy and romance series, i hope the author comeback in the future 👍

Never mind, i found out Shoseki do not track Amazon sales, that's why Nue backlog doesn't appear despite performing so well.
