I’d say it’s hard to accept. I’m not going to pretend my opinion is the objective end all be all (kinato certainly proves that 😭 and while I like Nue, I’m still confused how it became popular outside of the art), but under doctor is not really a good series right now imo.The medical stuff is disappointing as it feels more like paper thin clothing tacked on then actually somewhat edu-taining like Dr. Stone or even food wars. It’s a battle manga with a doctor paste on. The characters and story have not really stood out to me as unique or great storytelling (again subjective). The art was the strongest thing in the series but it’s been looking a little strange proportion and design wise. The choreography isn’t saving it like sakamoto days.
It feels like a poor mans sakamoto days without the choreography and humor (although with a bit more ethos).
You complain about the lack of medical elements in Under Doctor, just like I complain about the lack of horror in Roku.

Imagine saying that as a Kiyoshi fan...
Kyoshi is easy to finish; you just have to defeat the remaining enemies. The author eliminated almost 80% of the story in the Black Parade arc.

Imagine saying that as a Kiyoshi fan...
I’m a Kiyoshi fan and I’m proud of it. So what? (Oh true, only Kagurabachi readers and Kiyoshi hater are well accepted in the community)

Btw, i read it, enjoy the story, look for the references Usui always hides in the manga (he put once in the volume 8 cover too) and color pages, and have fun: actually have fun.
That last part seems to be missing from a lot of the new generation of readers.
Instead of enjoying the series, you’re all busy chasing trends to be popular online, often without even really reading the story.

About UNDER DOCTOR:
After 13 chapters, most people are enjoying it because it’s different!
Tanimoto literally has a medical supervisor, Yasushiko Tomita, that working with him to shape how he explains and approaches the story.. especially when it comes to describing the body and various diseases.

That scene everyone hated so much, where Shuli starts talking again? "Ohh no, it has no sense.."
If you had done even a bit of research (just a bit), you’d know it’s actually possible in real life... AND spoiler: it already appeared in another piece of fiction: The Boys, with Kimiko Miyashiro, played by Karen Fukuhara.
Same concept! (and it's a real stress disease)

Last personal thing:
There are already enough larpers on the internet (Melons, Skyzaid, Salto (with L), Logan Paul, etc...) let them badmouth a manga without even reading it, we don't need another villain to take down 🖖

This was hard to rank because none of the chapters really impressed me this week. They weren't bad, just unremarkable.

Votes:
1) OP
2) Alien
3) WW
4) Dr
5) Roku

OP: So we're facing the big boss now? I would say that escalated quickly, but it has been 30 years. Still feels like kind of a jump considering barely anybody even knew this guy existed.

Alien: I'm surprised they can show a minor smoking... oh, wait, I guess he's just old enough? I liked their talk, it's a pretty original way to infodump, and we're still keeping some of the mystery too. The rest of the chapter was decent, though I am worried about the other guy now since apparently most people don't stay sane.

WW: I'm impressed he's still standing. This explains why the other guy didn't register as a warlock.

Dr: Not a bad chapter, but "Over fingers" has to be just about the lamest attack name I've heard.

Roku: It took me a while to find the dog in that first picture. And I could only identify two of the gelatins... wait, make that three, apparently Roku was just an abbreviation (I thought that was his family name). Anyway, Johan being a decent leader makes sense, but people just randomly throwing thelselves at his feet was too ridiculous for my taste.

Shinobi: That's four. Jury's still out on the fifth, though he'll probably spend some time in hospital/jail first.

Destroyerz:
- So what happened to Valaris II?
- "Shinkai is a Japanese name with a beautiful and evocative meaning, translating to 'deep sea.' It is a gender-neutral name, though it is more commonly used for boys. The name carries a sense of mystery, depth, and tranquility, reflecting the vast and unexplored depths of the ocean." A school with hidden depths sounds fitting, I suppose.
- For someone who wants to focus on the lecture, he sure isn't focussing on the lecture.
- Is her constantly hurting herself supposed to be funny?
- Wait, so there's a third main character? Seems like overkill. Or is the hero just gonna be this menacing presence in the background? (Or not-menacing, we literally know nothing about the guy.)
- I take it I was expected to be shocked by their betrayal, but I was actually more surprised they acknowledged her at all after the way she'd been portrayed.
- We're going to run out of bathrooms
real fast at this rate.

Sadly, this did not work for me. No surprise there, since Gintama never worked for me either. There were a few jokes that almost made me smile, but most of it left me either indifferent or annoyed.
It's a shame, because I did enjoy Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits (and I loved Demon Lord Exchange!!, if we're looking for series in the same genre).

BB: An entire chapter about the brother of a side character? This isn't planning to end this year, is it?

Kiyoshi: Um, no? If you defeat him as he is now, he can still return to that same power level again. Just because he can't get stronger doesn't mean his regeneration is gone.

Drawn: I forgot to mention the similarities to Haikyu. The solution here seems to be a bit more two-sided, but the story beats are all the same. Also, is it just me or are some of the characters acting weirdly inconsistent? The teammates called going to nationals their new mission, but then it turns out they've been training for it for years. Kiri say everyone likes social media, but then in the next panel she completely dismisses it (this one could be a translation error, I guess). It makes it feel like the author can't keep track of their own story and it's not a good look.

KGB: I'm confused.

Ichi: A witch who's in cahoots with the world-destroyer majik is number 1310 on your wanted list? How bad are you at your job if there are 1309 people more dangerous than that running around? I like the new twists, but I don't like how petty everyone is acting.

Gary-Stu's Magic: How did this kid grow such a massive ego in just a few minutes? His efforts made no difference whatsoever, but he's acting like he single-handedly saved humanity. And both his teammates and the enemy are applauding him, too, because he's so very special and so very amazing and definitely not a humble soft-spoken kid with support powers, who would want to read about that? 🙄

Ichi the Witch
and what is World-haters favourite doughnut? so many questions.
I don't think he eats. All of the donuts were on her side of the table. Poor guy was just sitting there like "Can I leave already?"

Kill Blue had a closed ending; the author concluded everything in the story. How could there be a sequel?
The author concluded nothing at all. The situation in the last chapter was the same as in the first. They could very easily send him to another school and do the whole thing over again.

Nah, there are plenty of people here who like Kiyoshi and Shinobi. But you don't need to hate these series to admit that they are treated very well by the magazine.

Dragon Quest, eh? Quite an oldie they went for this time.

Nue's is just a battle manga with boobs... why should it be treated better than Under Doctor?
Oh true.. it has boobs.

But let’s not forget that, after 14 volumes, there’s still not a single rumor about an anime adaptation of Nue’s Exorcist (and it’s been overtaken by Kill Blue, Chojo Policeman, Akane Banashi (with the hardest category in the scene, the Rakugo), Kagurabachi and maybe even Ichi the Witch if things keep going this way)

If we stop provoking people with opinions that clearly come out of nowhere without having read a single chapter, you’ll be doing everyone a favor.
You clearly have a bias toward certain series over others, which undermines your critical thinking, you can't be taken seriously

(I apologize to the mods for this message, but I just couldn't take it anymore)
@kiyoshibro
Pretty insulting and undeserved. I’ve never shitted on anyone else’s opinion and have been respectful, so I don’t get where your hostility is coming from. Even in the post you obnoxiously quote replied, I noted that I had a bias. But guess what? You have biases too. We all do. I don’t know why that makes you feel superior. This is supposed to be a place where we discuss our opinions on series and communicate and understand from each other. It’s not provocation; it’s me expressing my thoughts on UD and maybe someone comes in and provides a prospective that changes my opinion. A little kindness and good faith goes a long way

I read every chapter of every Shonen jump series since it’s been translated officially and read most of the successful older series if they have a full translation. I’ve read all of under doctor, so your analysis skills and haughty judgement are completely wrong.

I feel UD has a lot of flaws that would prevent it from surviving its sister series that are new. I’d welcome someone address my criticisms and share why they like it.

As for Nue… your criticism is actually what you’re accusing me of. It appears cultural for why the Japanese audience has supported it and international has been less enthused. The art is undeniably fantastic and I can recognize moments why it’s fun (my guess is gakuro is a relatable MC to the JP audience and has a desirable fantasy self insert that the JP audience enjoys). I just think there are struggles with the pacing, direction (it’s tough to see what’s happening but I haven’t read it physical yet.), and certain storyline decisions but maybe that weirdness is what makes it unique and cool to the JP audience.

Let’s try to be more respectful and understanding in here. P.S. I’m a big Kiyoshi fan and I’m glad you’re defending it.

Yeah that claim is wild, considering like we have the weekly chapter rankings each week, and Kiyoshi often ranks on the upper half. I'd argue there's a disproportionate amount of Kiyoshi fans here compared to other spaces.

Issue #21 Votes

1. Kagurabachi #119
Takeru Hokazono has the great ability to make unknown characters very interesting during one fight while giving lore about the world. Airu Mikaboshi & Hiroto Soga are perfect examples with both having interesting abilities and roles for the Irishima Talk. Also cool moment for Mashiro, staying cool with a hole in his chest :zomg Back to Hiroto, the Kurotsuchi is kinda basic but also extremly cool at the same time. Despite the lack of build up for Hiroto and Airu their fight is perfectly executed so far! I got no complains! + 10/10 final page
2. One Piece #1180
This chapter would have gotten my nr. 1 if Oda wasn't such a coward lmao. Just kill these random giants off! Anyway. As of now Imu feels very Sukuna-coded from Power & Aura (he doesn't touch Sukuna's aura like at all but it feels like oda is trying lmao). Also I know that Imu is like Top 1 of the verse rn but omg please give us a 1 month timeskip for training or something. Zoro and Sanji both feel very weak and (I'd think?) Zoro soon has to battle Mihawk! Overall cool chapter with classic Oda-flaws.
3. Kinato's Magic #12
Jien is sexy as fuck
4. Ichi The Witch #79
Great reintroduction for Minataka, his dynamic with Desscaras is already hillarous. He wants to win the discussion and the idgaf-war both at the same time so bad. Also fantastic set-up for this arc with the new Witch.. she is so pretty. She looks like shes out of Act-Age and not Ichi I love it.
5. Hima-Ten! #87
The word finally sums up this chapter pretty good I think.

NEW SERIES IMPRESSIONS
Brave Destroyers Chapter 1

Im 50/50 on it, I didn't care for the first half like at all. I just couldn't get a feel for the characters and setting however that changed for the second half. While I still don't got a feeling for the main duo the fighting was entertaining. Some gags work for me while othersare like kinda whatever. I think it could be similar to Witch Watch for me where I think the first couple of volumes are fun but eventually will get sick of the humor. But we will see! 6/10
Drawn to the Fire Chapter 2
Please survive! The chapter feels very confident if that makes sense. Like the author has a plan and it already feels 100x more structured than Embers. Like ima keep my expectations low with Sports series and survival but I will be praying. Also very fun Color Page.
Roku's House of Oddities Chapter 3
Finally a chapter that focuses more on one of the Spirits. I hope we get more of those for every single one. It was fun. I don't got much to say.

I don’t think there’s anywhere else on the internet where people talk about Kiyoshi as much as they do here lol.

I need to get back to reading it, I stopped near the beginning and have no idea how it’s doing now. I honestly didn’t think it would survive in the magazine.

It doesn’t make sense why it’s got haters. I adore it; the only problem is I worry if this is a mashle length series (under 20 Vols), which would be a disappointing reader investment (I like long series with big worlds) as you fall in love with series and worry it’ll end soon. It also has the OPM problem of worrying if the author will run out of ways to sideline the hero lest we deal with power scaling issues. It’s in my top 3 series in jump right now though and I hope the author has ways to extend the series naturally

It has haters because its the lowest seller of the magazine, and yet its lasted for almost 2 years now. Thats pretty much it. I think a good bit of it is that people expected it to die, and when it didn't, they started wishing it would. And so thats when the whole "nepo" talk started getting thrown around. (Ofc I do get discussing it in context of why it has been able to live versus other similar series, but thats a whole discussion that we are sorta in the dark about).
But a lot of it is people angry that its lived for this long (with as much promo as its gotten), while other series have died.

Because it has the worst sales of the “safe” series and some people want it cancelled to make space for another 2k flop. It also does surprisingly well in the ToC for a 10k seller, leading people to believe its protected by the editors. Its digital sale rankings are also awful relative to other Jump manga.

But the 10k Kiyoshi line is effectively the current standard for Jump. Its obviously not gonna get cancelled.
